brandon.mol
I've not seen any other SUV concept. Just the Ascent, formerly known as Viziv-7 Sent from my ASUS_Z012DC using Tapatalk
DugsSin
Just saw the Ascent at NYIAS, nice looking vehicle and the turn signals are very Audi like and continue around to the side of the vehicle in front and back.

brandon.mol
Better than the near production version that looks like the bastard child of an outback and a dodge journey...
DugsSin
It's a few notches up on the refinement and style scale from the usual utilitarian Subaru if we're still in the market for a new ride when they come out we will go drive one.
xt2005bonbon
I am assuming the third row seats come off right?
FLlegacy
I am sure all the seats "come off". The effort required is another matter altogether, but I would assume it would keep with the design of most 3 row vehicles and they will fold down and out of the way. Brady
It's a few notches up on the refinement and style scale from the usual utilitarian Subaru if we're still in the market for a new ride when they come out we will go drive one. The model you see here is still a Concept Show Vehicle. You can get a real feel for overall layout, but if you're looking at this as a final example of the commercially available product, you're going to be disappointed by what rolls off the assembly line onto the dealer floor. xt2005bonbon
^Yeah. As it's been shared before, that's probably what we're going to get: http://images.hgmsites.net/hug/2018-subaru-ascent-spy-shots--image-via-s-baldauf-sb-medien_100596351_h.jpg

spb
^you do want some design consistency between different models of the same brand.
JF1GG29
I actually dislike that trend. Most blatantly with Audis -- every single car in their line looks basically the same.
spb
Lol, I was thinking of audi as I was writing my previous post.
SubieDriver
Looks like a beefed up Outback. Beefy = Manly. The Outback is too feminine. This is a truck for a man to look manly. I would buy.

Blame the legal requirements forcing the manufacturers to have rounded shapes of the vehicles with just minor superficial cosmetics to distinguish the brand. Aerodynamics also plays some role, but it's the demands regarding pedestrian protection that is the most important part. Brands now have to distinguish themselves more and more on features that makes them unique rather than actual body shape.
xt2005bonbon
Side note: did you guys ever notice that all brands have had their respective logo size increase overtime? The logos they place at the front/rear of the vehicle are now huuuuuge.

dga
Blame the legal requirements forcing the manufacturers to have rounded shapes of the vehicles with just minor superficial cosmetics to distinguish the brand. Aerodynamics also plays some role, but it's the demands regarding pedestrian protection that is the most important part. Pedestrian crash safety dictates that certain portions of the car, mainly the front bumper, windshield, A-pillar and the hood, have more energy absorbance, not that cars look a certain way. For instance this regulation drives that the underside of the car's hood has to be a minimum distance away from the engine, giving the hood more crumple room (cushion) as a body hits it. xt2005bonbon
as cars are getting bigger, it would look weird to have a small logo? well, I mean you can find older cars/trucks that are large in size, and yet their logos are not that huge. Today, it feels like they scream 'look at me'!
whitetiger
badges are branding. cars are becoming like designer clothing and accessories, where the badge represents status and functions as advertising.
spb
Yeah, my guess is that it has to do with branding more than anything.
