  1. Humble - you should do the quad brake light mod (to turns the trunk positions into position/brakes like the tailights). Its one of the best bang for the buck and functionality mods that can be done to these cars re brake/stop lights. Tritons (latest gen or older) are good but you could've just gone with these VLEDs instead and gotten 4 to cover all locations at the same cost, with almost identical output and less wiring and socket clutter (280 for below vs 300 for Triton V6 Acculumen) : http://www.vleds.com/shop-bulb-numbers/7443/7443-6-r.html and these for turn signals all around: http://www.vleds.com/shop-bulb-numbers/7443/7443-6-hv-a.html
  2. That tailight pic was farmed from Japanese sites first reporting it about a day or two before this side of the pond woke up. I'm merely speculating in true troll fashion! But in this case its very likely. Vanilla and HT CVTs paired with FAs and FBs in all models across the lineup will be the only game in town (at least as soon as they kill of the EJ and EZ late next year).
  3. Quick!... whoever lined up for an Ascent, cancel your pre-orders, deposits, trade-ins and step across to the 2019 Forester XT. It's the hatch the aging LGT and STI crowd has been waiting for, lmao Same FA24DIT (oohhh aaahhh), lower curb weight (aka better power to weight ratio), same 'much bettha' gen3 HT-CVT or a day-1 STI 6MT swap (for those who like to row their own), obligatory CoBB OTS Stage 1 tune - and you're ready to walk STIs and smoke WRX. All while still sporting multiple child seats, ski racks, trailer hitches galore! On second thought, no 3rd row 7 seater, forget it. Doesnt make the cut.

  5. This. Is it optimal? Far from, but the Hitachi-ECU knock prevention strategy is setup such that it will handle AKI87, low quality fuel.... it just won't be too happy about it. In fact the FA16DIT, FA20DITs are not happy when running E10 AKI91 either and not too thrilled with E10 AKI93 either. E0 AKI93 or E0 AKI95 would be better, but practical use of those is harder than finding a 2012 USDM LGT. The only way to keep FKC and FLKC at bay and RC to stop constantly mocking around with IAM on these cars is a good tune combined with some type of higher E blend (say E30 or E50 or something). Not something I'd personally consider though. E0 AKI93 or E10 AKI93 and deal with the PKC, FKC/FLKC and IAM fluctuations. So long as AF error and Boost error look reasonable, its just the way these cars handle knock sensor input.

  8. I give you your little friends: 4060638 is ideal, pairs best with a shiny new OE tensioner pulley. 4060640 is ok, but a tad loose. Passable for stock crank pulley. 4060642 is too loose for both, even though its OE spec and length. Within spec Subaru, right...
  9. Its perfectly fine on most non-boosted 3.6Rs. You can continue to use it if you choose. No issue with seals on most cars that have it installed either. The belt itself is interesting because at it turns out there are at least three (slightly longer/shorter) part numbers that fit the car. Both OE and aftermarket. I've gone with the slightly shorter belt and replaced the tensioner pulley while at it. Stock pulley is best, wish we had a Fluidmpr option but my buddies in West NY don't want to play nice and likely will never develop it for this engine.

  11. Nothing compared to city and suburb light pollution (usually a function of bad urban architecture and lighting design and excessive use of flood lights in the name of a false sense of safety). I'm all for seeing the milky way, star formations and planets as you can still do away from civilization and our ancestors did just a few short centuries ago, but we're doing in wrong and this would be a drop in the bucket of wrong.

  15. Actually the Boxer Diesel was a major failure across European markets where cars equipped with that engine (mainly Legacy Wagons, some Outbacks) were sold. So much so that Subaru scrapped R&D work for a successor, in part do to mechanical issues, in part due to Euro-6 emission standards and beyond.

However if we're going to assume a linear drivetrain loss (which itself is a gross approximation), you should use the following for recent/current-gen Subarus: MT Subaru: 19-20% loss AT/CVT Subaru: 30-31% loss On a good inertia/load-bearing dyno that gives raw wTQ and calc's wHP as its function, a 300bhp MT Subaru should put down ~ 240whp. A current-gen 6MT WRX should put down ~220whp. For an equivalent CVT Subaru to make the same 300bhp at the crank, it would need to put down ~210whp. Or conversely (and I think this makes more common sense), the same 300bhp engine mated to a 6MT SAWD Subaru vs a 5EAT/HTCVT SAWD Subaru will produce 240 or 210whp respectively.
  17. Exactly, you missed the sarcastic tone lost in the interwebs text post. Although as usual every gen or other gen, there is currently a mass exodus of current gen WRX/STi, Legacy owners to VAG, Ford, Honda, Kia, Jeep, BMW, etc. Maybe just a sign of the times. Many of these have not experienced the flaws or issues seen with the other brands (especially last decade or so) and think the grass is greener or tastes unlike grass, until they learn otherwise from personal experience. German 'luxury' lol, yeah maybe in the 60s/70s when the various German brands were still designed, engineered and manufactured in West Germany. Today its all junk with built in obsolescense and more gagets and creature comforts than car. The Cupra above is just what Subaru should be selling using Subaru tech, but never will.

  19. Thanks for sharing! Our MRT buddies from Oz, one of the first tuner shops around the globe that tuned the VA WRX and Levorg back in early 2014. Now that the current-gen RS production is ending or over I guess more of these will become track-only toys... or just fade into automotive history like the first gen STs and RSs last years ago.

  23. Hair dryer on hot and high via the high beam socket with the position light and/or low beam removed. Vaccum cleaner rigged to attach to same socket for 30-90 minutes. Or crack them open, silica gel packs all along the bottom below the reflector and a fresh layer or retrofitsource butyl rubber or latest and greatest sealant. If all else fails, new assemblies.
