Gas Prices...what's your breaking point?

I currently drive a Jeep Cherokee as my dd, probably around 16-17 average. It's kinda funny because the Jeep forums I frequent have numerous threads about this same subject. The one thought that seems to stay constant is that no matter what we drive it seems to be the notion that you have to pay to play. It's the high price of fuel that has bought me back here, because now I am considering a Legacy 2.5i as a new daily driver. Even when I do finally get a Legacy I will not be selling the Jeep. It's a lot of fun plus it's paid for. In fact after reading this thread I feel pretty lucky, around here I still have not had to pay over $4.00 a gallon. $3.98 this past Sunday. There is something to say about "smiles per gallon" vs "miles per gallon".

Its like 4.45 here in seattle. If you can find a gas station at an indian casino you can get a helluva deal though. Im not sure why maybe they dont have to pay state taxes or something? but its usually 20 to 30 cents cheaper a gallon.

I paid $4.04 in Augusta for 93. I drive to ATL, stop for gas, $4.34! ridiculous! This nonsense has to stop.

I encountered that in MA last month. On my way back from Boston, stopped at a small place off of I-93, $4.65. It was the first time in several years that I have not filled the tank to the top ... I put in a few gallons and made my way to NH to fill the rest of the tank at ~$4.20.

in my truck i used to put 10 bucks in on friday night and drive to parties fri and sat night, then to breakfast sunday morning & have a few beers while off roading with my buddy now 10 bucks is barely enough to get home from the gas station without the low fuel light comming on

getting an around town ave of 13mpg in the truck (which is driving calmly) means i pay 33 cents a mile with gas at 4.40

over 8000 miles the legacy is netting 19.1mpg at 4.40 i get to pay 23 cents per mile

I did some calculations a month ago when it was $4.29/gal for 93. At that rate with my current driving and mileage, I will be spending nearly $4k/year on gas alone for work commutes only.

If I could convince work to let me telecommute 1 day a week I would save nearly $1000 of that/year. The problem is businesses are not willing to let people telecommute because they think it reduces productivity. Yet here I am getting my forum on at my desk.

Agreed. During the summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day), we are allowed to work a 4 day week (4x10hrs), and have a day off during the week. The 10 hour days are torturous if it is slow, but it's worth the day off and money saved in gas.

We are trying to get it to be a year round thing now with the cost of gas, but who knows what will happen. We are also in the process of setting up VPNs and satellite offices so we are closer to our clients and we can work from home. I get shafted on 2/3 of those benefits though

honestly it seems for the most part people on here have not seen a big difference between the I and the GT as far as fuel econ goes. If you keep the GT below boost you're not really using much gas anyway. The powertrain loss is still there for the I, it may be a little less efficient I would think because it has the 4EAT instead of the 5EAT.

What kind of city mileage are you getting?

I am getting about 24 mpg in mostly city driving (with a lead foot wife driving it most of the time.) We recently got 31-32mpg on a recent 1400 mile road trip driving over 70mph most of the time w/ a little city driving mixed in. Also, this is all on regular gas so that saves a little money as well.

Hmmmm... I wander what Gas prices will do....Now that Iran test fired a ballistic missile?

Just imagine what happens once they find out Haliburton was behind it!

Just kidding - I have no info. But, doesn't it seem like ANY news from the middle east is a reason to hike gas prices? Iran just said "We like M&Ms". Oh Noes! Hike the price while you still have gas left to sell! Sometimes makes me wonder..

I mean, it's pretty obvious that aside from sports scores (and maybe even not those) the ONLY real reason for mainstream media to still exist is propaganda and to scare and then placate the masses. Honestly - does ANYONE take a tv journalist or "expert" brought in by a tv program seriously anymore?

Sorry, just had to vent..
