Umm, what about the millions and millions of xbox 360's that have failed due to poor solder and thermal expansion/contraction caused by heat cycling? Im on #3 myself and all of my friends have had one fail at some point.

Plenty of ps3's have also failed due to solder paste. The infamous ylod.

I'm on my second one after the bluray player failed.

Meh. I don't expect any console will block used games. The games themselves just evolved their model to require "passes" or whatever term they come up with to sugar coat the idea of requiring more money to own the complete game. There is no benefit at all for Sony or MS to clamp down on used game sales since this model has already been adopted. Chances of that going away are near-zero.

The public outcry came because Sony filed a patent for the technology that ties a game disc to a single console, obviously they are not following through with this, but that doesn't mean they won't try to screw used game buyers in other ways like charging for online passes etc.

I agree with the notion that it wouldn't have done them any favors. Take gamefly for example, I can't begin to tell you how many of my friends like to try a game before they buy it using that service and they end up buying games they never thought they would've bought because they ended up liking it so much. If Sony had followed through with that plan, it would have rendered services like gamefly obsolete, which would've effectively reduced game sales, and that is just one way it would hurt sales out of many. So yeah, good thing they weren't stupid enough to do it.

I don't mind paying $60 for a video game, when the game itself is amazing. One thing that annoys me is games being listed for $60 and they're advertising DLC for it. And I'm talking DLC that should have been included in the game from the start.

"should have been included" is always an interesting sticking point. Some zero day DLC is straight price gouging, no doubt. A lot of it wouldn't have been produced at all if it couldn't have been packaged as DLC. Playing the priorities game tends to be an exquisitely frustrating dance for all kinds of software development. Game development even more so from what I understand. Ultra aggressive environment.

ps4 playstation plus could have silver, gold and platinum membership tiers

the increasingly popular playstation plus service on the psn could evolve into a tiered system offering different membership levels on the upcoming ps4.

With the launch of the ps4 comes news that the ps4 playstation plus service could become a multi-tiered membership system, offering access to different content depending on the level of subscription.

According to sony boss shuhei yoshida, the gaikai streaming service technology could allow sony to filter consumers’ content access through different subscription options.

“we could have gold, silver or platinum levels of membership, something like that,” said yoshida. “we can do subscription services when we have more content – especially now that we have the gaikai technology available. With one subscription you have access to thousands of games – that’s our dream.”

currently the ps3 playstation plus membership can be purchased in 90 days spurts for £11.99 or users can opt for the annual option of £39.99. This gives gamers a dual ps3 and playstation vita subscription offering access to the psn instant games collection, exclusive access to new demos and beta trials, discounts on games and dlc, online storage for game saves and automatic software updates for both consoles.

Playstation plus subscribers can currently download the full sleeping dogs ps3 game and the ps vita title uncharted: Golden abyss for free, alongside over 65 other games.

“as more and more services and contents become available digitally, we’ll have more of an option to create attractive packages. So hypothetically we can look at different models – like a cable tv company,” explained yoshida.

The ps4 was unveiled at a dedicated sony launch event last week, but fans are still in the dark as to what the console will actually look like. With a ps4 release date set for “holidays 2013”, we should see the next-gen console by christmas. Factoring this in, come e3 2013 sony could be demoing some ps4 games live and give more details on the future of playstation plus and gaikai.

Do you think that introducing a tiered membership system would be a good idea? If you have subscribed to the playstation plus service, what do you think of the benefits on offer? Let us know via the trustedreviews facebook and twitter pages or the comment boxes below.

It's an interesting debate. I think only a few companies get it right.

I think BF3 should have had a much larger map list to start with and I'm not a fan of their price structure for DLC, but I do still enjoy the game and the new maps that they release.

I think Borderlands 2 is probably the best example I've seen of a well made game that still had good DLC.

The game itself is a long, well constructed story with a beginning, middle, and ending that satisfy. If no DLC existed I'd be quite happy with the game as a whole. But the DLC's have side stories that are generally well constructed, decently lengthy, and keep the great experience going.

Yup, that's the litmus test for me. Does the game stand on it's own or not?

Panning stuff like Mass Effect because they "already had" DLC and didn't release it zero day for free just boggles my mind. That's greedier than the greed they purport to be railing against. Had you not known the DLC was available, the couple hundred hours of main and sidequests would have tickled you stupid. Now suddenly it's price gouging since you know something got left on the floor before freezing the codebase for initial release?

That's just EA and their stupid DLC policies for you, and since Bioware was purchased by them, they have to adhere to their rules.

IMO though, Bioware has more then made up for it with the sheer amount of free DLC packs for ME3, it's been something like 4 of 5 free packs and they just came out with another free pack this week.

Sony's stock just went up 9% after the Xbox One reveal

http://www.sidequesting.com/2013/05/sony-stock-up-after-xbox-one-reveal/

I'm one of the many who are already leaning more towards the PS4 and this is coming from someone who barely ever plays my PS3.

Negative points against Xbox One:

I don't like the fee to play used games.

I don't Kinect, don't use it, shouldn't have to either, quit shoving it down my throat.

I don't like the DRM- always online requirement

PS4 is clearly going to be the more powerful machine, and since it's easier to develop for, game devs seem to love it already and that means more games.

Oh and by the way, MS stock is down .07% today.

new systems AND no older games ported? again? no thanks, lost interest in them with that BS. im sick of having to buy all new games every damn time they upgrade the hardware.

Isn't the point of buying new consoles to play new games. I mean you still have your old console to play the old games. Or am I supposed to throw away my old console when buying a new one?

Gran Turismo 6- PS3 and PS4 racing track list details posted

More racing track list details have been revealed in regards to the upcoming video game, “Gran Turismo 6,” which is slated to come out for the PS3 and potentially the PS4. According to a report by Venture Beat on May 26, the racing simulation title will feature 33 new tracks (including the recently-revealed Silverstone raceway) with various layouts. In total, it will launch with 77 courses for players to race through. You can check out the first screenshots of the PS3 version in the slideshow at the top of this article.

Polyphony Digital is currently developing “Gran Turismo 6” for Sony’s current-generation console. In addition to the new cars and race tracks, the sequel also features improved physics and better graphics when compared to “Gran Turismo 5.” Sony Computer Entertainment will be releasing “Gran Turismo 6” exclusively for the PS3 later this holiday season in the North American region. The PS4 version may also be released at a later time period.

I don't mind that it doesn't play PS3 disc games, but I am a bit saddened that PSN games won't work either, but they did mention a possibility of some kind of cloud solution (that was mentioned earlier).

Seems that with a system 4-10 times more powerful than the last you could at least come up with some kind of emulation solution, but oh well.
