01rs25
Its not hard, but its definitely not for the faint of heart. The entire interior is pretty much going to have to come out in order to get the headliner out. I have a few ideas though while its out and I can't wait to get working on them!! A few ideas ambient led lights in the maplight Led/fiber optic lighting behind the oh shit handles with switch. Flush mounted Radar controls in dash Slammed more than your girlfriend. 01rs25
Was really hoping that this would have been a success but it failed pretty miserably. I followed the following DIY [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFif1YXe6CE&feature=related]RC How-To: Dye RC wheels & other parts - YouTube[/ame] Started with a small part and attempted the RIT fabric dye I purchased earlier. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/00vr6gti/DIY%20Suede%20Interior/IMG_3182.jpg Boiled some water. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/00vr6gti/DIY%20Suede%20Interior/IMG_3183.jpg Poured in the dye and inserted part. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/00vr6gti/DIY%20Suede%20Interior/IMG_3185.jpg The end result. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b192/00vr6gti/DIY%20Suede%20Interior/IMG_3186.jpg I left it in for about 10 mins. But nothing happened. Guess Plastidip will have to do. Slammed more than your girlfriend.
BAC5.2
How concentrated did you make the dye? That really sucks that it didn't work. It definitely looks a little darker. 01rs25
VERY concentrated. I used the entire packet in about a 2 cups of water. Its slightly darker, but its not nearly as dark as I would like it. Slammed more than your girlfriend.

01rs25
I've also forgot to mention that I heard back from JPM coachworks about covering my visors. And although they gave a answer it wasn't exactly what I wanted to hear. Guess I'll have to see if a local STi owner will allow me to try a visor out in my car before I start ordering. We are not able to dye your plastic pieces. I am not certain of a method outthere for changing the color of the plastic hardware on your visors that is permanent and resistant to the "scraping" caused by the nature of the moving parts. It may be worth your time to see if the 2008+ Sun Visors fit your Legacy. I know that they borrowed a lot from the platform. These sun visors do in fact have all black hardware. Here are the part numbers for the driver and passenger. Perhaps your dealership may order one for you to test? 92011FG181JC Sunvisor for STI or WRX, Left 92011FG191JC Sunvisor for STI or WRX, Right Slammed more than your girlfriend. classicaddict
jason, whats up its pete. few things for you; 1: cliff and i have been threw the 3m spray glue debacle. DONT USE IT! atleast in the humid MD heat the stuff starts to come off and your headliner sags. hopefully this new stuff works out well......and with a few nights drying in the dry, cool, basement this glue seems to dry ROCK hard! 2: PLEASE! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT USE PLASTI DIP! that stuff is pure crap. every picture i have ever seen leaves a terrible dust magnet texture that you will never be able to clean. and its like crappy latex paint, it will peal off. come check out my interior, i used duplicolor flat black vinyl paint. doing my doors in that basket weave black leather, gonna look great! 01rs25
The 3m has been holding up fine on the a and b pillars, for the past few 105+ degree days that we've had lately. And this fabric is too expensive to just throw away and redo. But I'll be sure to use the new stuff for the rest of the interior. Thanks! I've never used plasti-dip but I appreciate the comments! It sounds like you just saved me alot of hassle. Where can you find this vinyl paint? Pepboys/ Autozone carry it? I'll have to grab some of this as well!! I'm so excited to get this finished! Can't wait to have the remaining bits of fabric in my hands. I've even taken off this upcoming Friday to hopefully get everything settled and installed. Slammed more than your girlfriend. Pretty sure they'll fit - I had ordered the front map lights from an '11 Premium Impreza in hopes that I could use the bluetooth speaker in it. Well, the color was off so I sent back, BUT it did fit So - there, get a map light (and probably a dome light) from a STi (limited) - map light sadly is like $130. I wouldn't be surprised if the sunvisors, A-pillars, and B-pillars all fit. I need to snoop around a bit more
01rs25
Thats good to know!! Thanks Keith! I'll paint the map light and sunroof controls before shoving out the coin for the new pieces. They don't get much use anyways, and there easy enough to repaint if they do infact get nicked or scratched!! Where did you order from? I would like to try and order a visor to see if it would work but don't want to get stuck with it if it doesn't. Also for anyone else whos wondering it seems the following part number correspond to the 'off black' ohh shit handles found in the GR STi. It seems there pretty standard so I would imagine they would fit. But I can't gurantee it. maddoc
Fred Beans! If this goes well for you I'm probably going to do the same thing. I'm sick of the two tone. But I'll definitely shell out for the map light and stuff I need to sit myself down in a new STi and look around. Maybe I should get to a meet one day
BAC5.2
I'd order the visors from a local dealer, remove yours, and compare them while at the counter. That way, if they aren't going to work, it's guaranteed that you can return them. 01rs25
This may be an option. I'll contact Jackie at Annapolis to see if she can help me out. maddoc
I actually ordered a beige/light grey version because the base Impreza has a two tone interior as well (actually, so does the WRX I think), so I haven't seen the black.

01rs25
Received a response back from Fred Beans I don't believe that the subaru store here has any sti's currently on the lot, just a wrx I believe. Visors and grab handles are diff part numbers between the legacy and sti so I can't say whether fitment is going to be spot on or not. I would only assume that it's possible they could be close, but probably not 100% I'm working on converting the entire upper half of my legacy to Black. And I'm hoping you could offer up some insight for me as well as everyone else looking at the thread for ideas. I was told by JPM coach works after I spoke with them about covering my visors that there was indeed no way to permanently dye the plastic on the tan colored parts on the interior. They suggest using GR sti interior parts. Visors, Grab handles and possibly the map light and dome light assemblies. Would there be any way you guys could compare the parts whether it be with a car on the lot or if you happen to have the parts in stock. Pictures of stock STi visors and grab handles could help as well. For it could atleast be helpful information to add to the thread. Thread in question: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/diy-interior-wrapping-suede-headliner-166041p2.html Again, any help would be much appreciated, in both my endevor and anyone else who may attempt to try this in the future. Jason I'm going to shoot the same email over to a local Subaru shop to see if they can be a bit more insightful. Slammed more than your girlfriend. Ghostride
Just something you might want to try for the color change of your plastic parts. I used SEM vinyl and plastic dye, In landau black, on my trunk parts and they get beat around all the time and are still black. I would also recomend usind the SEM plastic prep it helps with adhesion. You can probably pick both up at a local body shop supply store for like $16 a can. Oh and it also works on carpet I've dyed a few different carpets with it.
