next mid-life crisis car?..........WWYD?

Recommended Posts

making more money now, and I'm thinking of upgrading from the Speed3 in early 2008. so many good choices to pick from its hard to "thin the herd."

realistically, I should draw the line at a $50K price bogey. but I could probably stretch it up to $60K if I really had to ;) here are some early contenders:

  • 08 BMW 135 (M-edition, 300hp, 0-60 5.1 sec, 3400 lbs) best bang for bucks, est. MSRP $35k
  • 08 BMW M3 (new E92, >400hp, 0-60 4.8 sec., 3650 lbs.) base MSRP $59k (way more with options)
  • 08 Corvette Z51 (new 6.2L LS3, 430hp, 0-60 4.1 sec., 3200 lbs.) MSRP $49k
  • 08 Cadillac CTS-V (few details, supercharged V-8, 500hp) price TBD

comments/suggestions :)

What is cool about a 911 is...well it's a 911. No car manufacturer can touch Porsche...it is the ultimate sportscar...simply put.

They look, drive and out do virtually anything a BMW can do.

A Porsche gets more looks...I just love them...nothing can top a 96 911 turbo...great car for the $$

plan on working on it, or leaving it bone stock

if you would consider going up to a Stg 2 level... I can think of a few relativly cheap cars that would be tons of fun when modded, but still get some looks

hey, the 08 Vette is getting a major overhaul, not just a bigger engine.

  • exhaust by-pass option (same as on Z06)
  • 436hp / 428 tq
  • Tremec TR-6060 6MT (2 gearset choices)
  • 6.2L OHV pushrod V-8
  • 10.7:1 compression
  • new intake runners (17% greater flow)
  • hallow-stem intake valves
  • new camshafts (more lift, less overlap)
  • Goodyear Eagle F1 run-flat tires

Winding Road says to expect a talented launch to break 4-sec 0-60 mph

I would go with the 08 vette.

You should never get a bmw when it is in its first year of production, Too many problems.

If you want a M3 (for the first year) you have to either be a loyal customer or be willing to pay a markup.

Plus, with the new corvette, You can get 500whp with only a $4 grand investment

buy the Vette. btw i want an 08 auto and i'm going to sell my '03 Z06 (7500 mi.) if you know anyone. :) bosco

The auto isn't much slower, as GM states it will hit 60mph in 4.3 seconds and top out at 190+ mph. I can't see calling that much of a handicap over the manual. It's the drivers choice.

If the OP decides to get a 'vette, look on the vette forums as there are a couple of exclusive Corvette-only dealerships around the country that post large savings - one in my area has been posting a deal of $7500-off MSRP on 3LT models for a long time now for forum members.

If I was in his shoes to have the luxury of making such a purchase, the 'vette would be my top choice. And... if you have some extra $$$$, look into the new 4LT package, which covers the entire dash in leather as well as some other added luxury features.

yeah....I must admit....the Vette has a good shot!

since I love tracking so much, I know it would be a sweet ride!

i'm a member of http://www.corvetteforum.com also here's what a C5 Z06 can do. bone stock (no mods of any kind, stock F1's) with a good driver. bosco

Z06 BoneStock Times

1--11.783 @ 116.90--1.818--J-Rod-------'02

2--11.818 @ 117.26--1.783--Ranger------'02 11/03 Slip

3--11.93x @ 119.xx--1.xxx --Esoteric-----'0x

4--11.97x @ 118.80--1.90x--GMHTP------'04 03/04

5--11.99x @ 117.61--1.xxx --02Z06Racer '02

6--12.048 @ 115.92--1.866--pwrshfd-----'02 12/03

7--12.08x @ 115.95--1.83x--Pray---------'02 01/06

10-12.21x @ 112.xx--1.87x--Blue Angel---'02 07/04

then throw in over 1g cornering, 170+ mph top end and 25 mpg

bosco,

the kind of track that I dig has a pit, start/finish line, turns, hills, fast straight-aways.....

but getting a bone stock car that can trap over 110 mph in the 1/4 sounds damned sweet!

as Homer Simpson would say.....Mmmmmm, torque curve

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a373/BOXRPWR/2008-corvette_dynoplot.jpg

notice when the exhaust by-pass opens at 3,300 rpm the curve rises up on the 2008 Vette
