I want to use one of ryobi's mounts to hold a Sirius Stratus 4. I don't think

the mount that I have (came with Sirius vehicle kit) sticks out far enough

(especially since I'd like the mount to stick out far enough to still be

able to keep a few small items in the cubby).

Any recommendations for an AMPS style (I gather it's a standard 4-hole pattern

that works with any Sirius radio) mount that works nicely with ryobi mount ?

I see he has a picture of a Sirius at his webpage, but he doesn't say what

mount is being used. One of these two looks like it might work nicely:

Anyone tried either of these ?

I did change the design of the tabs as well. I widened the base of the tabs to make them stronger. Also, most of the mounts fit pretty snug, so I don't see it being a problem.

As for the door closing, I have not seen a mount setup that will allow the door to close. Correct me if I am wrong.

I will try to get some pictures taken outside tomorrow. It is really hard to get a good picture in my garage.

Today was install 'mock up' day for my Garmin Nuvi 760. 'Mock up' simply because it won't be final until I install a cigarette lighter in the cubby and route the wiring through the dash/pillars for the remote antenna and microphone.

Thoughts: To say I'm pleased is an understatement. The fit/finish of the 'new' cubby mount is beyond expectations. Some folks mentioned there was a little play in the mount and needed to use double sided tape to lock it in - not the case with the new mount. Mine fit perfect; even seemed to 'click' into place. When I tried to pull it out, the surround popped loose from the dash first - that's how nice/tight the fit was. The only down side I see at this point is my girls have grown accustomed to holding the GPS (exciting thing to do when you are 5 and 7) - now they'll have to gaze at it mounted on the dash :)

Thanks for creating a simple/inexpensive aftermarket accessory - at $24 (cubby and gps mount) you will not beat this combinaton.

Sorry, I'm probably the only guy in the world with no camera - so no pictures. Although not much to see other than those posted on the sight.

I received my mount last week and all I can say is WOW! I was initially expecting a product that looked like an amateur made it. I mean, I expected the piece to be okay but I was completely blown away with what I got.

I got the original mount in black and I must say that it is very sturdy. I figured it was going to be a little flimsy but I was proven wrong. The piece was shipped with a nice covering on both sides of the mount so that it would not get scratched during shipping. The piece was then in turn mounted to a piece of hard cardboard so that it wouldn't break during shipping.

I also ordered the Arkon mount that was suggested and I'm still completely blown away with what I got. For relatively low cost, I can now mount my GPS in the cubby instead of the windshield. This allows me to remove the GPS when parked without leaving the tell tale signs of a GPS in the car.

By the way, the Arkon mount works with a Garmin Nuvi 260. That wasn't listed on his site, but I figured I'd give it a try.

GREAT product and I'd recommend anyone looking for a nice removable mount to buy this product.

I tried this one, and although it was a solid well-made device, the

suction cup part is too large to fit inside the cubby gracefully - in

particular, there's not enough head-room to rotate the lever which

locks-down the suction cup.

Try mounting the the arm with suction cup on to the cubbie mount first then slipping the arm with the cubbie mount into the cubbie.

Not a bad idea, but I'm just trying to stick it to the floor of the cubby,

with the rubber mat removed; I can't see a reason (other than what you

just described) to have a removable cubby floor AT ALL for my purposes

(no offense to ryobi1).

Instead, I returned the 809-AMP and am trying the smaller 810-AMP.

The suction cup does not stick well to a textured plastic. You make get it to stick short term, but will end up losing suction. The material that I make the plate out of is a very high gloss surface. That was one of the reasons I came up with this idea.

Oh I see. So you're saying that the floor of the cubby, even without the

stock rubber mat, is probably not glossy enough to hold the mount

reliably ? Makes sense, I noticed that the too-big one that I sent back

(809-AMP) would only stay stuck to my kitchen formica (pretty damn

smooth, but not smooth as glass) for a couple hours max.

Guess I'm be a customer soon - if you're still doing this. Thanks for

clarifying !

Ryobi1, does the half moon shape that extends out of the cubby enough to sheld the sun from the digital display underneath?

The orginal cubby design with the door closed shelds the sun from the washing out the digitial display underneath....does the new design provide for shelding from the sun?

The new design does come out far enough to help shade the clock. I will try to take some better pictures this weekend.

Also, for anyone that needs the Arkon mount. I am now setup to sell them. I will be adding a couple different ones to my website. Until I get them up there, send me a pm and I will get you a price.

I decided to just stuff a 7" Garmin into the cubby. Its not removable but looks stock. This model also has a video in source so I can plug my iPhone in and play movies.

I wound up indefinitely using my ebay windshield mount. I glued it back together when it broke on day 1. Its about to break again but still holding on. I just love where it puts the iphone. Its right where a shift light or a large tach would be.

Before I stuffed the 7" Garmin in the cubby I had this that worked well.

While you have the the vent/console out you can also add these.

Put in a couple of aux power sources.

Later on I added an audio in port as well.

The metal sheet is also pretty cool. It is a flat sheet of metal I screwed in for a couple of holders like the one pictured below that holds my iPhone in the console.

Here is a pic of where I tapped the power for the aux ports in the console.

This is the cigarette lighter plug.

This is a holder I made that holds the iPhone in its protective case so I do not have to take it out of the case every time I want to put in the mount.

Looks good. Basically the same idea. I have have been thing about doing the same with the outlets. How deep is the area behind the cubby?

The one thing with my mount, you have full use of the cubby when the GPS is not in use. I keep sunglasses, etc in the there and leave the suction mount attached to the plate. I usually just stick it under the seat when I am not using it.

it depends where you mount them. The area behind the cubby isn't much deeper than the cubby itself for the most part, but if you put a cig lighter in the center or slightly off center as depicted you should be fine.

the radio mount actually goes all the way up to the foam dash pad and has braces behind the cubby. It has 2 holes in it that appear to be used for oem navi mounting, and a large rectangular opening in the middle for wires and weight reduction I suppose.

I have a radio mount sitting in my garage. I might take a pic of it later today if I remember for you
