  1. Yup that's what I had before for a grill. Never really liked the mesh that it came with, it just looked low quality. You'll see from the shot of the AVO the the mesh I had on before was pretty tight. Fine for street driving but just not enough airflow if you're really pushing the car for long periods of time. Also included a shot of my V.1 brake ducts, definitely like the V.2 much better!
  2. Yes, things are finally starting to come together with the rebuild! Sgt. Gator was kind enough to drop off some parts today from the Subaru dealership and I've got a date booked to drop the car at the tuner next week to begin. Couldn't have done it without all my RBP brethren out there that stepped up to help; Gex, and Rhino6303 helped with hoods and bumpers and Boxkita helped with transport. Thanks again to all. Pretty sure I have everything I need now to re-assemble between the new OEM stuff and some of the parts that were salvageable from the deer strike. Had to chuckle pulling a fresh Suby engine cover out of the box, one that I'll have to hack up tomorrow with my Grimmspeed Top Mount modification so it will fit, (yes I like keeping it..). Also need to do a slight trim on my new OEM intake snorkel so it pulls out of the Cobb airbox easier to allow quick access to one of my front splitter mounts at the track. Super happy with the new, (used) bumper cover, it cleaned up nicely and while its not perfect, its in way better shape than mine had been over the past 10 years with all the road pepper. I also have a hood that should clean up nicely with bit of TLC. Also decided to re-do my brake ducts while the bumper was off the car. I had been running black plastic Home Depot sourced gutter down spouts bolted to the back of the fog light enclosure and hooked to 4" brake hose for the past few years. With this I kept the fog light bezels out entirely. It worked great but was certainly not the most elegant solution and it did bleed more air than it needed to. I wanted to see if I could re-do the system with out breaking the bank and ideally go back to using the RBP bezels again. The foglight hole is nearly 3" in diameter, its just ovalized slightly. Home Depot to the rescue again! I found these rubber pressure fittings that come wrapped in aluminum sheet with worm clamps that are riveted thru so they won' slip off. They fit onto the backside of the bezel and stay put with one of the worm clamps. The other worm clamp near the back provides a perfect channel between the two to zip tie a 4" brake hose over the whole rig. Super happy with how it turned out and best of all its simple. My JDM grill was destroyed in the deer strike so I fished out my old AVO grill that has been in storage and decided to re-vamp it. The original mesh I had put in looked great but it didn't flow much air and I needed something more open for track use so I dremeled out the epoxy blobs holding it in and sourced some new mesh from Custom Car Grills. This is the small hex mesh that they offer, I bought it in powder coated matte black. Once I re-templated, formed and re-JB Weld blobbed the new mesh its good to go! Some pics below of the new parts, bumper cover, ducts 2.0 and grill re-deux...
  3. For sure, just a bit of a moving target when I’ll be in town much better chances of being in the Outback as I pretty much drive the Legacy to the track, on the track and home from the track, (except when it’s in pieces because of a dumb ass deer…)
  4. PM sent, let’s try black instead of blue this time and I’ll see of I can keep away from all the damn deer on the road!
  5. Can't give you an exact apples to apples comparison as I was running one, (stock IHI VF52) with a pump / 740 injectors on my '05 GT wagon 5MT and one (JMP 11 blade VF-52), on stock injectors and OEM pump, on my current '08 Outback XT 5MT. I can say that even the OEM IHI VF52 with injectors, pump, and my Perrin TMIC, tuned at Cobb Surgeline was a big bump from my previous VF40 on stock fueling, Perrin TMIC, tuned at Cobb Surgeline. Way meatier torque numbers and better power up top but with pretty similar OEM boost response. I ran that set up for years in the '05 when it was still a dual duty street / track car. Can only imagine what JMP's VF52 would do with proper fueling. I'm sure it would be a fun street turbo. Of course can't say enough about the JMP 16G I'm currently running in my '05 track car
  6. Haha! I know, I was thinking about all the soap boxes that would stack up in this thread!
  7. Yup Max I was a preferred member as well for a few years but I found that I wasn't going thru enough oil to really warrant the membership price. Since one of their warehouses was just around the corner from Cobb Surgeline it was easy. Not so much now...
  8. Thanks for the comments all, happy to hear more perspectives. My initial thought is to run Rotella in the daily and put Motul in the track car since there appears to be a Motul dealer thru one of the shops here. Still pondering options. This, or just bulk up on Amsoil when I go to PDX once in awhile. Assume there has to be something local that I can source thats easily as good as the Amsoil XL Boosted that I've been running in the Outback. Its good oil but with less of the fancy additives than the Signature Series that I run in the track car, and priced accordingly.
  9. My recent move from Portland to Bend has found me without local AMSOIL source for my daily as well as my track car. It was easy before as one of their distribution centers is just around the corner from Cobb Surgeline. Don't really want to pay for shipping on an oil for my daily driver and Rotella T6 is easily available here in town. Anyone have issues with it? Seems to be a solid go to for folks in far flung locales that can't find the boutique stuff that's available in bigger markets. I don't need anything fancy for my stg. 2 Outback XT daily driver but I don't want to put crap in there either... Also while I'm at it. anyone want to convince me to use Motul or Liqui-Moly in my track car instead of the Amsoil 5-50W Signature Series that I've been running the past few years? I found a Motul dealer here in town and I think there may be a Liqui Moly one as well. I do see Motul stickers all over the Subaru BRZ STI thats competing in the Super GTI if thats worth anything!
  10. Video documentary of the race story to come!
  11. Would have loved this one! Sold for $30k with 54k mi. yesterday. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2011-subaru-impreza-wrx-sti-9/
  12. No issues on my ‘08 XT, kinda a personal preference I guess. Glad I bought a base model GT wagon back in the day, now that it’s a full time track car I’m glad it doesn’t have one to save weight.
  13. If you want to install a good lump, contact Zac at ZF Design https://thezfdesign.com/transmissions-2/Transmission-p115117888 I had him build my custom 6 speed for my ‘05 track car a few years back and it’s performed flawlessly. He offers core replacement discounts as well. I sent him my blown 5sp and got almost $500 in credit towards the build. Shipping to/from Colorado to Oregon was actually way better than I thought. Zac is a great guy and can build you whatever you need from OEM to fully built to handle big power
  14. PM sent about triangle part of air snorkel on intake mine got smashed in a Deer strike…
  15. What kind of power did you make with your 1.5 xtr 10/cm? Thinking about this config for my track car, currently running a custom 16G
  16. Assuming you don't want to run stock muffs, yeah?
  17. Every time someone starts their car with no cats, God kills a puppy
  18. Yup, haven’t ever heard anyone mention that going catless would affect the sound much, most of your exhaust note is affected all the way out back. I ran catted Cobb DP to a resonated Perrin mid pipe / Y pipe to stock muffs and it was barely louder than stock. Once I went full time track car I swapped in Prodrive muffs and BAM, loud Suby burble car!
  19. I'd be tempted to run catless for the short term if you have a legit DP on order. Would certainly ensure the structural integrity of the 1320 DP, (not to mention keep it looking whole for re-sale). Then you could sell one or both pieces together or separately and come out pretty decent.
  20. Yup plenty of space in there. I’m running Cobb and GS heat shields in my cars, and both my JMP turbos have blankets as well. Still lots of room for the engine cover
  21. Meh, if it’s just surface rust I’d just scuff sand it and get any oily residue off and just shoot it flat black with high temp painting
  22. At that price if it’s available and you really need to get the car on the road, I’d definitely be tempted to get it and have your Cobb DP in the wings for later. As long as it fits, you might surprise all of us with how long it lasts . Could even run catless until you get your Cobb if you don’t want to pay to get this one cat equipped and you could probably get cash for that Magnaflow cat section.
