Removable GPS cubby mount

I have a few questions:

1) Can the cubby close with the mount still in place (sans GPS)?

2) Is there any GPS that will fit inside the cubby and allow the door to fully close?

Hmm, bummer. I was hoping for a portable unit that I wouldn't have to remove in order to "hide".

I'm planning to purchase a Garmin 265WT. Should I get the old style mount or the new one? If I'm using the Arkon mount, do I need the extra space sticking out with the 265WT?

EDIT: Scratch that! Just found a great deal on a 755T so I ordered that and a new style mount from ryobi1.

I first have to say that Ryobi's mount is excellent...im still using the older one with the Arkon mount. My suction cup hangs over the edge slightly, so I will probably look to get a new one sometime soon.

I also included pics of my audio setup in which I used an amplirider to multiply and power extra 3.5 inputs. This is a relatively simple and excellent ipod/GPS solution many out there might be looking for. If anyone has questions about my install or wants to know more, just let me know.

I am have been playing around with other options then just the GPS. I picked up a few new mounts through Arkon and thought I would show them. Here is my cubby mount with the Arkon GN115 and the Arkon SM020 Universal Cell Phone Cradle. It works really well for holding my Sirius controller and can be used for iPhones, etc.

You would definitely want the Arkon mount however, you might be able to make it work with the original mount. I was able to angle the original mount towards upper back part of the cubby with the supplied suction cup mount. It worked well and looks fine, but the Arkon mount with the new mount would be well worth the investment.

So what exactly is the difference between the new and old mount you made? I have an 05 Outback XT and want whichever one will fit best for me.

I found there was a rubber mat in the cubby that was fit to the space already. I took that out and the Garmin suction mount seems to stick to the plastic cubby by itself. anybody else tried this? I want to buy Ryobi's part, but if it works without I probably could save the money.

The suction mount will stick on the bottom of the cubby, but only for a short period of time. The surface of my mounts are very smooth allowing the mount to stay in place.

As for the difference between the new and the old, the new one was designed to allow for more adjust ability. That is the biggest difference.

That looks like a good idea as well. My concern would be the velcro. I have a lot of problems with the velcro on my radar detector when the weather gets hot.

With my mount I have yet to have my GPS fall for any reason. Now if I could come up with a better mount for my detector???

I have added mounts for TomTom and Magellan now. If there is anyone in my area (Portland, Oregon) with either of these models, I would love to get some pictures in exchange for a mount.

I finally gor around to doing this!!

my god.. the original version of ryobi's plexi cubby thing was sitting in my house for MONTHS!

I love it! I will probably re-do the wires tho.. and take the light harness off of the cubby light tho... its distracting.

I thought about taking the door off.. but I dunno if I'll try something like that..

Your cubby has a light?

My cubby has a light as well, it has a deep yellow, almost orange-ish glow to it. I have hesitated in purchasing ryobi1's product because, not being electrically savvy, I knew the light would annoy me and I wouldn't be able to disable it.

Can anyone relate? Has anyone attempted a solution?

Wtf. My 09 doesn't have a light...

I wonder if the light is a plug-and-play swap to the newer cars. Not that I'll have a cubby much longer anyway, but it would be nice.

subaru and their cost reducing.

yes, it has a yellowish light in the back. My inffo center also has a button that lets me toggle the interior lights from dim to bright when my lights are on. that button.
