W. Tiger, do you think it changed your MPG's much? I know for performance purposes that MPG's really don't apply but I'd just like to know for sh**s and giggles. I'm really fond of this mod though.

it should not affect it.

Shop is finnally installing my front LSD next week.

Question is, I haven't had a chance to ride is someones car that has one so no chance to do an A/B comparison.

From driving off his lot what would I have to do to notice a change? Is there any real world non track scenario that will make it evident that it's in there? Man I'd hate to have a mechanic say it's in there but maybe one of his shop guys didn't have time (getting a lot of other stuff done) to get it in there.

Thx,

Throttle (what would be too much before) on in a corner, instead of pushing you'll feel the front tires putting you through.

I kind of liken the feeling to a front wheel drive car with nearly limitless grip.

Still sucks as much as before.

Thanks guys, I'm more afraid of them not installing it and saying they did so I was looking for some way to tell on the day I pick it up and drive it home.

I'm really looking forward to this. I'm a handling guy before a power guy (funny how i end up in an LGT). There are a few key onramps I can play on so I'll check it out.

Oh, and I don't need a track to push it. I've been around long enough to know how, when, and where to have a bit of fun and not endanger anyone but myself.

:D

Just got a call, my car is almost ready and they are now working on the LSD. I was just told that the 2011 STI LSD will not bolt up. I was distracted with someone in my office and didn't catch the details but something about it being a 12 bolt when I need an 8 bolt (or vice/versa).

I need to find an alternative today or tomorrow or have him put it all together for another day. Have to way the cost of my rental car.

The bolts he is refering to must be the bolt holes on the ring gear. if the 2011 uses a revised part with more bolts for the ring ger then yes, your diff wont fit your older ring gear. so you have 2 choices, find an older front diff from an 07 or 08 with the right amount of bolt holes for your stock ring gear, or find the right ratio ring gear with the proper amount of holes. i think you will have an easier time finding a different diff. but you could get lucky with the ring gear.

as for his 2 day time limit. Thats BS. most techs will keep your car apart, and push it outside till you find what you need.

^^Thanks,

Might anyone know where I can source anything that'll work? I just looked at RalliSpec but $1300 is too much.

The 2 day comment was all me...I have a rental now and would rather not keep paying on it if I can help it.

Well, can't afford to wait and probably long gone.

I did find this...

How to determine if it will work though?

Also this Quaife on E-Bay Twice the price but my tranny is apart so if I must... Again might this work? I just looked at Quaife's specs on this and it's 12 bolt but is that enough to determine if it will fit? Specs

This is one area I feel completly helpless and newbish around the ins and outs of LSD's.

Ok, bottom line is I need an LSD and quick and I suppose I now don't mind spending a little more.

So Berk, so you're saying that possibly an OEM LSD from say an 06 may be cheaper? If I hit up a dealer I'm sure it'll have to be ordered and I'll need to know exactly what I'm asking for. In my searching I believe someone was quoted $580 or $680 for a 2005.

Shop just IM'd me, his response to my question of replacing the ring gear was "You are looking at $2-300 in bearings and $300 in additional labor" and I think this is on top of the ring gear itself.

I already have this 8 bolt LSD out of a 2011 STI... Would you guys go this route? Any negatives to doing so? So new 2005-6 STI LSD or replace the ring gear...very similar cost (haven't yet priced a ring gear).

ring gears are expensive i think and they often come paired with the pinion gear. the set in your car is over $400 new. brand spanking new diff from a dealer(fred beans parts) is $650. Id get the new diff and keep your ring and pinion so they stay as a mated pair.

Ok, sounds good...

Last question, I have a guy that just bit on my WTB thread on NABISCO

Is it worth a gamble on a 7yr old LSD? If it really is then I'll persue it otherwise I don't mind paying a few moe bucks for new.
