PGT
That's right, another swap. Thanks to Highwaydrifter, we got these on before the snow last weekend. I wanted to wait to get the car cleaned up for pics, so here's the thread now. I got Cusco Zero-2's from a board member who sold their car. They were set up for an OBXT and I didn't have the right size wrench, so we left them at that height (with a large snowstorm pending, it seemed the logical choice at the time ). As they sit now, the car has 2-3 inches of drop available - check the shock bodies http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y124/PatagonianGT/cusco1.jpg Install was a PITA, as the rears were so stiff we had a hard time compressing them to line up the bottom bolt. After some dirty words and help from a small jack, we got things on. Here's the pics from five minutes ago after a week's worth of driving and settling in: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y124/PatagonianGT/DSC00089small.jpg For reference, the car before with Spec B Bilsteins and Spec B springs (roughly stock height): http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y124/PatagonianGT/STi-BBS.jpg We set the damping at '1' all around - ride comfort is comparable to the Bilsteins, but I'm not happy with the damping. The springs are too much and a double bump loads the rear up and launches the car....looks like 3F/2R or 3F/3R is the preferred setup. As soon as I figure out how best to adjust the rears we'll go that route (the adjusters are tucked under the side panels in the wagon. In summary, even with them set on full soft and with stock swaybars, they handle better than the Spec B's and 20mm JDM swaybar and ride just as well. We'll see how the ride is affected with the stiffer setting. I have a Cusco RSB in the garage awaited the blackout treatment and installation. Should help a bit more without losing the ride or knocking my control arms like the PITA Perrin swaybars did.
PGT
Comparison vs. my neighbor's '02 LLBean H6 Outback. Chief_Wiggum
Yeah the rears are a giant pain. I just pull the panel out as far as it goes and stick my hand in there with the mini-screwdriver. I agree with the dampening assesment. I've been rolling at front:1 rear:2 for a while and it seems okay. A hair underdampened. 2/3 is nice but a little stiff for the roads around Houston. SWortham
When tuning the rear suspension, don't forget to also adjust the spring preload. Try backing off on the preload until there's almost none left. I'm going through the same thing with tuning my coilovers.

Th3Franz
Nice. I can't wait to hear your impressions with a firmer damping setting. -Franz The end of a Legacy http://www.youtube.com/th3franz
ADirtyLegacy
so i must be blind or stupid to the obvious b/c i dont see a difference in ride height. if they only made this "combo" (i/e better handling/stiffer springs and stock like ride height) for my car w/o going the coilover route, i would so be into it! either way *drool* over the wheels!! Aczwild
Man I hope you're taking your fiancee somewhere nice for the honeymoon cuz of all the scratch you put into your car. Nice job and thats what I'm thinking about doing with my car (installing coilovers instead of new struts and springs, so I can raise the car in the winter and have it sitting pretty in the summer) JDM'd All to hell Thanks Jimmy @ Hkc-Speed.com! PGT
We are going to Daufuskie Island, SC for a week for the wedding itself, then a road trip to Asheville, NC for the honeymoon. We will stop at the BMW factory on the way, then stay on Lake Lenore. Nothing crazy, but then we will have spent a week in a beach house off Hilton Head. PGT
I want to get the car adjusted today. I painted the new Cusco swaybar last night and want to install it and firm up the dampers. It's 15F outside and the car barely fits in the garage, so climbing under the back isn't really an option. At the latest, I'll do it next weekend at the install day we have scheduled. -TT-
i have these coilovers and was wondering what the best way to adjust the ride height is? i just loosened the lock rings below the spring and lowered it that way but i was wondering if you can unbolt the lower perch move the lowest lockring up and screw the lower perch in so as to lower it that way....any opinions? Right-o. The "C" adjustment is the spring preload adjustment (which happens to also adjust height). But the "B" adjustment is the dedicated height adjustment.
