What we need is a member with uncontrolled over boost to try porting the wastegate and see what the results are. A few degrees more opening might* help but IMO I don't think it's hurting much if any.

I may be able to help with a little info and some evidence.

 

Disclaimer:

Picture heavy post for evidence and all numbers are on an Australian dyno, because well, i'm Australian.

 

I run a no name (not nameless, i legit have no idea where it came from) DP with high flow cat and X-force the rest of the way back.

It's a long story involving shitty manufacturers services, misfires and boost leaks as to how i got to this point however i was overboosting like a boss! My mechanic spent a few hours checking things, changing things and looking for restrictiors etc all to no avail - She just wouldn't drop below 21psi and this is on wast gate.

Nath (mechanic), has done his fair share of Subies in his time and suggested boring out the exhaust housing - he's a close friend and a dope mechanic so obviously i told him to go ahead.

 

When we pulled the snail - i say "we" it was mostly him - we noticed that the actuator won't fully open because it's fouled by the housing so we hit it with the die grinder and removed the offending material (photo is pretty terrible because of the new shiny surface).

Then proceeded to bore the housing because there is a gnarly lump in on the way to the waste gate.

Back on the Dyno and it was manageable again. I can't remember the numbers off the top of my head - i want to say to 14psi - but Paul (tuner) said that they were where they should be on waste gate. Sadly i don't have a sheet for the waste gate only runs - sorry.

She's running 16psi now with no problems - Pretty sure the sheet for this is in my car, i'll try to remember to grab a photo and chuck it up.

What really bothers me is that Nameless is still posting on here as if their downpipe is a great product and were all just not using it right. They need to take responsibility and at least acknowledge that they sold us an unfinished product whether it was intentional or not. Instead they'd rather keep posting useless data and act like everything is perfect.

Its so good that it makes even more power than the original design, with no boost creep! (Disclaimer: you may need to use leaky oem valve, a grimmspeed ebcs, possibly port wg, bang on the pipe to avoid the flapper possibly hitting, make sure you pull it in the right direction, use oem studs and possibly have to purchase a custom header with ewg). Boost control is YMMV. Still in beta testing.

 

We also carry a replacement BPV to fix that leaky valve.....

Let me run something by you guys, tell me what you think. If we can all agree that porting is the only way to fix our problem and I was the maker of the downpipe that claimed to do something that it doesn't and took money from 20 people and wanted to make things right here's what I would do. I would get a turbo housing port and polish the wastegate remove material so the flapper can open further throw in some new mounting hardware and gaskets if needed and create some nice step by step instructions on how to remove and install and send it out to the people from the group buy with a return shipping label for their core. Take care of the guys that have already installed the pipe first and work your way down the list until everyone is taken care of.

It's not that easy to source the housings unfortunately

The problem there is the actuator only goes so far, the material is not stopping it from opening further, it simply doesn't open further than its 30% or so. As for porting the housings, I wouldn't bet on that being a service Nameless would offer at all, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Whoa there. We don't have any actual data to support that idea. I'd say a 45* opening angle would be a little bit better flowing than ~30% but the question is how much.

Was thinking more like one at a time kinda like the community housing we were trying to get going. It will take a while but we've already waited over a year.

I believe I posted a video showing the travel of the actuator and that was with greater than 20 psi of pressure.

With the level of service they've shown over the year (also remember they messed up some dp orders with missing bungs too) I doubt they come through.

 

It'd be nice but it is what it is. We found the problem. I'd say just move on ourselves, fix the issue, and don't let your friends buy nameless again.

 

I have at least two shops here that can do a port job if people don't feel comfortable themselves. I'd suggest jumping in line with the community core swap and I could set up some kind of port deal maybe.

Yes, and we're very grateful. That limit doesn't prove that opening the flapper further will actually improve flow to the point where overboost is cured however. Definitely worth testing but before this is shown to work I wouldn't advise everyone to run out and get a new actuator.

I was speaking to the stock travel not being limited by the material on the housing, but by the actuator travel. Not whether more opening affected the wastegate flow, that's where we are losing each other ;)

So... I just received the community turbine housing. Mated it up with the dp. The flap definitely contacts the DP for sure.

 

There's almost no wiggle room to adjust this thing for clearance. There's no question about it, the flapper interferes with this thing.

Guys guys guys...Smh. Did no one not see this? Even if our flapper could open up 100% the flapper would contact the flapper opening on the DP. Period.

 

That's the problem. What do you guys want? A vid? Pics? I can show whatever. The issue is clear as day to me.

I'm trying to show where it's contacting. I see that the flapper can't open that far. I have the two pieces mated and manually operating the lever with a pen through the lever arm. I can feel the resistance and it scraping.
