Some of ya'll know me from the 4th gen thread "Cool Article about the 05 SCCA wagons floating around still" http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/cool-article-05-scca-wagons-floating-around-still-73859.html

Those that have followed that thread know I sold the SRRT 2005 LGT Wagon to Boxkita last weekend after I popped the engine at Pacific Raceways and he took advantage of my demoralized state to make me an offer, which I accepted.

After talking with my sponsor, Subaru of Bend, we decided to stay in the game but they wanted to see an STI as the platform.

A big shout out to Subaru of Bend for continuing your support!

I made a deal with another racer who had his STI up for sale because he's moving to SpecE46. I know his car and how he cares for it well having raced against him for a few years.

I owe a lot to the members of the LGT Forum, you've helped me immensely the last couple of years to learn the Subaru drivetrain. I've also made many friends both virtually and in person thanks to this forum who I want to stay in contact with.

I'm starting this thread in the Racing forum to continue the racing storey without polluting what is now Boxkita's thread on the original Subaru Road Race Team car.

Here's a few pics. The car I now own is the #19. First up is to decide on a new graphics package. Obviously it needs to have Subaru of Bend on it, but the current graphics on the LGT are blue lettering, so I'm thinking to make the letters for Subaru of Bend silver on the WR blue STI. And the stripes on the LGT were WR blue on the silver body, what do ya'll think about similar stripes but reversed, silver stripes on the blue body? What about the numbers ? White, Black? Or stick with classic Subaru Rally Team yellow?

Go full Colin MacRae! Change the number to 555 and keep the WRB/Yellow color scheme.

Full Colin MacRae minus the helicopter accident of course. ;)

Subbing! Personally I'd go with graphics the opposite if the LGT (silver on blue) but with white numbers. Yellow is cool but kinda cliche and played out IMO.
I put something here like all the cool people, except there's nothing cool to put here.

With matching uniforms for the Thill25 2017 team? I was already considering the number 55. It's my birth year. Yes I'm old, but I operate on the theory that you're only as old as you act!

I need to stick with a two digit number, it's a requirement for the Thill 25. I have to check with the ICSCC to see if it's available for my run groups.

Do the opposite of the Legacy :)

silver stripes on the blue.

Thanks for ya'lls input.

I'm liking the Blue Car, Silver Stripes!

I'm trying to visualize the Blue Car/Silver Stripes with Yellow numbers scheme. I'd like to honor the classic racing color of the WR team. I'm terrible with Photoshop. White works too. Black numbers won't pop on the blue.

When will you be at Thill for the 25, I would like to come up to hang out with you, maybe I can lend a hand. I did work on a couple SCCA club teams back in the 1990's running SCCA GT3 and GT4 cars so I am very familiar with race day activities in the pits.

I'll be there in 2016 with the Retro racing 818R team learning the ropes. in 2017 we'll take our own team to race the STI. We'd love to have anyone with Subaru experience and Thill experience on our team!

Get your NASA Comp license this year and drive the Thill 25 in 2017!

Pretty sure that's how you get your car crashed :D.

Still thinking about if I can make it this year as crew to help out on the 818R team. (I'll have a 4-6 week old baby, so it might be unrealistic), because I want to be there to help out in 2017 for sure.

Opposite of the Legacy. That way, when you're running side-by-side, everyone will say: "Look! It's a Subaru Legacy GT Wagon running with it's younger, STI brother." Let the big dog siblings growl.

Here's my track last pic from the Rose City Opener on the back straight during a test session without the front splitter on yet. You can actually see the front end lift from the APR rear wing and no air dam/front splitter.

Friday I instructed at ORP for a corporate event. We had 40 folks from Seattle come down in their very nice cars for a day of driving the track. They were almost all complete track day newbies, only a one or two had ever been on a track before. It makes for very enjoyable instructing when the students are brand new to it.

After the guests left the instructors had the opportunity to run their cars on the track. I was the only one with my own race car, the rest took out the ORP fleet of Chump- Lemons - Star projects race cars. We did a seies of 3 lap races, mostly to practice race starts 2x2 in a line like a real race. We had a blast.

The STI ran great. There are already mods I want to make (Of Course!).

First up, the gauges are awful. Both the stock dash and a bunch of boy racer gauges on the dash. The two time ago owner installed them all with blacked out smoke faces and red dials. They are impossible to read in sunlight at speed. Mike warned me about the gauge problem, his solution was to use the Cobb AP gauges. I want to install a better data logger any way, and I'm spoiled by my former AIM MXL Pista, so I may "have" to install an AIM MXL2!

Later today I'll post up pics of the unique brake duct system when I get the front bumper off and what needs to change there. I think the design can be directly carried over to an LGT. It's pretty cool.

Here's a some pics from the event. We had 3 Palatovs there. I'd never seen a Palatov in person, and we had 3 in one place. The Palatov is made in Portland and the factory brought out their car that won the Pikes Peak Open class last year. It's insane! (The white one). BTW, it's for sale!

And the red one is one of the instructor's cars, it has AWD, 440 HP, 1100 lbs. The owner is just a couple of tenths off the all time lap record at ORP.

Quick update:

I never got the bumper off, sorry .

I wanted a baseline scale before doing any mods:

No Driver, 3/4 tank:

Front / Rear: 61%/ 39%

Cross: 50.2%

LF: 899; RF: 924

LR: 586; RR: 597

Total Weight: 3006

With Driver no gear + scale equip:

Cross 51%

Front/Rear: 60%/40%

LF: 978; RF: 963

LR: 670; RR 621

Total: 3233

I'm putting the STI on a Paleo diet right away. And moving some weight from the front to the back.

I made a list that already as 23 items I want to change.

Have you looked into the BtSsm app to view your gauges? If you have a tablet or phablet, you'd be able to view more gauges than on the COBB AP, and you'd be able to set up alarms as well (e.g. like pass a certain rpm/ or if the car knocks, or whatever....). You should look into it.

see: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/btssm-bluetooth-adapter-app-229709.html

Here is an example of what I was viewing a while ago.
