Yeah, gonna have to wait a bit to see how it sounds. :p

Hoping to get a good bit of wiring work done tomorrow. I'm getting really close to being able to start testing sensors and circuits on the MS. Still have to pick up a tuning laptop though.... getting our taxes done Saturday, so barring any rude surprises, I plan to get serious about computer shopping next week. That's really the last thing I need to buy.

Made a gasket for the downpipe to midpipe joint, and painted the tip. Exhaust is bolted in for the last time (I hope!) for a while...

Pic of the complete exhaust I couldn't Photobucket to upload last night...

I also got the relay box mounted and wires tidied up on the pax side...

Feels like it's gaining a little momentum now...

Got the chassis harness all tidied up an loomed. Then I threw the dash back in for a check fit on the IP wiring...

All the stuff hanging down by the steering column is now bundled properly and tucked up out of sight.

Also got the wideband O2 sensor installed, and wiring run through the firewall, and started sorting which MS3 wires need to go through the firewall and which don't... looks like I didn't need to extend the MS3 wiring after all... :p

The newest laptop I own is at least 15 years old, so I've got a basic laptop arriving today for tuning, and a tuning cable coming from DiYAutotune (can't believe I forgot to order that). Hoping to get most of the MS3 wiring done tomorrow.... we'll see if SWMBO will leave me alone in the garage that long... :D

Finished up the MS3 harness connections to the engine harness.... and of course, I ended up cutting off all the extensions I spent hours soldering on, because it turned out the short harness was the perfect length for where I ended up mounting the MS3.

Cut to length, loomed and pins crimped on for the connectors:

The wires at the top are for power, ground, wideband, and a couple of IP leads... still have to make those connections, but the connectors on the engine side are on...

Got the new laptop, and my tuning cable should be here Monday. Still need to download Tunerstudio. If sensor testing goes well, I could be looking at trying to start this thing next weekend.

No pics today, but the MS3 and wideband are wired in.

And that means that the wiring is DONE!* :D :D :D

*with the exception of a couple of small things, which I don't really need to get the car running, like the triggering switch for offline logging.

Do you happen to have soft top latches? I think mine are fubar and not getting the top closed enough as I have massive wind noise from the seal where the top closes at the top of the windshield.

I do, but I'll be using them with a Project G bikini top I picked up for when I'm not running the hard top.

Have you tried Treasure Coast Miata? They usually have decent used parts, and their prices aren't terrible.

I used them for the headlight I needed, I might check and see what their prices are. Last time shipping was a killer though.

Also make sure you take a video of it firing up for the first time!

Well, frustration is the word of the day...

Got almost everything done... jacking up the car to do some stuff underneath and the jack slides off the crossmember, dragging against the crank pulley. Broke a chunk out of the front lip of the pulley, broke the crank position sensor and driver's side (main) cooling fan...

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

35+ f*cking years working on cars/trucks, and I've never had one fall off the jack while raising it.

So, that's ~$300 in parts I need to order, and no way I'll have it fired over the weekend...:mad:

Turns out I can only use 20 images in a post... that's not enough 'mad'...

Crank pulley carnage:

So, new crank pulley and crank position sensor are ordered, as is a used fan assembly from fleaBay.

Yesterday I got the trans filled, and finished bleeding the clutch.

I also started testing the MS3 inputs and outputs. Everything is working as expected, except the crank signal... which I guess was expected. I may have missed a setting, so I'm going to check again and see if I can get a crank signal.

And I have one dead fuel injector. The other three were slow to get started, not surprising in a motor that has sat for over a year. I also remember dropping one when I was tearing the motor down, so that may have damaged the one that's not working. Or it may just be stuck. I tried tapping on it, but no joy.

Checking prices on injectors, I found I could get a set of four cleaned/ flow balanced used injectors for the price of one new one. Since the manifold has to come off to swap the injector, I figured I might as well replace them all so I pulled the trigger on a set.

So, now it looks like next weekend for the first start, assuming all the parts show up...

Don't feel too bad. My 350Z had a failure yesterday. Car made a noise. I shut down and what I think is my idler pulley passed me on the side of the road. And I didn't even use a lift to do it.

Yesterday, I installed the new crank pulley and crank position sensor, then made some final adjustments to the MS3. I still didn't have a crank signal, and spent quite a while pulling my hair out 'till I just started tracing the wires and found the problem: the sensor signal lead pin wasn't fully seated in the Deutsch connector. Fixed that, synched up the timing and everything looked good on the logger.

Next I installed the new injectors, and a quick test showed they were all working as expected. Hooked up the fuel lines, ran the fuel pump to pressurize the system and check for leaks and everything looked good.

The time had come....
