jmorris6689
Well last week my car was running really lean due to my ebcs so i replaced it it still wasent running good. Now my motor is blown and my turbo. So i am now building my engine fully forged internals, and adding a nice amr cxr500 turbo on it. Ill post a build sheet up later. Im hoping for a safe 400whp on pump.

ouch1011
So, what was the failure? I'm recovering from LASIK (yesterday) and can't stare closely at the pics, but I'm guessing ring lands? What was the failure of boost control? Too much boost? If so, I'd say a boost gauge should be on your list as well. IMO anytime you start modifying an engine, a boost gauge should be on the list, since you never know when you'll start having issues with boost creep, vacuum lines blowing off, boost controller failures, etc. Good luck on the build. I'm actually kind of keeping my eyes on this for the sti engine that will be going in my 98 LGT.

ehsnils
Red Manifold = STi manifold. Doesn't it look sexier? And it's a bit different so the flow may be better. At least that's something to hope for.
compsurge
So how easy are these engines to work on? I may need to be rebuilding my bro's at some point/ swapping a built shortblock with his current heads. Would probably end up doing a similar setup with the cxr500 and internals. SBT
Any indicators - noise, performance issues, etc.? BTW - If you haven't planned it already, don't forget your phenolic spacers, since you're replacing the resin intake with a metal one. Need to minimize the heat sink capacity of the STI intake. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -

At least that's something to hope for. Actually, the plastic intake manifolds flow more and better. There are no casting marks on the inside to restrict flow. Topspeed seems to love them. Good luck with your build and remember to take your time.
jmorris6689
i went with the sti intake manifold because im gonna port it out, and i honestly like the red. I do know that the stock plastic ones flow fine and dont retain heat as much as the red metal ones do, but i want a clean looking engine bay and something to go along with my crinkle red turbo and my red inlet hose. Working under the hood of a Subaru is very simple because there is a lot of room. Disassembly of the engine is just like any other, and splitting the case is no big deal. IIRC there are plates in the block that allow you to access the connecting rod bolts so you can separate the case without pulling pistons out of the bore. Legend
Well last week my car was running really lean due to my ebcs so i replaced it it still wasent running good. Now my motor is blown and my turbo. Howd did the ebcs cause the car to run lean? Untuned? Was unmetered air entering the engine? If overboosting was overboost fuel cut disabled? If overboosting was overboost fuel cut disabled? Good question - there has to something else going on. Too much boost, so too much airflow, and then not enough fuel flow capacity, maybe? jmorris6689
car was tuned but i did add a fmic and then the the car just slowly deteriorated over the next few months, it did over boost somehow because my stock ebcs blew out.
