Sooo...why 205s on an 8" wheel? Why not skinnier wheel or wider tires?

Apparently in this tire size and class 205s run more like 235s I was extremely skeptical about putting such a 'narrow' tire on such a wide wheel. However it fits great and only has the slightest hint of being stretched. These tires are significantly wider than the 215s on my Legacy.

It varies quite a bit, even in the ultra performance tires...

Here's Nitto NT-01 v. Dunlop ZII (1st gen), both 205/50-15, on the same 15x8 wheel:

You can see the Dunlop is much narrower because of the very square shoulder on the Nitto. IIRC it measured at almost an inch difference in the tread, though the section width was very close.

Those Bridgstones are PHAT! :D

My friend and I spent the day yesterday taking the V-Maxx Classics from the 1990 Miata and installed them the 2001. I had to order new longer front springs since Flyin' Miata recommends them for the heavier 01-05 Miata's. I'm waiting for the front to settle in before I really mess with the height adjustment as I think it's riding a little high for now. However I suspect it will settle down to where I want it.

Now for some pics :)

There is one tire I don't see in your pics, and I just checked the website and they make one in your size.

This tire (newer compound compared to two years ago), is as good as the NT01 at the limit, but also allows quick response.

I looked at the 615k's but Falken recommends heat cycling them and I just didn't want to have to deal with that.

Funny...I never heat cycled mine. I drove on them, then I tracked them a few times, and I am still driving them. They are the best summer tire I have ever owned. A bit scary in the wet (55mph max).

I only bought the NT01s because I thought they would grip better. They were heat cycled. Those tires are for someone with finesse. If you like to throw your car around, they don't work very well. The RE11As you just got have quicker response too.

The falkens fall into the same category as the DZII and the AD08R, so I didn't bother with heat cycling. And, they were not too many choices in 275/40/17 for street and track. I really wanted DZII or AD08R.

The wet traction and hydroplane resistance is part of the reason I really wanted the RE-11A. All of the other Extreme Performance tire reviews Tire Rack did indicated poor hydroplane resistance in the BFG Rivals, Direzza II's and the AD08R's.

  • I Donated
I have an autox on the 28th but no track days scheduled until October. I still need a roll hoop for the NB, before I'm willing to schedule any track days sooner.

Lots of tracks won't let you on track without a roll bar in a convertible too. Check on that

That's what I was saying. I have until October to get an approved roll hoop installed, but autox doesn't require one.

Front suspension never settled the way I expected it to so I had to lower the front nearly an inch to get the rake corrected. It was raked the reversed before and apparently the high cut off due to that really pissed off a late 90's Civic EX last night because they spent most of the trip home from my parents last night they were doing 25 in a 45 on a 2 lane road.

Here is how it sits now.

I've always hated AutoX classing... if you do the typical enthusiast mods to a car you end up classed with the trailer and hoosiers set...

Good luck, and let us know how it goes! ;)
