ssbtech
Thanks. Do you have the link to the thread where that was posted? I'm not sure if I would need "GT Wagon Manual" or "GT-B Wagon Manual" (Is "B" short for "Spec B"?) I don't understand what the difference is between STi Pink Springs for 05+ Legacy GT B-Spec MT and STi Pink Springs for 05+ Legacy GT MT Told you I was useless at this. .Catalyst.
It's OK - before I bought springs I had to read the stickies in this section like 10 times to get it all straight. Here's the link to the JDM suspension sticky Unclemat did http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/faq-jdm-oem-suspension-61108.html And this section in the first post helps describe why they are different due to weight in the cars: Which Pinks should I get? There are few variants of spring: for MT, AT, sedan, wagon, SpecB, 3.0R. They are different to account for difference in weight between these cars (not damping rates or ride height, if it would be so SpecB application would not share springs with anything else). Due to the "saggy butt" being pronounced with Pinks, I recommend getting regular GT MT wagon Pinks for all applications. They will keep the rear of the car little higher lessening the saggy butt effect, and possibly drop the front a hair more, further evening the wheel gap. Note, JDM SpecB has 5mm higher ground clearance than JDM GT, which given 12.5mm longer radius of tire means the stock suspension must be lowered ~7.5mm vs normal GT suspension. It does not seem to be true for Pinks. A car with SpecB wheel setup will ride higher. My spec.B [#163] Project Thread with Pictures Get CryoTuned! GT_Red
I think Fred Beans parts has the whole bilstein conversion kit for $999. My selection was KYB with progress springs, and I plan to install a rear sway bar and end links, that's all I need for my daily driver.
ssbtech
Oh that helps. BAC, is this right? http://www.fredbeansparts.com/bilstein-subaru-legacy-gt-suspension-conversion-kit.html So that's $1,370 + $300 for BAC's spacers, + ~$450 for springs.. Yikes.. still $2200 for the setup.
ssbtech
Is the valving on the HDs suitable for the STi Pinks or would that have to be tuned as well?
xero287
It's $1043 for the Bil's from Fred? They should be fine, no re-valving needed.

ssbtech
Thanks. I just emailed him. He says they have swift springs on them. I'm assuming that the STi Pinks will be a bit taller?
.Catalyst.
Yes the Swifts are lower than the Pinks on the HD setup. I saw he said he wouldn't split but there's a pretty good market for Swift springs if you were to sell them (typically 200-250 depending on mileage). I love my Swift ride height but it would probably be a little lower than what I understand you are looking for. My spec.B [#163] Project Thread with Pictures Get CryoTuned! GT_Red
The price went up on the Bilstein kit, used to be $999 last year. I bought my set up with installation for about $700 out the door. KYB cost $250 per set, pick your spring, but I wouldn't go lower than 1.5" drop on them and then a rear sway bar. It's my point of view that as the car gets older it doesn't make sense to drop big $ into it as for me, I don't autocross or anything and as its a depreciating asset, upgrades become less and less of a priority than value. xero287
Swift springs are much better quality than Pinks btw.
ssbtech
Are they? I haven't been in a car with either. My only concern with the Swifts in that set is the height. If they make a Legacy look low, then that's a real problem for the Outback where I'm trying to keep the fender gap above the tire no smaller than the gap fore and aft of the tire. BAC5.2
Swift springs are much better quality than Pinks btw. Swifts are definitely high quality, but pinks are made by one of the largest spring makers in the world, with some of the best QC standards in the industry. AZP Installs
There are only a few spring winding machines in the world. It is all about the QC that the purchaser requires said factory to comply to and how the purchaser oversees the QC. Much like the Chinese knockoff parts we see here, there may or may to be any QC at all. Pinks are sold by the manufacturer and generally have excellent QC. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. GT_Red
booooooooooooooom. GT red, you realize you have an angry unibrow on your car right? I don't see why you feel the need, what did I say that was so offensive? I wasn't making any comments about the pinks, however I am agreeing with most of you that a shock/spring combo is more appropriate for his application, especially when he doesn't like the coilovers. I am just trying to help him decide like the rest of you BUT, that said, I think being picky over which spring or being offended because I said most are made in China, which is true. I just say get the Bilsteins with pinks or another well known brand. I AGREE with the majority who have posted in this thread. Oh and responding to the hilarious unibrow comment, I live in Arizona, we don't have grass only gravel and rocks, so there are a lot of rock chips on the hood and bumper, just trying to not go full bra! I don't like it much either.
