  1. I saw fweasel's ride parked on North Ave about mid way between La Salle and Halsted and 3 young ladies summarily dressed getting out of the said car. I can neither confirm nor deny Weasel's presence in that car but one of the young ladies kept screaming "He's got the most awesome fingers".
  2. Tradded thumbs up, nods and peace signs with driver of a SICK (in a good way) WR Blue Subaru Forester with lots of mods by the way it sounded. Obligatory and deserved STI badge on the back; the newer model with the re-designed front (obviously not 2009)
  3. I do not have volume issues with iG4. As a matter of fact I have it turned all to max. I am using it with the old CF plugin for which DEST is not working. I had my CarPC out of commission for a few weeks while I replaced the PSU and I noticed the screen/display is no longer as crisp/sharp as before. Same settings, same resolution, same backlight illumination, contrast, frequency (Hz) match for the screen with Win Xp...it just ain't sharp no more. And that seems to be the case ONLY in Centrafuse - if I minimize and open up anythong else, it is all good. And I have NOT touched anything else on the software end.
  4. Yeah I pay for CF. I find the cost ridiculous but at least I am paying for a decent product with constant updates. I bought however the cheapest version - I can use bluetooth with 3rd party embedded software if I wanted not theirs specifically (BUT I am not using a BT anyways, I like my Blackberry the way it is thank you) - and I use iGuidance 4 for navi. The USB vs serial for the GPS is really simple: 1) no hibernation issues (people have worked around that) 2) frees a USB port 3) makes no difference in speed - the amount of info being exchaged is so little in fact the USB port becomes a virtual serial port when you convert it. Basically as you install the USB GPS, you downgrade the USB port to a serial one anyways. I actually have used nLite to add the graphics driver for my new laptop when I upgraded from Vista to XP (ha ha). But i never trimmed it. i still have the Win XP ready for mods on my desktop but i do not know what to do to it. Do you have a reference or a guide of what we can ditch from the installation as far as the Car PC OS goes ?
  5. BU-353 for GPS - you do want a USB one or even better, a serial one. I am using the Windows XP - I think you mean trimming down stuff with nLITE. i installed it full and went ahead and disabled every single useless application and service and uninstalled a bunch of fonts etc but still. i think I reached the hardware limits to boot time. That being said, I was told windows 2000 boots up faster (less graphical) than XP so I will give that a try in the next reiteration of my Car PC. Still on Centrafuse 1.20 - I found it to be the most solid performer. The open source Road Runner needs way too much involvement and a mirirad of applications to get it together.
  6. I am fine. How about you.
  7. Hi. How are you.
  8. I do not think your typical VOOM case fits under the seat BUT the tinier ones (micro atx) actually do. When I will rebuild mine, this is what I will do (outlined above) let us talk OS tweaks and boot time. Mine is horrendous.
  9. you realize the smaller- the hotter it will run and there ain't much ventilation in the glove compartment. EVEN if you go with that, install it under a seat, run wires along the door steps - reason being ventilation 1) from cold air vents under the seat 2) extra benefits from any additional venting holes you would give in the case. That is what I would do anyways.
  10. How stable was version 1.47 ? I am still using the v1.20 which I bought last summer. I am looking to add the WiFi manager but I have not time to mess anything up using a new install. I installed it 1.47 on my laptop and imported the WiFi manager but it does not recognize my wifi card in it and I cannot setup the features wifi button features in 1.20 (not surprisingly, it didn't come with it). So was 1.47 stable and operational ? Does that WiFi mgr do anything ? Can i just install it over my 1.20 ?
  11. I was more after the wireless connections manager in the new version than anything else. I guess I will wait on the upgrade then...This summer I plan to revamp the PC, ditch XP, install a lite Win2000 on a 7200 rpm drive and run away with it. Windows 2000 is still the fastest booter of them all.
  12. GPS does not work after hibernation. Has anyone tried the new Centrafuse ? Should I install it ? Also what is the range of a wireless USB adapter vs a PCI adapter and that of a 802.11b vs the 802.11g ?
  13. Interesting Mod V-Sick. By any means please alaborate. Hibernation never worked for me.
  14. I think I spotted the Weaselmobile at Austin and Foster tonight. Honked twice, waved with my hand out on the window - I was heading east on Foster Ave, he was coming south on Austin. 10 pm
  15. too much too admit. And I am one of the lighter ones (on the engine/suspension side)
  16. I spotted the Meier Motor Sports Mobile this morning on the highway. Meier Motor Sports Mobile spoted the f1mobile this morning on the highway. I guess we spotted each other and even talked across the express-regular lanes concrete divider.
  17. I saw this car 2 days ago at Addison and I-94 in the exact same tuning shape.
  18. Paul, de ce nu mai vii si pe forumul romanesc ? Ti-au dat ban (nu cred, pt ca as fi fost informat) sau care-i treaba ?
  19. Why don't you read up a little. All the info you need is in this thread in terms of hardware and software - especially at the very beginning. . For starters - what is the double din faceplate ? I assume you mean the AVO double din dash kit ? If all you want is playing DVDs, someone else already figured it out how to do it with the OEM Navi. And just get the updated maps. It will be much easier than doing a Car PC. No more than 10 pages ago (p55-65) there were links to double din units - some completely self sufficient (pc + monitor) some just the monitor (flip-out-and-up). Check that out but really I would scroll thru the thread and you surely will get lots and lots of info; links to products and ideas. Or wait, let me guess, someone will ask you to send you a PM and make you buy his products.
  20. Extremely happy with my 65s as per my original thread. An awesome upgrade and have not had any issues in my 1.7 years of ownership of those bulbs. I am planning to upgrade my long beams to the HIRs described in the first post.
  21. You were under the wrong impression. Damn straight , we're the ones stuck with him.
  22. Hating you ? I have no reasons. Warning people against unfair claims (like above where you talked about inferior products and bad customer reviews while suggesting to the poster to contact you privately) - ABSOLUTELY. I could not care less if you have 200 customers from LGT because I am NOT selling a product and you are not my competition. If you think you have made a significant contribution to the Car PC work on the site here (and I disagree with this BTW) and can ease everyone's pains why don't you become a vendor on the site. Then promote your products freely.
  23. Self-Advertising much these days ?
  24. Hibernation will give you trouble when restarting the GPS. For some reason - and this seems to be a problem more so with the BU-353 unit than other serial-to-USB virtual ports the PC is unable to get GPS signal after coming back from hibernation. Of course I also have another serial-to-usb (or maybe it is really usb-to-serial) virtual port for my Enginuity data logging - and with that I do not have issues when restoring from hibernation.
  25. I am using the iguidance plugin within Centrafuse with port 4. I always configure via IG and whatever port the automatic detection finds, then that is what I use.
