Patagonian has a large post count to make up for his short shaft......

I can try to design just a ball, but you are lifting the shift boost quite a bit (unless you have a short shaft). I wanted to make something that met everyone's needs. I guess I can shrink it down a little more.

Adding weight will not be easy. Right now it is lighter, and adding weight adds cost. I will talk to the fabricator, maybe I can press-fit in a slug of stainless steel that has the lip and thread detail. Press-fitting JUST the thread detail would not add that much weight. If I press-fit the lip and thread detail and just have a Delrin 'shell' - the fabrication cost rises substaintially becase I have to lathe 2 pieces instead of 1... and I have to press-fit those pieces together. That turns a 2 step process into at least 5 or 6. Nobody would buy it... and some people like a lighter knob anyway, so there might not be cost justification.

It is something to think about for sure, but you are looking at a $40 knob vs. a $65 knob.

Any ideas on making this unique while maintaining a simple look? two narrow grooves around the center?

I like how the momo knob is slightly flattened on top, maybe you could do something like that. I have grown to like my momo, but I hate burning my hand in the summer, and am not looking forward to winter.

that is a possibility

driving impressions - you can feel the gears engage and this thing is sooo smooth I love it. The finish is just very nice.

Pics of it installed. My shift boost is smashed a bit where it connects to the shift knob... so it does not look like the diameter's match - but they do. The shift knob diameter at the base is the OD of the shift boot.

It matches the color of the boot VERY well.

Texture shown with flash - but not much of a texture - its smooth as a baby's bottom. The Delrin really has an unexpecting feel, a GOOD feel to it, nothing like a metal or leather knob.

and what kind of camera is that again?? Damn if it doesn't take pics like a cell phone. Try switching it to 'center focus' instead of 'multi-af'. Or, send me the knob and we'll get some bitchin pics taken for you (I promise to return it). ;)

Damn you guys are picky. You have me sitting in front of the computer all damn evening designing the most pimp shift knob there is. Of course I LOVE my delrin knob you all have seen, but I am easy to please unlike everyone else!!! This is as short as I can make it. My design was inspired by the 6 speed STI knob. The 'lip' of metal on the bottom will hopefully look good while providing extra weight.

After many design hours I have come up with what you see below. Yellow = Black Delrin, Blue = metal of sorts (stainless steel?). The idea is the metal will provide weight, while the delrin provides very smooth comforatble feel in both summer and winter.

I have not taken this design to my fabricator yet to see if it is even possible, or how we are going to adhere the two. Since the Delrin is black it might get warm in the summer (of course we will not know until next summer comes or I find someone that lives in warm climate can test for me). I need to make sure that with temperature changes, the two stay solid. For the most part, it should be NOTHING like a metal knob in the weather.

This will be MUCH more expensive than a plain Delin knob, but then again I think it will be well worth it.

show me some love for designing this shizzznit
