Damn rogue your wallet is sick.

Will changing the cabin filter take away the dead carcus / hockey bag smell out of my car?

I'm 70k with no cabin filter change. This might be Saturday's project.

You made the write up so easy that a monkey could change it.

Great write up. I changed mine as well. 45K miles and it was awfully nasty.

what year/model is this on? I have a 2009 Legacy 2.5I, and would like to do this. Also...some threads and forums are saying I need to take apart the center console/armrest storage area to access this place?! Ploease let me know!

Just took this advice and did it in about 40 minutes...Once I figured out those pesky screws it was EASY! Bought a Fram Fresh Breeze (Part Number CF9846A), and put it in no problems! This helped a LOT...Thanks! Paid $18 for it, and saved about at least $95 from the stealership...and did it in HALF the time, WITHOUT disassembling the center console, which they said HAD to be done!

Rogue77 - Awesome post/thread... I hardly slept last night while thinking about my cabin air filter...

First thing this morning, I went down to the Autozone and picked up a replacement from STP... I'll probably do the 3M/Lowe's/Home Depot option next time - agree that's a better way...

That said, I have a couple of suggestions that may improve the process?

First, I totally agree that the six retarded screw fasteners are a PITA... I found a way that made them super easy to take out - unscrew the fastener a bit with a phillips head screwdriver. This won't remove the fastener, but it allows you to back it out a little. I used a butter knife to pry out the fastener - a little skinnier and easier to get under the washer part... once I figured that out, they came out in less than 5 sec each.

I'll try to figure out how to post photos of what I'm talking about, but needless to say, my filter was baaaaaaad! Easily as bad as the worst I've seen on here. 69K miles, probably never changed before me (2nd owner)...

I may have you all beat on the dirtiest filter..... It has been in since 2007, the original filter,... at 70k miles now. Replaced with Purolator C35516. The '07's are easy to replace,.. like the 08's but instead of an access panel behind the glove box, there is a metal bracket with three easy to get to screws that will then allow a piece of sound insulation to lift up out of the way. Total time is about 15 minutes...

Funny you mention that bracket, I found it on the shelf the other day and couldn't remember exactly why I left it out of the car. But that was about 4 years ago now...

One thing I was wondering is how often should I be changing my cabin filter?

Brian-B... I think I have seen somewhere on here every 10k miles. My manual says to inspect every 12 months or 7500 miles. It's probably just what you feel like really,.. mine was in there for 70k..... probably way too long. I think I will just check/replace mine every year now.
