I could see TT replaced with their rumored mid-engined R4 car...

TT is a bit odd. It looks like it should be a sports car, but it isn't. It is a FWD/AWD 2+2 that is relatively small. And it is pricey enough to be in the range with real sports cars, like Boxster and Cayman, which are better performers, and arguably better looking.

If they were to go with a Lotus Europa/Evora mid-engined competitor, as the R4 might really be, that might be a good evolution change for the TT segment.

The A5 coupe and convertible (A4 convertible -> A5 convertible) are bigger cars, more in line with G37, IS350, and 3-series, which now ALL are coupe/convertible/sedan triplets, except IS350, which has no coupe yet. (counting the A4 with the A5, same platform now.)

I never have liked the TT.

Isn't there a convertible A5/S5 coming out??

I can't see much future for the TT if that occurs.

The A5/S5 convertible is replacing the A4/S4 convertible. After 08.5 there will only be the A5/S5 cab.

All the TT is, is a more expensive Miata. We used to sell a ton of the old body style TTs. The new ones are to big, and way to expensive to really sell. I was told they already slowed production of the TTs due to luke warm sales in Europe.

As far as an R4, right now with the state of the economy and the shape VW/Audi is in I wouldn't be banking on one. THis especially since Porsche is now the controlling interest in VAG and they don't want competition againist themselves.

I dunno...

I keep hearing rumors of the R4 resurfacing, even with Porsche taking over.

I am not sure if it will be a two-seater, transverse mid-engine... Like a bigger Elise/Exige, or if they will try to go with a 2+2 with transverse mid-engine, like the Europa/Evora. It will probably go down-market, below the base Boxster and Cayman, anyway.

It is possible that Porsche will kibosh the deal, but they know that VAG is made up of several brands in conglomeration, and some of the models overlap a bit, between brands. Like R8 and Gallardo.

That's the same line as the S4, S6, S8, etc. right? So there is a premium over a normal one. That being said, hello, M3 convertible anyone?

I do like what looks to be the light blue contrast stitching..

At that price, hello 2009 Porsche Boxster/Cayman. From what I recall, the 2009 got a nice performance bump, and interior/exterior updates, correct?

For a fairly loaded Boxster S with the suggested Luxury configuration (includes navigation, chrono package plus, Porsche Active Suspension Management system, 18" wheels, leather, etc..) the MSRP is $63K. If it was my money, I would rather have that Porsche than the glorified Audi TT convertible.

I searched, and yes, there is a bump in power:

Debuting at the L.A. Auto show are the mildly-revised 2009 Porsche Boxster and Cayman models. Like the 2009 911, the Cayman’s and Boxster’s changes are hard to spot; even for some enthusiasts. The 2009 tweaks include new head lamps, tail lamps, rear diffuser and some minor cosmetic changes in the cabin.

Both cars receive a power boost in both their standard and optional engines. The Cayman now creates the most out of the duo to help justify its price premium over the Boxster. The 2.9-liter F-6 is standard in both cars and now makes 265 hp in the Cayman and 255 in the Boxster. The Cayman S and Boxster S, equipped with the 3.4-liter F-6, now produce 320 and 310 hp, respectfully.

Both cars will now take advantage of Porsche’s dual-clutch PDK transmission that was just released in the 2009 911. The PDK is able to shift so quick, acceleration times with the PDK are faster than that of the manual-equipped cars.

In Germany, this was referred to as a "Doctor's Wifes' Car." So the fact that it is expensive and not especially fast is good.

Apparently, Audi didn't get the memo about the current status of the global economy.

.

audi didnt get the memo on a lot of things..

for instance.. its 2009 and they should consider updating their engines to have power that can at least compete with kia.

they DID get the memo on inflation however and have beat the curve by asking 2012 prices in 2009.

They also dont seem to understand that they are one of the last manufacturers (that isn't begging for a bailout right now) that doesn't offer INTEGRATED navigation instead of an ugly poorly designed navigation system radio.

Honestly, if audis werent damn attractive cars, I'd say they belong on the failboat with kia dodge saab and volvo.

Considering the 2.0T is updated(as of the 09 A4), the 3.2L is updated(as of the 08 A5), there is a new 3.0 supercharged motor coming in this month or next and the only old motors are the 4.2L (which is only going to be left in the A8 and the Q7), the W12 (which isn't a large seller, and the 5.2 V10 (which in only in two models now and the R8 which is also a low production car) what more do they need to update? The base motor is mostly redesigned and still 200hp getting 25mpg in mixed driving.

No comment. I've been saying they are asking to much for awhile. It's their master plan to make Audi more exclusive like BMW and MB.

They also dont seem to understand that they are one of the last manufacturers (that isn't begging for a bailout right now) that doesn't offer INTEGRATED navigation instead of an ugly poorly designed navigation system radio.

They only use nav plus in the low line cars. The A6, A8, and Q7 all have the nav on MMI. Also on the 09+ A4 and the A5 they too have MMI screens. The only two cars that still use the nav plus system are the TT and the A3.

Honestly, if audis werent damn attractive cars, I'd say they belong on the failboat with kia dodge saab and volvo.

Audi being part of VW and VW pretty much being bought out by Porsche isn't exactly a good sign. For a long time, VW was/is partially owned by the German governemt. So presently they aren't in a very good position either.

well.. considering I can get an LGT with ~250hp from a 2.5L for less than $35k out the door yet I cant get an A/S/RS4 out the door for less than 40 with that kind of power..I'd consider them in dire need of update.

They're competing in the "elite" class of cars with the "average" class of horsepower.

For $40k I can pick up a sorta loaded A4 with yawn performance or I can pick up an Is350 or a G37 thats fully loaded (or darn near it) for the same price with decent performance.
