DIY Interior wrapping - Suede Headliner How to

I did all these to my last car I had (08 Mazdaspeed3). The only bad thing was that after a few months it started to fade and turn a brown color. I just ended up painting the A Pillars flat black. The 3M adhesive didnt work for me at all! On any of the parts I used it on. Advance Auto Parts has some super spray adhesive (In a orange can) that I used and that stuff worked really really well. Wonder how much of PITA it is to get the headliner out of the sedan. It was relatively easy for my Speed 3 Hatch.

Still waiting on a response from another dealership. Hopefully then can give a bit more insight.

In other news, my fabric showed up at my local retailer today, so I went by and picked it up. This brings me to a total of 5 yards so far. Should be perfect to finish the rest of the interior. Hopefully by Friday evening at the latest.

In other news I started this project tonight in the 2 hours of free time that I had before dinner and the girl getting home.

Were going to start with this:

Remove the lens:

You can see two screws, remove them and you should be able to pull this down.

Disconnect the harness' there, are 4 plugs. At this point it should be free.

I stoped taking pictures at this point, as I was adding some interior mood lights to it.

Added recessed LED's in the seatbelt warning light.

And reinstalled.

I'm going to try and replace them. Hopefully I can find a sticker shop that will be able to do it.

Check with sign shops too. They can do it.

Or, shoot a PM to DocHolliday here. He can set you up for SURE.

So this project has consumed Me!!! It's definitely not for the faint of heart as pretty much the entire interior has to come out.

And because the limited have a sunroof. That needs to come out too. To get to the sunroof visor.

I've pretty much finished wrapping everything but the C-pillars, as they have such a complicated shape its hard to get everthing covered. I'm thinking there may end up having to be a seam. But I'm going to take it to the store that I've been buying the fabric at to see what they have to say.

I'll hopefully have a bit more progress on this thread later in the week when I get a chance to continue working on it. My weekend was spent putting a transmission in a a car that didn't want to accept its new drivetrain.

You all can blame my '99 Outback for that one

This all brings back such memories for me lol. Looks awesome!! Im really curious to see how well the fabric holds up. Maybe I just got crappy fabric. Can wait to see pics of everything installed.

You've completed this? I was told this is in the higher end of the fabric range that they carry without spending $120 for a yard. Its thick, has a back and holds glue and its shape well.

No real reason. I've used it before. I like the texture, and its realitively easy to work with.

Again, you could use these same priniciples to pretty much do whatever you wanted. I won't be touching the seats.

I havent done this on the subbie yet... but have on my previous car. Was definitely a lot of work, thats for sure. Messed around with different things on different panels. Some things worked... some different. Maybe thats why the fabric I had faded cause it was only like 9.50 a yard and a micro suede lol.

I've been paying around $65 a yard. I've used 5 yards so far with another 2 yards on order. That should be alll I need to complete the project.

However I messed up 2 of the panels and needed to redo them. So I would imagine 6 yards would be enough to do the entire interior.

More updates around wed of next week, as thats when I receive the C-pillars back from the upholster.

WOW!! $65 a yard!! That is some high end fabric lol. How is the A pillar doing? Any fading yet? I know its only been a few weeks but just curious. Cause thats the part that faded the most on me. Its the part that receives most of the sun that could discolor it. And after rewrapping it a few times, I decided it was best to just paint them a flat black. Have you put the headliner back in the car yet? I was wondering if you've had any problems with the sunroof leaking or anything? Not sure if you have to remove any of the weather protectant in that area when you removed it.

Currently everything is out of the car. Headliner, and all the pillars, as I'm awaiting this last bit of fabric to cover the sunroof curtan as well as the last remaining c-pillar.

Its been a long and slow process and I can't wait to get the car finished. Its making me itch to see it like this for so long.
