katalyst
it looks strikingly similar to another toyota concept from 2-3 yrs ago. i dont' recall the name of that concept but it was suppose to be a hybrid sports car i think.
Max713
Win, that car looks sick, if only it was available in a 2.5L turbo model

katalyst
http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=15&article_id=4440 there's a link to the article from december 2006, it was for the then labelled "FT-HS" concept. a supposed sports car design with a hybrid powertrain, i guess they just rehashed it and threw the boxer engine in to call it a day
snowscientist
If the six speed is the sti transmission, just imagine directly bolting in a STI turbo engine and you have a fantastic sports car! I would get one.

05pearl
...if only it was available in a 2.5L turbo model That is probably the first thing almost everyone on this site thinks. I have no idea why they would not do this. I have always thought that Subaru would have a huge winner on their hands with a good looking awd, 2 seat, turbo roadster. This could at least come close. speeding_gaijin
from what I heard it will be a NA Subaru 2.0 engine. The name this a FT86. FT stands for Future Toyota and I think you all know what 86 is. I am very excited about this. I am really hoping it will make it to production as it has been a while since Toyota has a made a car for enthusiasts. http://carview-img01.bmcdn.jp/cvmaterials//tms/2009/preview_car/toyota_ft86_concept/01_l.jpg http://carview-img01.bmcdn.jp/cvmaterials//tms/2009/preview_car/toyota_ft86_concept/13_l.jpg http://carview-img01.bmcdn.jp/cvmaterials//tms/2009/preview_car/toyota_ft86_concept/03_l.jpg

Viber
I like it, but this isnt a Subaru product is it. What I expect from the subaru version: God-awful, WTF exterior 1999 honda civic level interior quality Interior equipment Mazda offered in 2005 If Subaru can manage to not make the above mistakes, count me in. Oh and throw in a turbo and DSG type tranny with a price of $28k fully loaded tops. I'll drive off the lot with one, and then harass BMW 135 owners
jaymesbry
hopefully this will stay RWD and light.. and next generation boxer engine.. hopefully that means DI.. and a higher redline.. would love to hear this car scream at 7.5K and we'll see how much power it puts down, especially to see how good these motors are without the AWD system sapping the power
Guest
I like it. turbo or not, i still like it. +1 Really sharp! Can't wait to see power train specs. Big question is how it's gonna handle. I've been lusting over an Elise, but if this is handles at least like a Miata, I could see myself buying it instead. Should be much cheaper as well. Also +1 on no-AWD. Thankfully it looks to be RWD only.
VTGT
THe front end just looks mean. If they throw in a turbocharged powerplant I might be down.
oddseth
I can imagine seeing one of these in my driveway next to my 2008 spec.b, especially if Subaru offers a version with a 2.0L DI turbo. I could care less about 4wd, that is what the spec.b daily driver is for. I have been looking for a small, lightweight rear drive weekend/track car and this just might be it. Unfortunately, the honda 2000 lacks low end torque and I can only imagine how hard it is to maintain a turbocharged version of the engine. Not to mention, the hatchback on the FT86 will be able to accomodate much more luggage than the 2000's convertible-reduced trunk.

franklin
So no turbo, but say the next gen Boxer 2.0 is direct injection and good for say 200 Hp. With a low center of gravity , RWD and keep the weight down ( sub 2500#) this could be interisting.

SLegacy99
I really don't see Subaru selling a RWD car in the United States. And I certainly don't see myself buying it.
