Grumbles08
It was definitely loose, hand tightened for now. Hopefully it was the culprit, I'll know for sure later tonight. Appreciate the quick help!
m sprank
Usually is. Dont want to over torque the plug as you might want to remove it for a WB some day. But it needs to be tight. Put some anti seize on it and torque it down.

Drogos
so I guess I need adapter to bolt up CNT to the stock CBE. Anything specific you would recommend? The same question in terms of gaskets and bolts. Thanks
bullfrg
I ordered a nice adaptor from Rally Sport Direct, but when I got my CNT it had one in the box.
m sprank
Generic adapters are $30 delivered. GS adapters are $34.50 (plus shipping).

parad1mg
wait.. so when you buy a CNT downpipe and you still have the stock exhaust system, you need to buy an adapter?
bullfrg
Yes, because the down pipe is three inch and the exhaust is not.
Drogos
so what's the latest on recent production run of CNT. I heard opinions that quality went to the shiter in recent years? it's almost 1/2 price of say Cobb DP, on the fence, need opinion, thanks. m sprank
Quality is not what it once was. Cats used last 1-2 years.

Drogos
so...how it fits ? also how close is that Cat to the CV boot ?
m sprank
For the past year or two, they dont fit well. Cat is about 2 inches from the CV. Expect to be replacing the passenger side axle shortly. Boot will dry out and tear.
stm25rs
Quality is not what it once was. Cats used last 1-2 years. For the past year or two, they dont fit well. Cat is about 2 inches from the CV. Expect to be replacing the passenger side axle shortly. Boot will dry out and tear. Good to know, thanks for the info. I had read these were Cobb knockoffs, but, even to my very amateur eyes, I thought the cat placement was bad, compared to the Cobb, where it's at the rear of the downpipe. Is there such a thing as a good quality inexpensive catted downpipe?
m sprank
They are Invidia knock-offs. For the original price they were a good buy. But since then they have changed factories so fit and finish is not the same. Price has also almost doubled. Then after long term testing we found the cats were failing fast. Like many things in life... you get what you pay for.
Brian3676
So what's the cheapest catted down pipe you would recommend that's going to last?
m sprank
I dont have much experience with the V2 TurboXS. But it is probably (currently) the cheapest "major" name brand pipe available right now. The V1 down pipe hung too low and would hit the ground. We sell and install far more Invidia than anything else currently. If you have a 5EAT you have even less options. Invidia and Cobb are the major offerings for the 5EAT. I have heard "rumors" that KillerB, GrimmSpeed and a few others were going to throw their hat in to the down pipe "ring". Grimmspeed tried last year with a 02-06 WRX pipe. FAIL. Great pipe, but priced so high no one purchased and in the end they had to "whore" them out to get rid of them. That might have proven to the other major manufacturers that there was no market for quality anymore (and be why GS never came out with the other down pipes they promised when they released the first one). dzehner2
I know I'm reviving an old thread here, but I'd be interested to know if CNT/ERZ is still having issues with their manufacturing, especially since they seem to be even lower priced than in 2014. m sprank
Generally, you get what you pay for.
dzehner2
Yup, methinks I'll go with a higher quality catless unit and save up for a catted one down the road.
m sprank
The cats used in the CNT down pipes are low quality. Mine lasted about 1 year and then it was no longer working as a cat.
