Recommended Posts

After much prodding, Mach V Dan finally came through and set me up with a BIG set of wheels and tires. Brand new charcoal colored Rota Formulas...18x8 ET 48 with 245/35/18 Goodyear F1 GSD3's. 45 lbs each, mounted and balanced. They are a tick taller than the stock RE92's and noticably shorter than a 225/40/18. :D Enough talk.....on to the pics:

Both reside in my driveway, but I have to get up before 6am to hide the keys from my fiancee. She NEVER let's me drive it. It's a blast to drive. I decided on these tires after also getting them in 215/45/17 for the Mini. Super grip, quiet, comfortable and great in the rain.

I am driving to Richmond, VA tomorrow so I will get a feel about the ride Q. So far, from a quick ride up to the store, they have 100% more grip than the Kumho ASX I had on the other wheels (partly to the larger size and partly the fact it's just a better tire). Very crisp turn-in and seem quiet (only got up to 45).

Dan your car looks really good. I think I finally have found some Prodrive GC-10's in British Black (after about 3 months of trying to find someone who can get them) but I'm not sure if I want 18x7.5 or 18x8. I'm also not sure what size tires I want to go with. Let me know after your drive tomorrow about any issues with rubbing or anything for that matter as I'm not sure about how wide of a tire to go with. I think hearing from you after your drive my help. Thanks

Well, I have to say I am pleasantly suprised. I like 'em. Quiet, comfortable, tons of grip and no downside that I can tell (except for the cost). I knew what to expect from having the same tires on the Mini, but that car is so raucous on it's own, there was no good way to tell if the tires had any effect on noise (and they ride better than the runflats did but that's a given).

I had 225/40/18 Bridgestone S0-3's on a set of Volks earlier this year. The F1's are quieter, have more grip and ride better than the S0-3's did. They are not harsh at all, which was one of the reasons I bought them....but they seem to ride better than the all-season tires they replaced. Quicker turn-in, better grip AND more comfortable?? :D
