  1. Spotted a grey GT turning onto Reston Parkway and then Fairfax Cty Parkway in VA the other day. Had a handi plate... which one of you old guys was it!? lmao (disclaimer: not making fun of folks with handicaps). I was in the black N/A with the Shenandoah Parks plate. I usually don't post spotted, but its a rare occurrence in this crowd. Don't care for FB groups so not joining/checking there.
  2. The above reasons are why I'm steering clear of Tesla and EVs. great stock though I may have to put my dreams on hold for another round on the cars.. wife absolutely hates the Highlander and I feel guilty for putting her in it and getting rid of the FXT (yes, I know the Highlander isn't much bigger and is safe and reliable lol). Impulse/panic decision a year ago. I'd love to put her in a subcompact luxury suv. I really like Volvo XC60s and BMW X3 m40is. The XC60 T8 is their hybrid model and would be nice for work travel. I've been seeing some good things about the latest Acura RDX but don't know anyone that owns one or have even seen one out and about. She would be happy back in an FXT though.. so might just go back that route in a year lol those seat bolsters though . The idea of the Outback XT is nice, but neither of us can get past the plastic cladding and hideous wheels. Speaking of Audis.. the RS6 Avant is to die for. Wish I had 6 figures laying around lmao
  3. There was another member on here who had a STI 6MT swap that sold theirs in the past year or so on here. Didn't find the post with a quick search, but you could probably find it. I don't recall what the deal ended up at. IMO, you might be able to fetch at the higher range with those miles due to the no rust factor. Comes down to finding the right buyer.
  4. It's always tough to stick to your guns the budget. $500 becomes a slippery slope, so good on you. The dealer likely knows someone will buy it, and if you haven't dealt with them in the past or have a shared connection, they have no personal incentive to get the keys in your hand. I'd love to own that Cummins of yours... I go back and forth between saving for a new truck and buying a cheap proj car.. or getting a farm truck and bringing home a go fast or luxury vehicle. That beast would top me on the latter.
  5. What brand/retailer did you end up going with? The TRQ ball joints and hubs are cheap... but i know other brands on Rockauto are more commonly discussed here.
  6. Wow. Now I'm going to be looking all around when I get under there lol although I'm in the rust belt, I don't anticipate the same levels as from further up north. Will be ordering parts today... vibrations seem to be increasing and a little bit of drift has begun. We'll see if I have to tap out as well once I get knee deep. My neighbor is a mechanic so I might need to extend some neighborly IOUs for some help. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
  7. Happy New Year! After watching a video on YT, it was clearer to me on leaving the ball joint when replacing the hub. The hub seems pretty easy actually, even if you need to bang the hell out of it to remove the old one. With that said, I'm pretty sure my ball joints are rough anyway.. I like the idea of just replacing the entire knuckle. Nice and clean, for minimal cost. Pretty easy to leverage the LCA compared to the rest of the assembly.
  8. My '08 Impreza and current '13 legacy have always been pretty road noise susceptible. Even my coworker's '18 STI felt pretty raw. part of what makes them fun, but some noise dampening is always nice lol Legacy isn't as bad because of the size. my 08 felt like a tin can for sure. drove a '17XT for a year, and that wasn't as bad probably due to height. Got to ride in the BMW X7 a couple of times with the alecantra interior and double paned acoustic glass with airbag suspension... 80mph on crappy DC highways felt like gliding on a quiet lake. Luxury costs, but delivers Now I can't get it out of my head.
  9. My front left Wheel Hub/bearing needs replaced...not looking forward to this at all. When I had my LCA bushings replaced I ended up taking it to a shop to do. Cost an extra $150 in labor because even with their professional tools and experience, they had to fight the hell out of it.
  10. Goodluck getting one for 8k my friend in HS had one and put a shit ton of miles on it after graduating when he was driving from base in GA up to PA at least once a month. Even with that sign on bonus, the mechanical repairs ultimately won out before he dumped it
  11. When do y'all replace your tires? Sitting at 5/32nds on 3 and 6/32nds on 1 tire (had it replaced 9k miles after new set installed so I expected slightly more tread on 1). I know technically the legal limit is 2/32, but just because that's the min doesn't make it right and/or safe for road conditions. Kinda like house building codes.. minimal is best? (cheap). I'm leaning towards 3/32, but am tempted to do sooner at 4/32 due to potential loss in wet road performance. Am curious what the fellow 5th geners use as rule of thumb. As an aside to that, the tires I have from tire rack state a 70,000 mile treadlife warranty. Anyone have any luck actually getting a prorate discount on their tires? I'm at just shy of 50k on this set.. so honestly they will probably make it to 70k if going all the way to 2/32, but would like to gain some info for the future on that tire policy based on prior experience.
  12. yeah lol the entire engine bay has me sad clowning as I look around. Surprisingly underneath the body wasn't awful though, tbh. Aside from the exhaust system everything looked decent. I have always made it a point to either hose off or do the touchless car wash under spray after snow/salt weeks. I imagine that makes a huge difference over the life of the vehicle. But the pitting in question is within the filter's seal ring. so idk if the oil had burned too hot in the past? Or perhaps the 6ish months a few years back when it experienced higher than normal oil consumption it ran low for too long a couple of times before I was able to pick up a quart. Even before this oil change, the light came on and i had to top off for a couple of weeks til i had the time to change. makes me sad, man. To keep with the thread, made the garage tidy and pulled both vehicles in, avoiding the 3-4 inches of snow and layer of sleet/ice that followed. YAY! Made this too expensive of a house worth it for the winter The cold drafts... not so much.
  13. Shop vacced and baby seat install.. Oil change and fumoto install. Been 1yr- 4k miles since last one. Havent done it myself in a couple years. Forgot how far it arcs out.. always put cardboard down! Saved my garage floor lol also looks like some pitting at 12 o'clock on the filter cup. Any idea on that? Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
  14. Congrats on the upgrade. The summary you gave is the exact reason I'm so hesitant to pick up a GT as a daily. As great as this gen Legacy is, its just an older gen lol Love the white. Grey is my preferred because it hides dirt better Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
  15. wholly revival, batman lol. Covid has significantly reduced the amount of miles I've put on the car... so I've literally done none of the things I've laid out in my initial post edit.. okay I guess I did put some high mileage additive in a few fill ups haha it did seem to make it run smoother, but could have just been placebo.
  16. Drove mine for the first time in a couple of weeks since I went into the office. A little bit of shaking for the first 1/2 mile. I know the wheel bearing was identified previously as making some noise. Guess I'll dive into that next year sometime lol
  17. Been a year and just shy of 3k miles lol but want to keep her healthy so some new juice. Will probably be either the last or 2nd to last change she gets from me.. Got the fumoto valve as well, naturally when I won't benefit from it very much lol Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
  18. Subaru's eyesight was pretty decent, I just don't like additional beeping lol there may be settings to modify it. The Highlander is much worse of a system. I need to change the lane assist settings to be more mild. I think they are set to maximum correction by default.
  19. Owning a Brat would be cool regardless, but getting hype for Cyberpunk has me dreaming of buying a junker and making this beast. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
  20. touche lol the extra couple of grand for the parts and known owner is worth it to me. Some of the cheaper ones I've seen listed seem pretty sus.
  21. <- me right now seeing all of the OGs wanting to offload their GTs. My plan is to get something next fall. I kinda want to see what the next gen STI is going to deliver. But I know my wife would like a nicer/smaller SUV than the Highlander, which means less money for me to spend on my toys. If y'all still got 'em through next Summer, I'll be waiting in the bushes of love.
  22. Damn I'm jelly. For me I like Red, Yellow, or Black on a Black car. Everyone's preference is diff. I've actually considered going a dark Purple as well
  23. What dont I need a truck for? seriously though, I bought a house in Feb and I've got my list of things. I've borrowed a truck about 6 times already and although I could get by with some friends and super nice neighbors, I'm not about that reliance. With the family growing, I'd like camping to be an activity we do every year driving out to the mountains in VA somewhere new to explore. An SUV could handle it, but I'd use the truck a lot more. Hindsight 20/20, but if I knew everything was going to get shutdown and we'd both be WFH and not traveling to see fam with the baby, I would have never pushed the wife and myself to buy the Highlander soon after closing late Feb. We took a loss on the FXT trade in too. Live and Learn. I'd probably have my truck right now... You'd be surprised what I fit in the Highlander since then As the guy driving past me in the HD parking lot yelled as I was cutting 3 drywall sheets down into 3ft sections, "You need a truck!"... My biggest item would be the tranny. I had bad luck with Ford in that regard back in 2005-2010ish when working with my Uncle and Cousin's businesses. We also rode them hard. The EcoBoost does have rave reviews, so if the 10sp (even if a little laggy) is more reliable then I would def consider it. I'll end up driving them all though before deciding. No midsize for me anymore with the house. If I was still in a townhouse or city then for sure a Taco. The fullsize w/ crew cab would be great for the dog and kiddo in the back too.
