Sorry if I missed it, but were you able to salvage your heads since the cam journals were scored?

Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk

When I took them to the machine shop and showed them the heads, he said he would work on the journals and let me know if he could save the heads.

He called me a few days later and told me that we were good so I do have that set of heads bolted on. But I have lost a ton of sleep over those journals.

after I get it done, if the heads are noisy they'll come out and get some others to put on it, I'm so upside down in this project now it won't make a difference.. Back then I was trying so hard to stick to a budget, but then the efr happened and Subarus replace everything design well kicked my budgets ass.

So this 6000$ cars going to end up costing 13000 but it should be pretty entertaining, assuming it never ever gets launched hard.

Only excuse I have... I just turned 40.. [emoji6]

So I haven't been on for ever, I have been busy but not entirely on the car..

I bought an everlast tig machine, and an evolution dry cut chop saw. Then well like everybody, I had to build carts for both.

We're still in overtime but I'm still spending faster than I'm making, so not much progress on the car.. I also helped my good friend get his 4x8 star labs cnc plasma table moved and working. Here are a few pictures of my garage. Etc..

Thanks for the info man! How much did the headwork cost you for them to machine the journals etc? I'm pretty much in the same situation as you with my passenger side head has some groves in the front journal where the cam seal sits....

Sent while redlining all of the gears.

I had a bit of scoring on my journals as well. Nothing too crazy. The heads run good. Extra orifice for oil flow? Just kidding. Can't wait to see how the rotated style exhaust mani comes out!! I'm juiced!

He didn't machine the journals he polished them. So odds are they be out of spec on the loose side.

In hind sight I should have just found a different set. But since they are rebuilt so to speak I'm going to give it a run.

A few more pieces tacked in today.

So this week I managed to get some progress done on the header. And in just a few hours managed to destroy another 80$ carbide blade on my new saw..

I had to redo the top section to get a good fit after over looking an offset.

here are some pics.. I just installed blade #3 in the Saw but forgot to get my argon tank refilled so I'll be doing yard work and helping on sandrails over the weekend.

Just saying....you do know there are companies out there that make headers for these cars....

I give you credit for all the labor of love, blood, sweat and busted knuckles your putting in.

Nice hobby. :)

Do you plan to have this ceramic coated when its finished ?

Nice job, BTW.

Yes, thanks for compliment, one of my friends has a powder coating shop. And he can do that reasonably for me..

It'll probably get wrapped as well.

I would ask your friend about wrapping it... before you do...

I'm not happy with the rust I found under the DEI wrap on my DP.

Thanks for the heads up Max, I wondered about the corrosion issue. These flanges are mild steel not stainless.

Headers are just a really tough one, they live in a harsh world.

I got a bit more done this last few days, almost ready to tie it all together.

The first runner only had 1/2" of shrink that I had to deal with.

Yes, I remember painting the headers on my 340 Duster a few times a year back in the 1970's. Got under there with a wire brush and a can of white header paint.

They looked so great when you stand back and looked under the car and saw the white pipes hanging down.

A couple weeks ago I seen an 07 lgt on a car lot..

So I had to take it for a TEST RIDE to lite a spark

My house projects have kept the Subaru cornered, I finally got some hurdles crossed and made a bit of progress.

The header is all finished up, I solved all if the shrinkage issues with the individual runners so no fit issues at all, wheew

The brackets to mount the turbo on the engine started.

Engine is back in the car, time to build the up pipe.

I've been off track for so long, I don't remember what all I need to do..

Why didn't you finish the engine more before you dropped it in ? TB and intake are much easier on the engine stand.

Here's mine less FW just before going in. Put the FW on before dropping it in.

It's just sitting in there, is not really in, I will have it in and out a few more times I imagine,

Here are some pics of what I have built on the up pipe.

I am concerned here with this being a removable part when it is done.

I made the flange with the tab to attach to the mount bracket.. But that makes the flange 4" square roughly so it won't fit under the engine.23b0a010646e8348812feed2e246ae68.jpg973b89a431c34f5824bc3a3cc947e820.jpg4b35a1fb6df4b32d9fb88f34037cd7bb.jpgd73279166cc3a817965aee1fa7bdeea4.jpg
