Water in Passenger Footwell

...I took my air compressor and blow out the A/C drain line. I can park the car with the windows down a bit so the carpet dried out fine with no smell.

I was talking to the tech that was working on my car today and that is all they do, to fix it as well...well that and wetvac the car and rightfully so! I would be pissed if i had to do it! I also talked to the people there about having the carpet replaced if a smell arises and they seemed to be agreeable...but we will see how that one ends up?

Yea, they didnt wetvac my car.. I kinda thought about that as I was pulling away that they shoulda done that. I didnt want to schedual another appointment for that though. I think im gonna try a different dealership this time.. They were supposed to be one of the better ones in my area though and where I bought my car from.

How do you get to the ac drain line that you have to blow out? They fixed a "leaky vent" in my car, not sure if they even checked the drain line.

I picked up my car this morning. Its been at the dealer's for two days. They replaced my carpet. They did a very good job. They will also be replacing my floor mats. I just need to call and make sure that they replaced the under lining of the carpet. They said that they were going to, but just need to be sure.

If they replaced the carpet, than they replaced the under lining, too.. as it is built into the carpet!

It is actually a pretty decent carpet padding set-up, and I'm impressed witht the stock sound-proofing (well compared to the non-existent amount of my 02 WRX)... anyway, don't waste your time asking the dealer!!! It's all one piece!

(carpet made in the USA, too... impresive!)

Ouch this sucks... add another one to the list. Two weeks ago I had the footwell/floormat soak through and I initially thought it was due to my friend and his super absorbant sneakers. Then two days ago, I noticed the foot well was soaked DEEP into the carpet and it was bone dry the day before.

This seems far from an isolated case and I believe it's compounded by outside precipitation. Oh the dealership BS that awaits me... it's your aftermarket stereo/it's your aftermarket exhaust/it's your aftermarket bumper sticker

The hose is visible from under the hood. Look on the fire wall near where the condensor/heater core is just forward of the pasenger footwell. You'll see a short hose that comes from the firewall and just dumps. That's it.

Also you should learn to check under your car evertime one walk up to it from a distance. If you use the A/C you should see a puddle of water under the car after you park it. You can also see the stream of water when you pull into your parking spot.

When I park at the end of my driveway and get the mail there are drops of water on the asphalt behind the car. That's how I know the drain is working. If I don't see drops of water I know it time to blow the hose out.

But in general you should look under your car for spots/leaks when ever you can. It's better to be safe then run our of some fluid you need.

You can't really wet vac that carpet. It's spongy. I just bought the whole floor mat. It's one piece and I'm going to replace mine. Also becareful of getting water in teh passenger footwell. The ECU is located there and if there's enough water you may water log or short it.

Good and bad news.

Good news is the dealership diagnosed the problem (clogged AC line), fixed it, and didn't try to blame my aftermarket radio, etc.

The bad is that they had my car all of Friday and all they did was a quickie AC unclogg. They didn't even dry out the carpet or replace the plastic cover with white lining that goes under the glove box. I pulled it out before bringing the car in for service and it was dripping with water and the white material was already stained a nasty orange color. The Service Manager gave me some lame excuse from SOA that the carpet doesn't need replacing because of it's new design, lack of foam, and water resistant plastic liners... riiight that's why when you press down you hear a squish and feel the moisture.

Seems like I'm going to have to fight for a new carpet (it's already discolored and mildly odoriferous). To the guy who had his carpet AND floormat replaced, I'd love to take my car to your dealership.

Hmmmm, I went for about a 10 minute drive just now with the AC/Defroster on the entire time. Gassed up and didn't notice any drip spots under the vehicle around the passenger firewall. Drove back home and observed the same.

My '05, purchased Sept. 04, 2005 has not flooded the passenger footwell, and we have not observed any dampness in the area.

None the less, out of curiosity, how do you go about unclogging the line?

I realize that you folks have remedied this by using compressed air, but where do you apply it at? Under the car where it drains to the ground, or do you somehow detach it inside the passenger cabin and blow it out in the direction that it drains?

BTW, I live in a VERY arid region of California. Moisture does not pose too much of a problem around these parts, except for the lack thereof.

possibly these?

RE: Post #5.

I used to have all of the pdf files for my WRX. Are there any places to get these online for the Legacy GT (5eat) short of paying $300 so SOA?

My legacy is in the shop due to wet carpets. The dealer is saying my car must have been flooded but only the floor is wet. Besides a flood where could all this water have come from? I am going through my insurance company and it will cost me $500.

So here is my update, the dealership says that my car must have been somewhat submerged in water to have so much water in the footwells. I showed the dealer this blog and they were not buying it. I have water in all 4 footwells and I am going though insurance for this damage. My car is running fine and shows no signs of being submerged other than wet carpet. The perimeter of the carpet is dry and the drains were checked and are working properly. The dealers mechanics cannot find anything wrong with this car and I have to go through insurance with this problem. I guess when it happens again, subaru will have nothing to say and hopefully will will get my deductible back. I have had his car less than 1 month and it has only 7000miles on it. SOOO SAD:icon_mad:

There is a service bulletin to all the dealerships about the AC draining problem they are totally d!@&ing you around. Sadly the only “fix” is blowing out the drain line which will get backed up again. Have you called SOA, there is at least one other member that has had the carpet replaced do to the same issue?

Thanks for the reply, I feel I am getting jerked around so I called SOA this morning. I will keep the thread updated. If all works out in my favor than I will have this web site to thank. I showed the dealer this website and they were totaly not interested. Do you believe I bought this car 12/14/05 and I am already faced with this problem!! I feel like a crazy person at this point.

Is this happening more to people that have the HEPA cabin filter or something? Are there any correlations with installed options, or build date?

For those of you that have had this problem, please post model, options (sunroof, cabin filter, etc), and build date...... then maybe we can see some kind of pattern.

2005 Legacy Gt,

Build Date?

Sunroof=no

Hepa Filter? I Dont Think So

Purchase Date=12/14/05

Warrantee Start Date 2/01/05

Purchased With 5700miles

Water Noticed At 7000miles

Took my wagon into the dealer last night. Carpet ahd only gotten wet once

last Friday. I dried that crap up fast to avoid mildew. Leak specialist diagnosed

a open vapor barrier in the bottom right of the passenger door. Said it got

folded open in manufacturing. He closed it. It has been raining buckets for a month here and water only showed up once. Hopefully this solved the problem.

Good luck to anybody else getting swamp carpet.

Another update on the water problem. My car was ready to be picked up today with new carpets and a nice detail job. When I inspected the car I began to feel under the carpet where I could and guess what??? Water! I found plenty of water under the drivers seat and along the center column on both sides. Now my new carpets are being taken out again and they will be drying the car out. The mechanic says that if you look for a problem you will find one. He is a real genious. SOA will be sending a rep down to look at this, but considering I bought this car on 12/14/05 the damage is done. These mechanics always look for the easiest way out and it is clear in this case.

Time to dust this thread off... Here in NE crap is falling from the trees as they leaf out, and it has been rainy and windy bringing a lot of it down.

People in the know, what's the exact procedure dealers are doing to clean out the clogged line? Just hitting the drain line with some air and that's it?

Would like to try it myself before I find standing water in the passenger footwell again. Parking on the street so I'm not directly under a tree, but there are trees all around.
