2007-2009 Spec.B Production Numbers
silverton replied to Alphius's topic in Fourth Generation Legacy (2005 - 2009)
That's just how model year production works. 2008's would have started being built in September or October of 2007. -
You should get in touch with Subaru of America. That dealership should be on the line for not fixing your car.

Panasonic did for awhile, but those are the batteries that generally regarded as gunk. they have the opaque white sides.

scraping metal and a helicopter sound... almost definitely the throwout against the pressure plate -

silverton replied to rjnakata's topic in Third Generation Legacy (1999 - 2004)
Yeah the sound I heard from mine seemed to be coming from the front/middle too, does it happen in neutral or only while in gear? you do have a manual so it could be your throwout or pilot bearings. -
I know they're konigs! i have a picture of the label inside the barrel but it doesn't do me any good with a google search they came with the car just running stock tire size 205/55r16's, has DWS06's on it now.

*mumbles to himself about stupid prius' owner who could have just pulled forward out of their spot but backed up into my passenger door instead* (assuming original 200k miles suspension) (h&r sport springs with gr2's)

cylinder 4 compression test?
silverton replied to rrobe99999's topic in Turbo Powertrains (2.0GT, 2.5GT, 2.5XT)
No tricks, just stick the hose end in there and keep twisting til you catch a thread, it's certainly a mild PITA. -
I run gr2's and h&r sports on my gen 3 legacy and love it, the ride and the look are great. I want to get h&r sports for my gen 6

stock with a stage 1 tune? You're not even close to needing an air oil separator. Grab one of those when you start pushing 30+psi and making more than 500whp. I'd imagine you have a leak, as the smell will rise from the engine and into the hvac intake, if you're smelling burning oil from the exhaust, that means exhaust is getting in the cabin and you're probably slowly killing yourself.

I know this is gonna sound crazy but..... muffler bearings. In all seriousness, the internals of the muffler are likely falling apart. had it happen on my third gen almost immediately after getting the transmission rebuilt. and I hear it all the time on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen foresters. I don't know why the foresters so much. -
Headlights too bright???
silverton replied to caddygti16v's topic in Seventh Generation Legacy (2020 - )
If you want to get into the science of headlight aim, this article is a good read. https://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/aim/aim.html too long didn't read; find a level space with a flat wall that you have 25 feet (~2 maybe 2.5 car lengths) you can back straight away from. Practically put the front bumper against the wall and mark the brightest point of each headlight beam with a piece of tape, now backup that 25 feet and adjust your headlights to their respective tape marks you put on the wall. -
96 Legacy wagon GT-B steering racking?
silverton replied to KhCombs90's topic in Second Generation Legacy (1994 - 1998)
The 'steering gear box' (aka steering rack, steering gear, rack & pinion) is completely unrelated to your drive train where the differentials are. I dont know that an impreza rack will necessarily work in your legacy, but I do know people swap in STi racks so they all must be mostly the same as far as mounting, most likely difference is going to be the inner tie rod length for track width and how many turns lock to lock. Legacy's generally have what I'd call 'lazy' racks; so it takes more turns to go lock to lock which makes cruising on the freeway nice, STi racks have a faster ratio and would be much more 'twitchy' -
Headlights too bright???
silverton replied to caddygti16v's topic in Seventh Generation Legacy (2020 - )
I noticed this when I was an express tech at the dealer when the '20's started rolling out. many of them from the factory had the headlights pointed way too high. It was enough of them I thought it should be some sort of TSB or recall, but I was ignored. -
06 LL Bean - vibration when braking
silverton replied to MilktownBoodle's topic in Fourth Generation Legacy (2005 - 2009)
might start looking at suspension bushings, specifically in the forward control arms. -
In the highbeams of my third gen. third gen uses the low beam for DRL so they are never on unless I want them to be. It's my girlfriends car now.
-
https://www.headlightrevolution.com/9005-gtr-lighting-csps-mini-PF1.9005_2?quantity=1 I put these in the highbeams of my third gen a couple years ago, I used them as much as I could when it was my daily driver, they're god damn laser beams and I would win every high beam fight.

the modules get all sorts of wonky when the voltage gets to a certain point. try a 'cap discharge'; disconnect the negative and hold it to the positive for an arbitrary 30 seconds. when you go for the first start after the reconnection it should crank longer than you expect it to, and then let the vehicle idle with ZERO loads, no lights no hvac etc, for 20 minutes.
