  1. Well why don't you try an external video card that outputs to a composite - which you hook up to your factory screen. The downside is that you will need a (more) powerful PC. And you will need an input device like a mouse touchpad or the 3D space navigator from Logitech. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=external+video+card Well I think ought to try fabbing an aftermarket screen into your dash first. Then we talk. Show us please how you mounted your laptop, where you ran your wires, what is your input/control method and so on.
  2. Where do you guys come up with the need of a dual screen ? What are you ? thugs ? gagstas ? wanna show off ? All of us happily run software like Centrafuse or Street Deck or Road Runner and do any combination of buttons. For instance I have the option of having navi with audio controls and display; the option of making the entire screen available for navi ...or for music. Good luck with the price ! When your run-of-the-mill Xenarc is 400 bucks, good luck buying two. Even better luck installing TWO screens in the car. Triple the pleasure by finding room for 2 PCs or rather Navi/Audio units and running dual sets of cables and quadruple it when you end up buying two of everything maybe even 2 licenses for a commercial software. Seriously now, you should look up in the first 20 or so pages to see different setups and the work involved ... then decide if a CARPC is for you or not. It is definitely not something that you say: I am gonna do it. It is NOT an week-end project; you will not be done in a week or two weeks or even a month; you will be responsible for the maintenance and replacement of anything and everything that goes wrong. And if you are not an avid gamer or have major computer expertise; you should probably forget about it and just go with a commercial solution. When your virtual serial port for your GPS will interfere with the virtual port for your touchscreen or touchpad or some other controller as they both use COM5 and when your touchscreen display is slightly off center - you will quickly realize that running a dual screen display at home is not quite the same as running a dual screen display in the car. There was only one car that went ahead with a dual screen; keeping the factory one and adding another one after much hackage of the oem head units and HVAC controls. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82924&page=18&highlight=HighlineCA This project never went anywhere.
  3. Actually in all honesty you all have just regular spec Bs unlike Vimy101's super 2006 Spec B. You ought to read up on it.
  4. Well but this just is engine compartment hot air suckage refined.
  5. It works rather well. I use an older revision from back in the day when i had problems and e-mailed the guy for a small upgrade. I only have 1 screen not the new fancy ones with several extra views. My issues are that sometimes I have to restart the SSM from inside centrafuse, upon restarting from hibernation. It is just sometimes but I could not be bothered. Seriously, if the gauges do not show up, I tap the X in its embedded window then hit "motor" again - all within Centrafuse. 2 finger taps - I can live with it. Hence I did not upgrade to the newest one. my version required some "programming" to display the gauges I wanted but nothing I could not do in 5 min (you had to write the code - for your own gauges if you wanted other parameters than the default ones). A 5 minute job - all i did was replace in an XML file the name and number of the parameter. I use it with the Tactrix 1.3 cable; it did not work with any other cable, including Cobb AP.
  6. Tom (SilverXT); Kamil and Roman (frogmonk) are the part of the Forester mafia.
  7. That would be Bosco. But his is black. Montgomery sounds very right and large scoop again fits right in for a BOSCO spotting.
  8. zzztech13, buddy, what part of Wisconsin do you live in ?
  9. Oh...oh...I did not even know about this...All I can say is - without offering details - I know how tough it is to fight cancer. Sadly, I really do. I wholeheartedly wish you the very best of health and luck and faith in God but also in modern medicine !
  10. I am using the Jazzy with the GLI. I purchased the premium package at the time cause i did not want to take a chance and feel disappointed by the sound, for 25 bucks more only. But I got to say: it was better in the begining. Now I am hearing some static/interference in the system, espec if I am talking on the phone. The funny thing is, my BBerry has such a crappy signal indoors, that I cannot conceive it affects the system....but it does.
  11. I have about 10 seconds lag between key on in ignition and the juice flowing to the CarPC and Screen. The juice comes from the Carnetix P-1900 inverter which is getting feedback from the middle cigarette lighter.
  12. OP ? Original Poster ? seriously Seb, what the hell is it ? Very nice work otherwise, now mass market the product !
  13. I have about 8 Gb of music and that's it. How often do you defrag the carpc ?
  14. i exchanged a few texts with him. But he claimed to have an EVO now..though that seems to be HIS car. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2254703&postcount=1373
  15. Movies in the car FTML !
  16. WHy you need 48 Gb storage is beyond me. Money sink... err CarPC total thus far: Netbook $200 Storage $80. Quit complaining. After 1000 dollars you are entitled. Before that...nope.
  17. i know i wrote down but i cannot find it now but i can certainly tell you what i have going on when i turn it on the next time i am in the car. Just so you know, I never found minlogon to do such an outstanding speed-up job as people have claimed. But it reduces some functionality and it is kind of hard to get back into windows desktop and such. AVG AV will certainly slow it down but do you know what actually slows down the boot time ? W I R E L E S S - especially if you set it up to automatically connect to your network and/or detect networks. If you have an external wireless adapter, do an experiment. It will be 15 seconds difference at least. Also do not forget to turn off in device manager the ports that you do not need/use such as firewire; serial ports etc.
  18. Mine is 37 seconds but went up 10 after I installed the Treehugger thing (to read up engine data). But from hibernation i do 15 seconds.
  19. Why a separate thread ? I centralized ALL the info in one thread so people (noobs) do not have to claim they could not find the info. For the past 2 years this has been the thread where all the info and discussions took place. Decentralizing the info is not productive. Create your own install posts within this thread, I will link it up in the first post.
  20. Nobody in their right mind would choose CF over RR at a cost (mine was 125, no navi engine) if RR does what they want. Unfortunately for me it did not. I tried, there was much tweaking and I could not get it "right". So that is why I chose CF. If RR works for you, more power to you and you just saved yourself a shitload of money. I couldn't. Too many - get your winamp install right to play music issues, many unaligned skins and buttons. The thing with RR, for me, was the suite of separate programs needed to have working and talking together and make it as a package - with RR as a glorified command center. And no, I am no computer illiterate either.
  21. I was gonna say - you take them off. But see Seb also took 7 hrs to install Windows 7 :-)) Centrafuse is everything RR is trying to be. Even Street Deck failed...as MP3CAR now carries it. I am not bashing RR, it can be done nicely and is more versatile than CF but I do not have the will power to tune it.
  22. And whoever does a new install, take plenty of pictures, write your summary install and then let me know so I can update the first post with a link to your installs.
