TrueWhiteBoy
More rumors. http://www.autoblog.com/2013/10/11/toyota-offer-sedan-version-of-gt-86/ Sources in Australia are reporting that we'll be seeing a small, rear-drive sedan from Toyota, based on the GT 86/Scion FR-S. Yes, a convertible variant is still in limbo, but a four-door sedan is in the works. It's unclear if the rumored GT 86 sedan would spawn Scion and Subaru variants (it's hard to cross all ten fingers while you type, but we're having a go). Working with remarks made by the car's chief engineer Tetsuya Tada in his blog and a rendering from Japanese magazine Holiday Auto, the Australian site Motoring is claiming that the new model's wheelbase will grow about four inches over the current GT 86's 101.2-inch wheelbase. Besides the larger overall space between the axles, the sedan will offer a more potent engine option over the current 2.0-liter, flat-four. Promising 268 horsepower, which is a big jump over the current car's 200 ponies, the new powertrain will be derived from the Hybrid R setup, shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show. If, like us, you're reaching for the salt, and we don't blame you. Motoring seems to think the new model will be available later in 2015 or early in 2016, with pricing that should be within reach of current GT 86 owners (around 30,000 Australian dollars, or $28,371). I Donated Too laff79 Posted October 11, 2013 I Donated Too Share Posted October 11, 2013 A boosted brz tried running with me at a traffic light the other night. It was cute. Blew him off the line initially but that thing gained ground quick. Aftermarket exhaust gave it a great sound. I still love how they look too. PGT
that concept looks great...I hope they make it. It's perfect for a commuter and a worthy (ableit slower) successor to the Clown Shoe BMW.
BXR4T
It looks really nice, but I would prefer one without the cantaloupe launcher! *edit- saw some other pics, and it is not as bad as I had first thought.

BXR4T is referring to the enormous diameter of the exhaust tips. Usually this term or similar (grapefruit shooter, etc.) is used to describe those giant exhausts you see on ricers. As in, you could stuff a large, spherical fruit in there and shoot it out like a cannonball.
Perscitus
Looks like Toyota might make the convertable version afterall: http://www.autoblog.com/2013/11/20/toyota-ft-86-open-concept-tokyo-2013/ Would make a nice weekend car or a replacement for anyone with an aging MX5. I'm thinking of one in silver with some nice 19s. MT, no turbo needed.

TrueWhiteBoy
It seems like they really want to make the convertible, but that too many changes would be needed to alter the car that it wouldn't be financially viable.
