  1. Reading that brought back a old memory, Back in the late Fall of 2005, I still had my summer only's on. We had a small early snow storm. I slowly rolled my car down the driveway on the street. Put it in 1st gear, began to let the clutch out slowly, The GT wagon move sideways down the crown on the road. I limped it to the neighbors, about 80ft, turned around and limped back, home, but couldn't make it all the way up the slight incline of my driveway. Luckily, I had a Chevy Suburban... I took that instead.
  2. Your welcome, make sure your in the correct section for GT engines.
  3. You can find the 05 service manual here, https://people.csail.mit.edu/ilh/vacation/
  4. These cars are finicky if you don't use the right brand of parts. OEM or NGK coils, NGK spark plugs. gapped at .028" Is your tranny a 5mt or 5eat ? You'll want to verify it's not a Gates timing belt kit, they are junk. Aisin, is the only one you want. You'll want to verify the small black o-rings seal between the plastic intake manifold and TVG's have been changed to the newer (2007) larger orange o-rings. zoom in to the second photo, above #2 injector, see the orange tab. Use MAF cleaner to spray up inside the MAF sensor on the air intake tube just after the air filter. Make sure both engine ground wires are in good shape, they area a known issue. You can make your own. third photo.
  5. Yes, normal routine maintenance and cleaning, think MAF sensor, zip-tie all vacuum hoses. Kept both my 4th Gen's running well. That and not only doing short drives. Seems us that drive for distance had many fewer issues.
  6. Sorry to burst your bubble, I have sold both my 4th Gen's. The wagon served me will for some 18 years, but at 306,000 miles, I was done putting money into it. My 09 Spec B had 101,000 miles, but it was getting on in age, as I am, 69y/o, I wasn't looking forward to driving the Spec to VT every week for skiing. I told over her 18' Outback 3.6r. The Outback is a great driving car with all its safety features. Makes the drive very comfortable. Guess I'm getting old... OH, BTW, I'm sitting in the ski house now, after skiing the past two days, one more day to go this week.
  7. I still put a can of Chemtrol Berryman B12 in my gas tank every Oct. I had 306,000 miles on the stock injectors, never had a issue with them.
  8. STI's and Legacy GT's have the same basic shortblock. I can't recall when STI's got dual variable valve control. But there are block off plates to fix that. EJ257 has a slightly different piston shape, but not enough to effect the tune.
  9. I have found that if you google the OEM part number, you might find local auto parts stores that carry the same part. I know that worked with ABS sensor a few years back.
  10. For the coils, call NGK and talk with Tech Support. They will have the correct coils. Do not buy the cheapest parts you can find, lot's of junk out there now days. There should be a DIY for the fuel pump.
  11. My Spec 2 only lasted 50,000 miles. The 2+ gives more than 90,000 miles. I have not had a Spec 1. My Spec Aluminum smfw used the stock T50+ bolts. You can see the set up in my click here link. I used Motul Gear 75w-90 Not cheap but its one of the best out there. Danny Smith was an old drag racing buddy that worked/works at Spec, Jeremy was a contact there years ago. Look through the stickys, here, https://www.legacygt.com/forum/61-transmissions/
  12. Here in the USA, we can go to any Subaru Dealership and order a new ej257 for $2000 and the engine gasket set for your year car. Can't you do that where you live ? Anything used is going to be a crap shot if it's worth the money...Unless your going to tear it apart and inspect all the parts, and do all the labor. A machine shop can do the work you can't or don't know how too. Again the machine shop labor is more than the cost of a new ej257.
  13. Maybe a lesson to others, who are thinking about tracking their car. Question, did you change the offset with those wheels ? If so, could that have put more stress on the studs ?
  14. About the $500... how long do you plan to drive this car ? Is the body in nice shape, not much rust ? I'd put that 500 into a new ej257 and "do it right the first time".
  15. I'm thinking your clutch is gone. When you give it gas going up a hill in a higher gear, the rpm's will increase faster than the normal, and not gain speed. At your mileage, that's common. When it comes to a replacement clutch set-up. I have had great performance from my Spec 2+ clutches. Call them directly and order from them, cut out the middle man. You'll need to have the DMFW changed for a single mass flywheel. Again, their LWFW with the replaceable friction surface works great.
  16. Talk with the machine shop. My trusted family friend told me, it was cheaper for me to buy a new ej257 short block and have them rebuild the heads. They also assembled the long block for me. Looks like your oil pick up tube cracked and fell off. Late 05-early 06's had a issue with that tube. I don't think a ej253 will be a good match for your heads...(?) Have you found proof that they will bolt to a ej253 ? Read my, click here link to see how to do it right the first time.
  17. FWIW, my local dealer matched the on line price for the ej257, that was back in April 2012. There was no chance of shipper issues. But, I have been buying parts from them for a while.
  18. As far as I know, the 2.5 has one CVT,the 3.6R's had a different CVT. There are only two CVT's for those years.
  19. Thanks, that's much easier. I see in the next page, "check the under engine ground straps...that should be easy to do. I see on page 3947, shows where its located.
  20. This may have some info for you. https://www.subaruoutback.org/threads/amount-of-cvt-ii-fluid-drained-when-being-replaced.558319/
  21. I can view the 2018 owner's manual. on page 11-19 tells you to go to page 12-7. gear oil, Subaru Extra MT it's 75W-90 API class GL-5 Both front and rear diff's use the same. Continuously variable transmission fluid Consult your SUBARU dealer. 2.5 L models: · Legacy: 11.9 US qt (11.3 liters, 9.9 Imp qt) · Outback: 12.4 US qt (11.7 liters, 10.3 Imp qt) 3.6 L models: 13.4 US qt (12.7 liters, 11.2 Imp qt)
  22. Also could you give us the page number ? When I open the download, I get page 1 - 6057 It's not easy to find ABS-59
  23. This may help... https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+replace+ABS+relay+2005+subaru+legacy+GT&rlz=1C1OKWM_enUS906US906&oq=how+to+replace+ABS+relay+2005+subaru+legacy+GT&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQIRigATIHCAIQIRigATIHCAMQIRirAtIBCjMyNDY5ajBqMTWoAgCwAgA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
  24. Your car is basically the same as the Outback drivetrain. This site has lot's of more current info. I was reading about fluids over there the other day. https://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/
