  1. This. Is it optimal? Far from, but the Hitachi-ECU knock prevention strategy is setup such that it will handle AKI87, low quality fuel.... it just won't be too happy about it. In fact the FA16DIT, FA20DITs are not happy when running E10 AKI91 either and not too thrilled with E10 AKI93 either. E0 AKI93 or E0 AKI95 would be better, but practical use of those is harder than finding a 2012 USDM LGT. The only way to keep FKC and FLKC at bay and RC to stop constantly mocking around with IAM on these cars is a good tune combined with some type of higher E blend (say E30 or E50 or something). Not something I'd personally consider though. E0 AKI93 or E10 AKI93 and deal with the PKC, FKC/FLKC and IAM fluctuations. So long as AF error and Boost error look reasonable, its just the way these cars handle knock sensor input.
  2. Either one is fine. Replace both per axle, if not too cost prohibitive.
  3. Fiona can use these new Continental belts too Just different size. Guaranteed +10WHP on top of E99 tune lol
  4. I give you your little friends: 4060638 is ideal, pairs best with a shiny new OE tensioner pulley. 4060640 is ok, but a tad loose. Passable for stock crank pulley. 4060642 is too loose for both, even though its OE spec and length. Within spec Subaru, right...
  5. Its perfectly fine on most non-boosted 3.6Rs. You can continue to use it if you choose. No issue with seals on most cars that have it installed either. The belt itself is interesting because at it turns out there are at least three (slightly longer/shorter) part numbers that fit the car. Both OE and aftermarket. I've gone with the slightly shorter belt and replaced the tensioner pulley while at it. Stock pulley is best, wish we had a Fluidmpr option but my buddies in West NY don't want to play nice and likely will never develop it for this engine.
  6. Driver's side door stickers photo needed. It will identify the HT-CVT mated to the FA24DIT.
  7. Nothing compared to city and suburb light pollution (usually a function of bad urban architecture and lighting design and excessive use of flood lights in the name of a false sense of safety). I'm all for seeing the milky way, star formations and planets as you can still do away from civilization and our ancestors did just a few short centuries ago, but we're doing in wrong and this would be a drop in the bucket of wrong.
  8. Why hasn't anyone thought of doing this earlier (especially last 5-10 years with the advancements in industrial LED tech): http://media.techeblog.com/images/illuminated-traffic-light-poles.jpg
  9. All the EE20 and EE20 DPF info you may ever want from your friendly EU Subaru hacker crew (getting further off topic from Ascent): Soot Accumulation Ratios, DPF Regen cycles, DPF Light Patches, Oil Dilution Rates and all. How exciting. https://subdiesel.wordpress.com/boxer-diesel/ee20-engine-info/ https://subdiesel.wordpress.com/ecu-analysis/dpf-management/ Back on topic though - Ascent is bound to make wide use of Subaru's Enhanced OBDII implementation. What Subaru Diesel Crew outlined below will become important with anyone hoping to monitor/log useful data from their Ascent as Subaru depricated SSM and gone full ape s... over E-OBDII in the newer Hitachi ECU/TCU vehicles. That is unless COBB decides to throw in a towel with AP support for the Ascent (doubtful) because they're already doing exactly that (E-OBDII over CAN sniffing for the 2015+ WRX): https://subdiesel.wordpress.com/generic/protocols/extended-obd-ii/
  10. You can always pickup the OE Denso MAF off Amazon or elsewhere for ~ $72 new... works even better than the rebranded Subaru part no. https://www.amazon.com/Denso-DAC197-6130-Mass-Flow-Sensor/dp/B004J378G8
  11. Actually the Boxer Diesel was a major failure across European markets where cars equipped with that engine (mainly Legacy Wagons, some Outbacks) were sold. So much so that Subaru scrapped R&D work for a successor, in part do to mechanical issues, in part due to Euro-6 emission standards and beyond.
  12. Yes, covertrussian. However if we're going to assume a linear drivetrain loss (which itself is a gross approximation), you should use the following for recent/current-gen Subarus: MT Subaru: 19-20% loss AT/CVT Subaru: 30-31% loss On a good inertia/load-bearing dyno that gives raw wTQ and calc's wHP as its function, a 300bhp MT Subaru should put down ~ 240whp. A current-gen 6MT WRX should put down ~220whp. For an equivalent CVT Subaru to make the same 300bhp at the crank, it would need to put down ~210whp. Or conversely (and I think this makes more common sense), the same 300bhp engine mated to a 6MT SAWD Subaru vs a 5EAT/HTCVT SAWD Subaru will produce 240 or 210whp respectively.
  13. Exactly, you missed the sarcastic tone lost in the interwebs text post. Although as usual every gen or other gen, there is currently a mass exodus of current gen WRX/STi, Legacy owners to VAG, Ford, Honda, Kia, Jeep, BMW, etc. Maybe just a sign of the times. Many of these have not experienced the flaws or issues seen with the other brands (especially last decade or so) and think the grass is greener or tastes unlike grass, until they learn otherwise from personal experience. German 'luxury' lol, yeah maybe in the 60s/70s when the various German brands were still designed, engineered and manufactured in West Germany. Today its all junk with built in obsolescense and more gagets and creature comforts than car. The Cupra above is just what Subaru should be selling using Subaru tech, but never will.
  14. Too bad VAG doesn't offer Seat's newly formed 'Cupra' sub-brand on this side of the pond and north of the border/wall. Otherwise, perhaps all those considering the Ascent might instead defect to this alternative (like the WRX/STI crowd is defecting to Golf Rs, RSs, Type Rs, etc) CUPRA ATECA @ 2.0L DIT, 300bhp, 8/9-speed DSG, adaptive all-wheel drive, etc. (and great towing capability lol) https://www.motor1.com/news/233851/cupra-ateca-officially-revealed/ http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=262603&stc=1&d=1519951671.jpg
  15. Thanks for sharing! Our MRT buddies from Oz, one of the first tuner shops around the globe that tuned the VA WRX and Levorg back in early 2014. Now that the current-gen RS production is ending or over I guess more of these will become track-only toys... or just fade into automotive history like the first gen STs and RSs last years ago.
  16. Not me but a fellow JDM Legacy owner... Original post: http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5763202&postcount=72 (and no, I dont know what head-unit)
  17. You should've seen her after 30 miles of Vermont gravel and snowmobile roads (snow, ice, mud, dirt, dust, etc) used to reach dog sledding races, followes by 400+ miles highway, oh wait...

  19. Hair dryer on hot and high via the high beam socket with the position light and/or low beam removed. Vaccum cleaner rigged to attach to same socket for 30-90 minutes. Or crack them open, silica gel packs all along the bottom below the reflector and a fresh layer or retrofitsource butyl rubber or latest and greatest sealant. If all else fails, new assemblies.
  20. Oh you're old Timmy, especially for those #becauseracecar WRX/STI kids. Dude, like nearly too old to own a Subaru bruh! And as inconceivable as it may be, many of us still on here are *sigh* even much 'older-er' (highly technical term, loosely equivalent to can't compute old).
  21. Yeah, its a fairly decent looking GM re-badge of the Opel Insignia Kombi (aka Sport Tourer), best had in OPC trim (should be out next year or so) with the proper engine (hopefully they actually bring it across the pond this time around - unlike the 1st gen Buick Regal GS Turbo, which was a watered down and extra-heavy cut of the Insignia OPC). Too bad the new one doesn't get the great EDM spec headlights, being 'luxury' and all. http://www.autobild.de/artikel/opel-insignia-sports-tourer-2017-11279999.html
  22. As much as I respect law enforcement and couldn't care less if they stopped or screened me 1 or 1,000 times (got nothing to hide) - above still doesn't explain why its a clear double standard... regular citizens' cars - no tint, many cops' private cars (while off duty aka basically also regular citizens) - limo or 20 tint on all windows including windshield... not to mention rampant speeding in said cars (#becausefriendsdontpulloverfriends). Of course this doesnt apply to all cops, but in the TriState - many too many! 50 or 60 tint all-around on an aging Subaru, beater CamCorrd, new Stinger, etc must be safer than limo tint on the rear windshield in a Charger or an Escalade (with shotguns pointed at the patrol car tailgating the Escalade). Yet the former tint config is now illegal, while the later - totally legal. Makes no sense. Either all or nothing. I'm indifferent to tint (although some clear film with UVB/UVA protection goes a long way to keep the interior decent for a decade or more plus helps keep the interior cooler in the summer), just dont agree with lazy bandaid legislation that solves nothing. I'd much rather they revoke registrations for failed brake/shock/tire checks every 12 months, or implement mandatory annual or semi-annual driver tests for seniors (say 65+). Too slow to react or cant see road signs? License revoked, 5 decades was plenty.
  23. Very interesting. Indeed, none of the FA/BA USDM offerings got the stock JDM/ADM CVT cooler (optional on most JDM/ADM FA20DIT equipped cars, stock on WRX S4 tS and S207s), not even as an option. This abomination (EDIT: this here Ascent) most likely will. Said OE aux. CVTF cooler (likely present here too):
  24. Jorge - should've pinged me - plenty of places will still pass you and I know at least three (besides, just look at all the NYPD privately owned cars with limo-tint, including on the front windshield proudly sporting the new grey emissions stickers - awesome double standard boys!) Stupid legislation always gets my blood boiling, including the pointless PR stunt that is vision zero. Instead of cracking down on tint (BTW technically the latest-gen S-class can't legally register in NYS because its stock tint level in the glass is above/beyond the allowable limit) the geniuses in Albany should crack down on other aspects of car inspection that actually have something to do with safety... brakes, shocks (on-car shock testing machines), tire wear, headlight/taillight output. Just like its done (at least on paper) in Europe. Only problem is that would either a. put 80% of the cars on the roads out of commission (public outcry, not too good for them ratings) or b. cost too much to implement and even more to police (so it will never get done) Much better to just impose 15mph speed limits (which won't help anyone if a statistical Darwin-award recipient decides to run a light and run over a kid while doing 50 in a 20/25) but perception is king and speed limits and cheap to implement. Not to mention the various other bs checks at inspection to rack up more 'taxes' when the penalties, fees, tickets start feeding city hall and state budgets. woohoo
