Subaru Wave

Recommended Posts

Does this tradition not exist in Southern Cali? I could pretty much count on it in Hawaii but here noone ever returns the wave. I just get return looks like im some child rapist.

bet you miss Hawaii!

For the most part, I'll acknowledge with some type of hand signal (good or bad) then go about my business. . . .

I read this thread earlier, and then had to go downtown this evening....about 35 Km roundtrip. I decided to try it out and see what the Canadian reaction was going to be.:iam:

I waved at 21 Subarus (Mostly Imprezas and Outbacks...no LGTs) and got a couple of quizzical looks and no wave backs.......Most simply didn't notice or ignored me  So much for Subaru commaradery:icon_mad:

WHERE IS THE LOVE??????

In Alaska, there are wayyyyy to many of these freakin subaru things. Every old lady seems to have a forester or an OB 2.5i. It sucks here..... My arm would get tired just driving to the gorcery store waving so much. :icon_mad:

it is funny how I got a lot of waves and waved back when I had my WRX, but it seems my black LGT goes unnoticed. Like I was flying a stealth fighter or something and not show up on the radar. I wonder if most Imprezza owners know Legacys',Outbacks', and Forester Subies are related cars of the family? Oh well, doesn't upset me much. I love the LGT, so the wave is not a biggy. I would wave to other Legacy owners just for the response. I still don't see that many legacys' around my neighborhood though.

For your car audio/video needs:D

Audio Crafters IS it.

Of the few LGTs that I've seen and waved/flahed beams to they all (4) waved back. I never wave at "other" subies unless they wave first. Well, unless it's my step-mom, she just bought a forrester. The "rainbow" folk don't generally give salutations unless you display the rainbow markings on your subie

So, explain the pecking order? Do you wave to STI's? WRX's? WRX Sport Wagons? Only GT sedans or wagons?

What about Gen I Legacy GT's? In the Jeep world there's a strict hierarchy, beginning with flat fenders.

I haven't seen two marque owners wave to each other since the last MG's rusted out. I don't wave to any other Subarus because it would get tiring around here.....

I get returned waves maybe 40% of the time. I was in traffic next to a very clean modded red WRX, where I was in front of him for a while, and he was in front of me. When he was in front of me, never returned my wave (but it looked like he had his mirror adjusted so he could see himself and nothing else), and when I was in front of him he never did either. When I was next to him, would never even look over. Just kept a smug look on his face the whole time. Oh, how I wished street racing were legal and we weren't sitting in rush hour so I could wipe that freakin' smirk off his face.

My oberservation so far is that women don't wave, and actually avoid any eye contact. Also, "pretty boys" driving WRXs don't wave. Other than that, it's a toss up. Some 60 year old driving a WRX might wave, but a 25 year old driving a STi may not.

Just got a wave yesterday from a guy in a brand new Outback XT...still had the 30day tag on it!

Guy (Mid 40's) said when he got on the interstate he saw me up ahead & he ran me down.

We gave thumbs up & I told him about this site;)

Have only ever had 1 WRX owner wave.....about half of the STI owners wave. (75% of all Subarus down here seem to be STI's)

Never had a wave from a Forester or a Tribeca

Toyota 6EATS .........SUCK!!!!!!

Oh Yeah??? That would be 2 in the last 2 months....one GT wagon and a GT Sedan.......The dealers are selling them but I have no idea where they go after that......They are NOT out driving around:iam:

I wave at everything with a Subaru badge. My wife thinks I'm a huge dork, but I keep at it.

I don't expect many return waves from Grandpa in the Outback, but I really do expect it from WRX guys. However they seem to be quite clueless (or too wrapped up in their own world) to wave back.

There's some middle aged white dude (read: 35+) in a blue STi in Richmond who just glares and revs his awful exhaust at me every time we see each other. I feel like sticking my boot in his ass for being such a 'tard.

Oh well, I keep pluggin away with the Subaru wave.

The subaru wave was huge back with the WRX's started coming out in 2002-2003, you would always get a wave. Now though that I drive a LGT I don't get many waves. But I do get some, and I wave some still too. I like it.

I give the wave to Legacy GTs and Outback XTs. Basically, Legacy-class sedans and wagons with a hood scoop. Here in Portland, I get about 50% response.

Up on the mountain, I give the wave to every scooby, and get returns about 90%. I guess the drivers who don't need both hands on the wheel driving on snow like to show off that fact...

DukeTrout- I hear you on the mountain statement.

Up here in Whistler, I'd be waving at almost every car that a drove by.

I was in Sun Peaks / Kamloops on Easter weekend and the parking lot looked like a Subaru Pride show and shine (less the shine). I couldn't believe how many old-school Wagons were up there, still chugging along. They outnumbered any other class of vehicle up there.

I love to see all the mountain enthusiasts abandoning unnecessary and wasteful SUV's and embracing the Subaru wagon mentality.

Mid-day giggles have hit. I just about fell out of my seat reading this. Sick and wrong and funny. I can see the confused people.

I wave sometimes, but no love. Very few OBXTs in my area. Usually, OBs with families - no clue that the XT is a performance wagon.

So you wave to Gen I Outbacks and GT's - which have a hood scoop but no turbo? Or just the latest gen? No wave to WRX's or STI's, which have a hood scoop and turbo but aren't Legacys? What about Gen II Legacy GT's, which lack a turbo or hood scoop? Still trying to understand the pecking order.

Just wave to ALL subaru's from SVX's to STi's and keep the tradition going...

Eventually all the soccer moms and grandmas will "get it".

(you should have seen the look on the middle-aged asian lady in her Tribeca when I gave her a big wave. EXTREMELY confused  )

WAVE in town = 05&06 LGT sedans and wagons, 05&06 OBXTs. OK, SVXs, too

WAVE on mountain = anything with a six-star on midnight-blue logo. Unless some smarta$$ has put one on a Ford Escort...

I got plenty waves in my old '88 Turbo Saab 900. Here, there are soooo many Subes but hardly any new gen. Legacys and only about 6 new gen. Leggy wagons (2 of which are GT's) that I've noticed (and i DO take notice). But I guess I never waived 1st and never had one waive to me.

What I do get is men & women in OB, Mazda6 & Audi wagons who stare. Even 1 woman in a red LGT sedan. Interestingly, no Volvo wagons or men in LGT sedans look... even when I'm beside them.

I think I'll start the waive here in VT!

I saw a woman getting into her 2.5i wagon as I was leaving a parking lot, since my path took me by her I rolled down the window and said "Nice car." I normally don't wave because no one waves at me. :( Maybe I'll initiate it. No love for stock looking LGT wagons.

I can hardly get other Porsche drivers (Especially newer ones) to wave back to me when I'm in my 911. I never even think to wave when driving the LGT.

That's because you're in a 911, Boxster drivers always give the wave. JK, I know what you mean about the newer ones, damn badge buyers......

That reminds me.

I did greet a woman who pulled behind me at a local hotel. She was driving an Atlantic blue LGT wagon w/ Jersey plates. I said "nice car" to her. She smiled and kept on. Me and my wife looked over the car for a moment 'cause she liked the woman's blue w/ tan leather and gold pinstipe down the side.

So, how many vertical feet do you go up before you start waving? If you see one coming from the mountains, but not actually on one? All this snobbery stuff is so confusing!

We had the same problem when we had a Humber Hawk - the Super Snipe drivers just ignored us!

I bet you got rid of the NY plates about 5 milliseconds after you hit the border!
