CovertRussian's 05 LGT Build Thread
BarManBean replied to covertrussian's topic in Fourth Generation Legacy (2005 - 2009)
Never ceases to amaze me as to what will make a difference in how these cars run. If you aren't tuning with every mod it's a total crap shoot. Kind of sad really. -
Modern diesels and all the tech that goes he with them scare the piss outta me. Use that warranty up and then time for another new truck!

BulletProof-TMIC Mod - LGT, 08+ WRX

I'm lined up to get material to the shop when I'm back in town middle of this month, they have about a 2-week turnaround. So looking at September timeframe to be shipping again. -
So now you have this insanely fast, purpose-built race kart. Serious question, and I seriously don't know the answer--are you in any way qualified / experienced to drive a car like that? I'm sure that I would do better "in class" in something like a '97 camry. Sure my lap times would be faster in a ferarri, but against other ferarri's I would be bottom tier, where as in the camry I would probably do pretty well compared to others driving camry's. Does that make sense? I guess I'm just wondering what the racing "pedigree" is here that warrants a jump from turbo subaru to race kart (or whatever that thing is called!!!). Maybe I missed it throughout the thread here and I'm trying to catch up, but I thought you were ex-cop gone racer with subaru stuff and now race kart? **that youtube vid looks faster than shit!

Odd. I noticed a fantastic difference when adding those press in rear bushings. My setup already had several other bushings replaced for the trans, shift linkage, etc. Maybe that's the difference. I still think the groupN trans mount was the single largest difference maker, although I never got to install the groupN motor mounts. -

Not sure about purging, but the closed deck design certainly trades cooling capability for increased block strength / cylinder wall strength, yes?

I'm sure that maybe a subie boosted motor isn't the best race motor, but what the hell is going on here? How many motors have you been through now? There really doesn't seem to be any good reason for it other than just sheer bad luck, especially on this last motor that was really supposed to be more or less "the one," right? I'm not trying to pile on here, I just don't see how you haven't had any bit of reliability out of even one of your motors. Also not reading every post here so sorry if I've missed something major. Good luck, whatever you choose!

Sending you a PM. -
You can't reset the transmission learning on your own, can you? ECU stuff is pretty easy, but I thought TCU stuff has to be done at the dealer...?

Not that I'm aware of, unless you had a Legacy shaft and picked up an OBK shaft this time. The carrier bearing has some extra height to it for the OBKs, but you can run either on either car really.

Curious. How do you get the hot tub up there?

"Bullet Proof" TMIC Kits
BarManBean replied to BarManBean's topic in Turbo Powertrains (2.0GT, 2.5GT, 2.5XT)
In general, over the years there have been many members that have been able to fix damaged TMICs with the kits. Unless the separation is so bad that the internal gasket is coming out, I'd venture that it's fixable. THAT SAID, I do not market the kit as a fix for damaged / leaking intercoolers, mostly because I simply can't guarantee that to be the case whereas I can absolutely guarantee that a properly BP'ed TMIC will not develop leaks due to increased boost pressure. I have a slew of emails in my inbox and will get back to everyone in next couple days. If you need anything related to kits just email me at barmanbean@gmail.com. I have a list going of those who still have interest (no obligation necessary) and will provide full kit details / instructions to anyone who wished to try and make their own.
