It looks like someone neutered the damn thing. There was something about all the "rice" flairs, the wing, the second wing, the STi foglamp covers, that went with the ugly face of the impreza,

but now..that mug is barely tolerable. :(

I'm with you on this one, although I do think it looks better with the fog lamps and front lip spoiler than without them.

IF they are so keen to lux up the STI, WHY THE HELL NOT PUT THE STI DRIVETRAIN IN THE LGT???

It is a nicer car, and probably not much more weight, and a world better interior with more space.

This WRX STI Limited seems like a "man without a country" or a "car without a market." People who want luxury with their performance should be buying the LEGACY!!! That is why the LGT Limited and Spec B EXIST, if they would just be allowed to reach their potential. I am not sure how much potential the WRX STI has to go with more luxury, and it certainly doesn't have much time remaining.

An STI drivetrain LGT with Bilsteins should be the Legacy Spec B, and it would have it ALL OVER this car, for the SAME DAMN PRICE!

What is this car going to do to further Subaru for one more year before a redesign? the Legacy I propose would actually put that model more in the competition's face. The competition for the Legacy is getting tighter. I don't see a many more WRX STI competitors coming out of the wings...

At the very least, they should not be ignoring the LGT and making the Spec B so tepid if they are going to be putting this much attention into the WRX STI for ONE MODEL YEAR!

STUPID PRODUCT PLANNING, IMHO.

I would say its more like global product planning. The rest of the world is getting the spec D STI, which is our Limited STI. Its just because they can , its going to be limited run anyway only 800 of them. The Legacy STI elsewhere in the world doesn't even sport the 300 hp 2.5L block, the only other car that does have it is the Forester STI in Japan. I think its unlikely any car save for the WRX STI will get its fulled tuned engine. It would be nice if the LGT got a bump up to the old 276/280 mark if only for marketing purposes.

How global can the marketing be, when we get a watered down Spec B, no blitzen nor STI tuned Legacy, not even a 3.0R powered Legacy.

Just because they can, doesn't mean they should. They should throw the Legacy a bone, especially in the US, which would be something they could do.

The Legacy STI elsewhere, and the JDM WRX STI both have the 2.0 Liter engine anyway. Australia is getting the 2.5 liter block in the Legacy GT sometime... but even their STI tuned legacy was the last blast for the 2.0 Turbo, and the Blitzen for AUS has the 3.0R Spec B build specs.

Subaru can either lux up an economy car for a year, or or they can pay attention to a current car, the Legacy, and not let it get buried under a new crop of AWD and other mainstream sport sedans. Even some non-sporty sedans are getting more than 250 rated horsepower, like the new camry, which otherwise is boring and bland as hell.

I want SOA to tell me where the attention should be focused... Considering the auto press is schitzophrenic, and either likes the LGT, or ignores it completely. IT NEEDS ATTENTION, if subaru wants to make any more money on it...

Or, maybe they still want the Mazdaspeed 6 to still be compared to the WRX STI, instead of the LGT or Spec B.

I agree that 1) SOA needs to market the Legacy more heavily and that 2) We get jipped on our selection of Legacy models.

However, the Legacy is not a huge seller in the US, the Outback is because its an "SUV Alternative" I would be glad we get any kind of limited special edition something. Its a step in the right direction. Our spec B is finally getting comprable equipment to its foreign counter parts save for the fact that theirs are the 3.0R not the 2.5GT engine. Maybe I'm just glad to be getting something even if it isn't exactly what we all think they should be putting out.

Its also worth noting that the Blitzen and Legacy STI are very limited run cars only sold in Japan and Australia. They don't even make it outside of the pacific so I don't feel so bad about us not getting a lot of special edition cars. If they won't sell here why bother? The only Legacy version you mentioned which has a global presence is the 3.0R Legacy in both normal and spec B versions.

Why is there a limited STI coming here instead of other Legacy options? Because all the other Subaru markets with the 2.5L STI engine are getting one as well. If the spec B can start selling better, then maybe we can get some other offerings from around the world. We can still hope though I mean they did gamble on bringing the WRX here in the first place.

Chicken or Egg?

Legacy doesn't sell because it isn't supported, or Legacy isn't supported because it doesn't sell?

This can be traced back several legacy generations since the outback edition was introduced, and the legacy quietly and gradually forgotten as an also-ran until 2005.

I'd be in line for an STI tuned or Blitzen edition Legacy if they were available, not to mention some of the accessories that are available. The only thing is, I will buy a LGT otherwise. How many people go to competitors products who would buy a better supported legacy.

My big point is, I don't see a bunch of customers going nuts over an STI with leather. If they want an STI they'll buy a WRX STI. Maybe a Limited will be an alternative to the other STI, but who's customers are they going to take marketshare from?

The Legacy could get some outside marketshare if it were moved from 8.5/10 to the full 10/10 in terms of equipment, performance, and marketing support.

SUBARU UNLEASHES IMPREZA® WRX® STI® LIMITED FOR 2007

· Less Show, Same Go

· Leather Interior, Power Moonroof

· Only 800 Numbered Units Available

NEW YORK, April 13, 2006 Subaru of America, Inc. today unveiled the 2007 Impreza WRX STI Limited model at the New York International Auto Show. The new edition of the road-conquering Impreza WRX STI packages creates greater comfort and refinement with subtler exterior styling, but does not sacrifice the performance of this street legend.

The WRX STI Limited will be available in the fall in a limited run of 800 numbered units, 400 in Satin White Pearl and 400 in Urban Gray Metallic.

The 2007 WRX STI Limited delivers all the power and performance of the standard model. This new limited-edition version adds a layer of refinement and design detail enhancements targeted at a new group of driving enthusiasts looking for supercar performance but with an understated demeanor. Designed by Subaru Tecnica International (STI), the high-performance and motorsports subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., the WRX STI Limited is descended from the Subaru WRC Rally car.

The WRX STI redefined the performance car category when it was introduced in 2004. We know some enthusiasts have resisted the temptation to buy one simply because they want more everyday driving comfort and refinement, along with less aggressive styling, said Fred Adcock, executive vice president, Subaru of America. Now, with the STIs reputation for pure performance unquestioned, we recognized an opportunity to broaden the cars appeal.

Less Show, Same Go

The 2007 WRX STI Limited stands apart from the standard model with an appearance thats more low-key, and even stealthy. A new trunk-mounted lip spoiler replaces the standard models large dual-plane rear spoiler, and the black

aluminum roof vane spoiler is deleted. A new, deep front lip spoiler further distinguishes the WRX STI Limited from the standard model.

New Enkei wheels with high-luster paint replace the BBS® wheels, keeping the same 17 x 8-in. size and 225/45 ZR17 Bridgestone Potenza RE070 directional performance tires. Behind the new wheels, black Brembo® brake calipers with white lettering have a more reserved appearance than the gold and red-painted calipers on the standard WRX STI.

All WRX STI Limited models feature distinctive black gloss B-pillar paint and high luster paint for the exterior mirrors, and this special edition model includes standard fog lights.

New Refined Interior Keeps the Focus on Performance

The interior of the 2007 Impreza WRX STI Limited balances the performance-directed design and attitude with a dose of refinement. Most notably, the WRX STI Limited replaces the perforated blue high-grip Alcantara® fabric seating surfaces with leather and new dark gray metallic bezels and interior trim.

For the first time in a WRX STI, the performance-design front seats are heated for all-season comfort. Also enhancing all-season driving pleasure, the 2007 WRX STI Limited features the first-ever power glass moonroof on this model. Beyond the changed interior appearance, additional features include new carpeting with improved sound insulation materials, an auto-dimming compass rear view mirror and an audio system input jack for an iPod or other digital music player. Finally, each car in this series gets a sequential number plate.

The standard automatic climate control system integrates cabin air filtration. SIRIUS Satellite radio availability enhances the versatility of the standard 120-watt AM/FM premium stereo, which includes a 6-disc in-dash CD changer and six speakers.

Rally Tested and Road Ready

All Impreza WRX STI models are powered by a turbocharged and intercooled 2.5-liter DOHC Boxer engine producing 293 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 290 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,400 rpm. The Subaru Active Valve Control System (AVCS) variable valve timing technology helps provide strong torque characteristics throughout the engines operating range. A manually operated water spray feature helps to bolster intercooler efficiency during spirited driving.

All WRX STI models are exclusively equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission that features carbon-plated double-cone synchronizers on 4th, 5th and 6th gears to help ensure durability.

Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) All-Wheel Drive

From its launch, the WRX STI has been equipped with one of the most advanced and most performance-directed All-Wheel Drive systems on the market, regardless of vehicle segment. The Driver Control Center Differential (DCCD)

--more--

Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system uses a planetary-type center differential to provide a 41:59 torque split, with automatic and manual differential modes.

Center differential lock-up is controlled by both a mechanical limited-slip type differential and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. The mechanical limited-slip differential activates and operates initially in response to changes in engine torque, improving overall vehicle stability when accelerating or decelerating. In automatic mode, the electronic limited-slip differential controls the differential lock-up by evaluating the amount of lock-up in the mechanical limited-slip. The total amount of lock-up is based on the combination of both differentials. A steering sensor input improves torque transfer response by more accurately relaying the cars cornering situation.

Set in automatic mode, the DCCD system can vary the torque distribution ratio as needed in response to vehicle acceleration, deceleration, steering angle, cornering force and wheel slippage.

In manual mode, DCCD allows the driver to select center differential lock-up to optimize All-Wheel Drive performance for varying driving conditions. The driver first selects manual mode with a console-mounted button and then turns a thumbwheel on the center console to select from among six levels of lock-up. Increasing the locking factor keeps more power at the front wheels (max. 50:50 torque split with 100 percent lock-up selected), which the driver might want in certain driving conditions or on particular road surfaces.

A helical-type limited-slip front differential and Torsen® limited-slip rear differential help to optimize power distribution side-to-side, helping to prevent the inside wheels from slipping during cornering.

Competition-Bred Chassis

A super-stiff Ring Frame Reinforced body structure with a hydroformed front subframe provides the foundation for the high-integrity Impreza platform. Compared to the standard WRX models, the WRX STI models are lowered by 0.4-inch to help lower the center of gravity.

The 4-wheel independent suspension inherits its inverted-strut technology from the Impreza WRC competition car. Aluminum front suspension lower control arms and aluminum rear suspension lateral links reduce unsprung vehicle weight. A quick-ratio steering system yields 2.6 turns lock-to-lock, and the steering rack uses a cannon mount for greater rigidity that improves on-center response.

The powerful Brembo Performance Brake System employs front discs measuring 12.7 inches in diameter and 1.2-inch thick and utilizing 4-piston, fixed-position calipers. The rear discs are 12.3 inches in diameter and 0.8-inch thick and use 2-piston, fixed-position calipers.

--more--

A combination of Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and the Super Sport Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) helps to reduce stopping distances and understeer compared to conventional ABS systems. EBD provides precise control of braking pressure between the front and rear wheels based on the vehicle load to improve stability and stopping distances. Super Sport ABS, using input from a lateral-g sensor, can control the braking forces at each rear wheel independently, optimizing the braking ability during hard cornering to help reduce understeer.

All Impreza, WRX and WRX STI models are equipped as standard with the Subaru Advanced Frontal Air bag system and front seat head/chest side impact air bags (SRS). The drivers side air bag deploys according to the drivers proximity to the steering wheel, as measured by a sensor on the seat track. In the passenger side front seat, a sensor module detects weight on the passenger seat first determining if its occupied, and if so by a child or adult to control air bag deployment.

ooooh.... "unique Enkei wheels". Is there a such thing as unique Enkei wheels? I thought their main purpose was to make knockoff rims that look like high priced wheels. Actually, Enkei makes most of the wheels for Subaru. They also make wheels for Honda and Toyota. It probably goes further than that too, but stockers are stockers no matter who makes them. Someone buying that car is just going to take the wheels off and get some Rotas or something more JDM anyway.

He stole them right off of the subaru website why wouldn't they last?

Just thought that might be the case since all of the links have the word 'temp' in them.

BTW, I didn't think I was 'stealing', I was just pointing to the link location of the official subaru media site.

Okay stole might be a bit harsh, how about just leeching them from the Subaru site. Still I think your links will be good for a while.

enkei makes a lot of wheels for a lot of people, some good and some not. i believe some of the smaller companies don't have their own manufacturing facilities so they farm the work out to companies like enkei.

rota is based in the philippines so i guess they'd be pdm. :)

Here's the link to LeftLaneNews - those usually stick around for awhile:

Personally, I love it - I'm not a fan of the boy-racer look of the regular STi. But I'd have to ditch the hood scoop and go to a FMIC to complete the 'clean' look.

while Enkei in America may be associated with cheap wheels, In Japan they are a very reputable company. They make Light wheels that are still durable. Series such as the Japanese GT series, super taikyu and even in Formula 1 (mercedes/mclaren) uses enkei wheels.

I actually like the look of these too.

The concept of image leeching on a forum is rather straight forward. Instead of hosting the the images on your own bandwidth you are LEECHING their bandwidth to display them. It seems that isn't a problem here and I don't want to make any internet enemies, just noting the fact of the matter. To be nice I won't provoke this any further and we can just leave it at this.
