If you were buying a car to replace your 05 LGT...

The last GTO didn't look anything like the old GTO

yeah, they would have done better if they had marketed it as the firebird or new transam... putting the GTO emblem on that car was a sales disaster, but it was still a nice car even though it had electric sliding front seats... but who needed the backseat in that car anyway? It was a mean performance machine straight out of the box, and that's why the few people that do like them love them.

yeah, no one really did unless you equate performance with style...

I was about 30min away from buying a 05 GTO all black 6 speed. Until i took it for a 2nd test drive without the salesman and noticed it was grinding into 3rd when slamming gears. Then I saw the legacy a couple days later remembered I was having a kid and was sold.

I'm not going to buy any more new cars -- only used from now on.

My next ride will be a Mercedes S600, to go with the LGT instead of replacing it. Nice examples are available for under $30k. With just a tune it's an easy way to get a 5 passenger sedan that runs 11s.

Of course I'd prefer the S65 version but it costs double and I just can't justify that -- much less pay for it!!

And be ready to $$$$$ in repairs...

I have had a 12 cylinder BMW 95 750iL and OMG.... Those cars have AWFUL maintenance bills pal... be ready!!!

On to page three and the only realistic option I have seen thrown out there is the G8.

4 dr, cheap, great performance, very reliable, looks great (AWD aside of course). Mod it and put the Holden front end on...OMG, you'd have to be nuts to consider anything else.

Nothing piques my interest. 4 Door Sedan, AWD maybe...

Caddy CTS - Nice but $$$ / the V is verrry nice, but verrry $$$$$

Ford SHO - twin turbo V6 sounds good, but looks kind of a plumper

Mercedes C - didn't WOW me, maybe AMG would, but so would $$$$$

Audi S4 - $55,500. ouch!

VW Jetta TDi - >$30k loaded, 40mpg, but FWD - FTL

so guess I'll keep the Legacy less then 50k miles and it's paid for, still fun when the turbo spools up, maybe get a set of bilsteins & tighten her up.

Forgot about the G37S. I'd hit that if I was going suspension/tires+wheels only and din't need the rear seats (you're not really putting someone back there?).

I saw one on the fwy. lowered w/rims and it looked mean as hell. Very nice interior this time around. If I craved more luxury and decided to slow down a bit more.....

I don't want the coupe... I want the sedan. Coupes are a bitch to put kids in car seats in to.

And more luxury without a high strung turbo making speed sounds exactly what I want in a next car.

In all seriousness, I'll probably pick up a last Gen M45 Infiniti (Y34 style). The boxy ugly sleeper sedan than I see on the road once every 2 years.

I have a perverse fondness for that rig.

Mmmmm.

Personally, I am leaning toward the VW Golf-R, 5 door for my next car; 2.0 turbo, AWD, DSG tranny, 270HP/236LBS, great gas mileage. Oh and HIDS...

I also like the interior and exterior, which is a shocking concept at subaru

Golf R drops summer of 2010, and I will probably get one in 2011.
