  1. Well I made it thru a hot summer. Let me see what winter brings. I could live with replacing the hard drive once a year but yes...i would switch to a flash memory at least for the operating system.
  2. straight up from here http://subicarpc.bravehost.com/ Dude this is getting insane. Do you guys know I have 3 pictures of MY car displayed in google when you search 2005 Subaru Legacy GT ?
  3. I am happy with my Carnetix PSU (1900 series I believe). Can be upgraded to have a 12 V, a 19 V and a 5 V output (separately) for up to 165 Watt (I think). I am "using" half. But the higher the wattage, the cooler it will run. I would always try and calculate (ex. laptop runs at 19 V x 3.5 Amps + monitor 12V x 2.0 Amps + USB Hub 5 V x 1.5 Amps = 98 Watts. A 100 W would be insufficient. A 120 W would be cutting close. A 150 W would be ok)
  4. Guys, you all suck when it comes to HD. You should have picked a 60 Gb hard drive like me ! My hole shit is running off a laptop which is mounted vertically thus the reading needle isn't tapping on the hard drive when going over bumps. And the laptop is encased in a ...case with foam all around. Ghetto...but does the job.
  5. BMAC; is the new IG4 worth the upgrade ? Besides reading street names and some more POIs, what else is there ? Can one use the plugin made by the folks on mp3 car dot com with the new version. Last I checked, it was not working. Right now I am using that plugin with IG3 and I am unwilling to change a setup that works well.
  6. 1) Jazzy Board - has its own topic, easier on 07 and newer since they got an aux-in already 2) front end software like Centrafuse and Streetdeck (commercially available) or hard work and sacrifice Road Runner (free, user customizable)
  7. Yeah BMAC, that's the thing. I just had member send me a PM about doing the bezel work for him. I hesitate to give an answer, since the fabrication work is so long...and I may need the car here for fittings. People do not understand the time involved in making the bezel.
  8. The 06-07 ones. If the projector headlamps are not identical, then they are very similar and I am sure the internals are the same.
  9. Hey Fishbone, what do you actually want ? Bertter contrast and visibility during inclement weather ? Gotta go yellow for that - replace the "fog lights" and maybe even re-align them to further light up the road ahead (as much as possible) Your GT got low beam HIDs ? We do not have that as OEM; just some phillips bulbs. But people have installed with great success...and the latest STIs have pretty much same hgeadlights and HIDs. That being said, i sport OSRAM Rally +65W bulbs and I am pretty happy with them: I avoid the HID shine in wet yet I see farther up the road and more lumens on the asphalt...
  10. BMAC, you gotta consider side jobs...seriously...
  11. I have a Pentium 3 Mobile and 512 MB RAM in a Toshiba laptop that serves as my PC. It handles everything quite well. I use iGuidance 3 and Centrafuse. i have built extra fans for cooling the cpu and drilled extra holes in the laptop plastics.
  12. Errr dude...where are you gonna keep a desktop in the car ? Most of us either bought the special automotive - spec PCs as sold by MP3CAR or others (or built their own enclosures but same internals) or run it off a laptop. The space contraints are pretty severe...and again, we are dealing with massive power consumption... While I got no doubt the desktop power source converts down from 110 V to something else - maybe 19V or thereabouts, I am quite certain the desktop mobos use more electricity, generate more heat etc. That 2.7 GHz 1Gb RAM is overkill. Unless playing QUAKE in the car. Laptop hard drives are meant to take shocks. Because laptops are not always used in a stationary flat surface environment. They can also run vertically. Desktop HDD may prove unreliable in an automotive environment.
  13. Hold it. That setting allows you to get more screen space for the IG3 when using the maximize window feature. To be exact...when you hit IG3 on the touchscreen, it will embed it. At the top there will be the music song display, then the IG3 buttons - dest, view, menu, maximize (right hand corner) and at the button the music buttons (rew, pause-play, fwd). With my setting, when you hit maximize, you get just the IG3 window. there are ways to cover the info panel at the bottom of the IG3 window but I did not want that. You just keep messing with the window size of that plugin and you get what you want. But here it is - in unclear pictures...what I mean:
  14. Actually here it is this is the relevant code for modifing the position of the ig window within the skin: <APPX>0</APPX> <APPY>51</APPY> <APPWIDTH>848</APPWIDTH> <APPHEIGHT>270</APPHEIGHT> <FULLAPPX>0</FULLAPPX> <FULLAPPY>51</FULLAPPY> <FULLAPPWIDTH>848</FULLAPPWIDTH> <FULLAPPHEIGHT>353</FULLAPPHEIGHT>
  15. I can send you my customized plugin if you so desire. Mine still displays the ETA, speed, etc but when maximized - there are no music buttons. To get back to that - I have to minimize the display (max and min - imize are used to describe the size of the iguidance window within centrafuse - NOT in the windows meaning).
  16. I have a setting for CF to give more screen space to IG3 ! You have to go in the plugin settings and change some parameters (easy enough in notepad) and upon maximizing, the music buttons (play, pause, fwd, rew) disappear and IG3 covers that space as well.
  17. Jazzy, what are the chances of me purchasing one of your kits for a 2005 Legacy (non-turbo) and getting it in Chicago overnight ?
  18. I tell you what...I wouldn't wanna be cruising around with an Airbag Warning Light. The entire design group from Fuji Heavy Industries may wanna try and convince me otherwise...I am still gonna plug the ORIGINAL piece in...somewhere, somehow.
  19. I made my own clock relocation kit. Pictures at the begining of the thread. Plan for the Ground Loop Isolator to be added easily at a later time if or when the sound quality will no longer correspond - in such fashion that you would not have to remove carpet, door trim, rear seats again.
  20. Fun with Centrafuse That one shows PARTIAL delete because I yanked the flash drive out of the USB hub. The computer I s'pose is doing its job to be safe from Crabs, Chlamydia, Syphilis and other venereal diseases. But wtf mates...that looks like a pre-packaged threat.
  21. Actually I have the GLI from Jazzy and there is a noticeable drop in volume compared to CD
  22. The problem is not the IG3 but rather the BU-353 GPS. I came across it on mp3car .com and they just offered 2 solutions....one is some software called "hybernate" (spelling) and the other is switching to a serial connector GPS. It seems it is a problem with most GPS units but ours is notorious. We could try upgrading the drivers - i am still using the one that shipped with the box. If you find newer drivers, do you mind sharing ?
  23. I bought Centrafuse over the week-end but I have not been able to register for that machine since their stupid server didn't work. I e-mailed tech support. Sebbery, your skin looks awesome...I just wished it had red rather than blue...to match the rest of teh dashboard. And besides, your OBK is red.
