Knight705
see at least those keys look nice, and was actually designed. the subbie key/fob combo looks like they just went, "hey lets just stick the fob on top of the key to make a Kob.
rallysquirrel
Subarus are some fugly fobs, but still beats a key AND a fob. The pic ^ of the BMW is sooo much more like I'd like. The toyota ones are nice too.

The toyota ones are nice too. honestly - I'd rather have them seperate and sleek as opposed to a ****** brick in my pocket. If there is one thing that subaru will gain from having toyota's input it's a sense of the ****** market in north america. Maybe they'll make some decent keyfobs that have the subaru logo in them like the BMW types. Maybe a nice switchblade type key? It's honestly not that difficult. It'd cost what? Another 60-70 bucks for one? Hell I'd spring for it. BMW realized they can make a really really ugly car, all they have to do is stick a lot of gadgets and gizmo's in it and it'll sell - case in point; iDrive, nightvision, and a HUD. Who the hell needs a hud on a 2.5 liter 174 HP engine? Nobody, that's who. EDIT: Look at this sexy key fob- http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/1449/bmw500vy6.jpg http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/list/top10/116741/article.html Go look at that article - that's what SOA should be looking at. alwaysjeff
Hey guys. Let me tell you that the new key/fob on my 08 spec b is great. It fits in your pants pocket nicely. With my wifes 07 foresters key and fob it always sticks out in your pocket. Never had a Subaru sedan but its nice being able to open the trunk with out having to unlock the whole car. Sure hope I never lose it. Cant imagine what it costs to replace.
alwaysjeff
08 spec b- thanks for the welcome. Glad to see somebody else has an 08 spec b. Thought i was the only one to have one so far. Did you get the sirius radio? I ordered it but it wont come in till July they tell me. That sucks. Anyone out there know anything about this. Subaru had sirius in 07. I dont know why they cant put one of them in the car.
rallysquirrel
I preffer a switchblade in a housing that's fairly flat. I don't care if it's wider as long as it's flatter so it can fit with my other keys. Here's another one I really dig. Replaces your other keys. The ALL-IN-ONE FOB holds up to 6 keys. Price is expected to be $50 for the basic fob. If you want RFID it's going to be extra. http://www.notcot.com/archives/2007/04/keyport.php http://www.notcot.com/images/keyport.jpg

axis008
meh. looks cool, but it won't really work with your car unless it's old because of the immobilizer chip (where's it going to go?). not to mention it'd get old sliding the key in and out every time you want to use it. ---- after doing valet driving many, many cars, my favorite keys are as posted above the 7-series key (slightly different than the 3-series key in that it feels and looks more upscale) and the lexus gs/toyota avalon keys. if i had to choose a regular key that isn't all fancy, my fav. is actually the jdm legacy key fob... must figure out how to get one! -ben
rabydanimal
Yeah, who do they think is going to buy that? What car doesn't have an immobilizer these days?

I mean, I'm sure by the time I purchase one they'll have the whole thing sorted out but still, it's just kind of sad to see the generic fobs they are going with. EDIT: it has RFID and the Alarm built in - is that the same?
axis008
Hmm forgot about that. Read about that key fob a long time ago. Immobilizers do use RFID. Still! hahah.. Who wants to use their keys to open their doors? What if you have passengers? well than someone tell SOA that bricks in a pocket is not half as awesome as snakes on a plane. I mean, I'm sure by the time I purchase one they'll have the whole thing sorted out but still, it's just kind of sad to see the generic fobs they are going with. i feel your pain! but please know that subaru is not the only one with bad key fobs. My mom's '05 Honda CRV key is almost exactly like the Subaru one! -ben
rallysquirrel
That company is working on RFID to be in the fob. but price is expected to be $50. I'll stick to multiple keys and fobs in my pocket.
wukindada
Not big on fobs.....keys......anything in the pocket sucks:( The smaller the intergrated key/fob combo the better Toyota 6EATS .........SUCK!!!!!!

I'll stick to multiple keys and fobs in my pocket. yeah, that is kinda steep, but if subaru keeps these damn keyfobs the way they are I'll pretty much pay anything for the convenience of the damn thing. I'm sure they'll change and be more "bimmeresque" by the time I buy one (probably 2 years now, it was going to be this summer but circumstances changed).
