NSFW
I thought about doing it this way when I made the XO2 FMIC then I thought about what would happen if the body flex when you went into a driveway at a angle hit a big bump on one side. So then I gave up the foglights and just trimed the beam. Also after looking at the install pictures are you worried adout the rubber hose coming off the IC getting cut by the sharp metal at the bends? What are you doing to keep the hose from being cut as the car bounces and moves? The metal was rounded off everywhere, so I'm not real worried. I kinda wonder how the rubber will hold up after 10 years, but only time will tell.
SBT
I've got a WBR and other than relocating the overflow tank, I don't think there's any cutting required for the bumper beam. Could be wrong on this, but that's my recollection of Dave's notes on the install. But, BOT - great write-up, pics were a great add and hopefully, you'll see some significant additional headroom out of your FMIC once you get it tuned. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -

jamal
yeah that's how it works for most of them. Perrin has a nice IC support that bolts to the mounts for the beam. Aps does too, with little tabs that bolt up to retain the stock bumper clips. Also they both fit very well. I refuse to install another avo kit ever again. lucas569
i think i might just buy the fmic kit that all the nasioc guys are using, i heard nothing but good things about it! http://xs-power.com/subaru-intercooler-kits-3.htm im sure it wont take alot of modding to make it fit the LGT. jamal
really? I've heard nothing but bad things about xspower. Then trying to mod an impreza kit to fit a legacy sounds like even more fun than installing the avo kit.
lucas569
i dont know if its that one or the ssac (maybe theyre the same?) but i havent read anything bad about it? theres almost 200 pages of happy customers on there, and according to itsme the wrx kit was the basis for the xo2 kit and that not alot of modding was done to make it fit the LGT. i dont see a single kit that DOESNT need modding, wish there was one! NSFW
If you want to take that route, consider asking them if they're going to update that kit to fit the 08. If they do, that might be easier to adapt.

No I didn't. I modded a XO2 racing WRX FMIC not the one you linked to. It is alot earier to modd a counter-clockwise setup not that setup. It will be a PITA with the kit you are linked to. Find a counter clockwise setup and mod that. Then you can use this link to help you. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43950&highlight=diy+fmic. Why not just get the XO2 racing kit? NSFW
Unclemat, the part number on the battery is 51R-60. Google has a bunch of hits for it. http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z151/Legacy_NSFW/FMIC%20Install%20Day/FMIC2113.jpg As I said, the tie-down is still a bit long. I was able to move bottom attachment point about half as far in as I wanted, there's a hole there to hook it into. It's held down snug enough but I'm still wondering how to get it secured a little better. And, on a slightly related note, I put on a Perrin BPV this weekend: http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z151/Legacy_NSFW/FMIC%20Install%20Day/FMIC2114.jpg Had to get the recirculation hose from an auto parts shop. The OD of the outlet on the Perrin is about 4mm larger than the OD of the outlet on the stock part. You can almost fit the stock BPV outlet inside the Perrin outlet. Fortunately a local auto parts place was able to find a 90-degree hose that fits well enough.

NSFW
The key thing is how much space there is between the ends of the frame rails (where the bumper attaches) and the sides of the fog light housings. PhilT
If you slice a length of the small vacuum hose, then put that along the metal edges it will protect the IC hose better. Double Award Winning Legacy GT Wagon
atc5
If you slice a length of the small vacuum hose, then put that along the metal edges it will protect the IC hose better. x2. That's what I did. Very simple and effective solution. Also, this install pictorial is riddled w/ pain in the ass efforts that the OP made to install this FMIC. There are many things that were unnecessarily done during this install (as eluded by the notes about not reading the directions).

There are many things that were unnecessarily done during this install (as eluded by the notes about not reading the directions). I didn't want to put tubing on those edges because space is so tight, so I just kinda rounded them. I'll get in there and see if anything is chafing later this summer. You should elaborate on all the extra/un-necessary stuff I did. Half the point of this thread was to make it easier for other people to install this kit... Hopefully other people can learn from my mistakes.
Guest
I helped atc5 install the fmic. We didn't have to notch the radiator support like you did. Did you forget to use the spacer at the top bracket? (beneath the hood latch). Also cutting the tab supporting the mud guard on the driver's side is unnecessary - just bend it some so it doesn't cut into the hose. And dremelling/drilling holes in the beam wasn't necessary either (we had to use thinner bolts for that though).
