SBT
Ton of carbon buildup too. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -
ibr_adam09
Wasn't driven hard enough maybe? lol . It had a sea foam treatment a few months ago. Last I heard, the block and heads are in machining getting worked on. The shop said as soon as they get it back, we'll reassemble. Also going to put in Super-tech Valves instead of Manley's because they were on backorder. I hoping they would get it back from the machine shop today and button everything up by tomorrow evening, but the mechanic said he wont be in tomorrow and since I prefer him to do my build, I'll have to wait until next week. Also bought this for my pass. rear coil. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Subaru-Ignition-Coil-Wire-Harness-Terminal-Plug-Set-Impreza-WRX-STi-Legacy-GT-/330737797947 Here's to another week of waiting and hoping. m sprank
Carbon build up is normal on EJ20 and 25's. Even more on the 20's. Good ol' busted ring land.
SBT
How much does SeaFoam remove the carbon build-up on the pistons. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -
m sprank
No more than good ole B-12 Chemtool.
SBT
Mike - through the intake? I've always thought of B-12 as much more of an "exposed" surfactant rather than internal cleaner. Between SF and B-12, B-12 seems a lot more powerful in use. If through the intake, what's the process v-a-v SF? - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -
ibr_adam09
You can suck it up through the brake booster line or bov line. Just as long it feeds through all four runners. I wouldn't do too much at once. (Seafoam only recommends 1/3 of the bottle )
Max Capacity
Why don't you just drive it like you stole it...won't that blow the carbon out of it. LOL My pistons had a little carbon on them, but you could also see aluminum on the tops too. here's two of mine with 154,000 miles on them. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x40/92Si/DSCN4759.jpg 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. m sprank
Put B-12 in the gas tank. As it cleans the injectors it will get some of the carbon too.

SBT
All I know is that if you drop B-12 on plastic or resin-plastic, it immediately softens and distorts the plastic. Not sure I'd want it flying around the inside of the IM, especially in full vapor form. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -

SBT
Put B-12 in the gas tank. As it cleans the injectors it will get some of the carbon too. Seems like a much better approach than sucking it into the intake. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -

FJuan
I thought that stuff was like carb cleaner, that's why I questioned it. Seen it, just nevered used it and I may have to give it a try. My wife's balls are delicious.

ibr_adam09
So I should be getting my engine back early next week. Today I bleed the brake lines after doing the sti booster/mbc install. My clutch fluid was disgusting, so bleed that as well. I notice they the shaft on the slave cylinder (that pushes against the fork)has a lot of play. As if its broken. shouldnt it be solid and only move back and forth or is that normal ?
ibr_adam09
Went back to the shop to order Manley rods today. gt06unlimited
See now this scares me as this is the exact belt and water pump kit i have coming for mine next tues. I know you said you had a bolt come loose, but i'm doing the job myself as i can't afford to have someone else do it, aka shop. I have loctite, should i apply that to all my bolts just to be sure? Other than this, how did the gates belt perform? loctite is usually a good idea on any bolt thats doesnt specifically say not to use it. make sure you torque the water pump bolts to spec, and do it when the engine is fully cooled down. it should take a couple hours to do at least, and thats in a shop with all the equipment. so take your time and you should be just fine. the beauty of these cars is thers lots of room between the radiator and engine to work in.
