Picked up my 2007 Honda Interceptor RWB (25th Anniversary) a few weeks ago. I'm loving it! Motorcycling's in my blood - has been for 20 years now.

OH SNAP. That is hot.

If I were to repaint my Hawk something other than red, red white and blue would be it, in VF-series replica paint, like this. I want a VF500 chin fairing for my hawk, as well...

That is a great looking bike, and it should have looked like that a while ago. even the black frame looks better, but the rear axle cush-drive cover should be blacked out, too, if not the whole swing-arm. Color-matched seat upholstery would look fantastic, too.

Too bad the Sprint ST and Duc ST4 out-power it so much, let alone bigger bikes like the big 1300cc sport tourers from Yamaha and Kawasaki. The V4 engine is a nice powerplant, but a bit anemic compared to the newer crop of sport tourers.

Now if they would only put the RC51's engine, and the VFR's bodywork and Chassis, (half fairing, rather than full fairing, more of an FZ1 sport-standard competitor than a sport tourer) on the Superhawk... I would be very impressed. The superhawk is long overdue for update, but that is par for Honda's V-twin sporting motorcycles.

I need to rejuvenate my Moto-enthusiasm. Legacy obsession has kind of pulled me away from that for a little while. I look at new bikes like the SV1000, VFR, Superhawk, Ducati Sport Classics, Monster, and others, as well as the lust for a modern three-cylinder Triumph that got me started with motorcyles, and I want to trade my little NT650 Honda Hawk GT. Then I look at it, and I can't bring myself to. It is too rare, and took too long to find. It is small, underpowered, and uncommon, but it is fantastic none-the-less. I just need to ride it more often.

Viva la elf-swingarm'd honda motos!

Thanks man. I don't know about "anemic" even by ST standards. The low-end could be better yah but that's pretty easily improved with a couple of after-market mods like a Powercommander map, slip-ons, yada yada. If you're looking for 'Busa quick - wrong bike. I bought the Viffer 'cause I feel it's a fantastic do-it-all bike. At 35, I can't deal with a crotch rocket hunched over, pretzel contorted, and ass/back/arms hurting after 20 minutes. This bike is just about the ultimate "compromise" between canyon carver, long distance tourer and commuter. I mean even for a "slow" it's still a low 11-second one.

I like the Hawk. The SV1000 is phenomenal! I really like the SV650 too. But I do like the Viffer styling better and thus own one. I'm not Bimmer fan but can appreciate those who are.

Yep. The paint sold me. I love it. My last bike was an all white '93 VFR. I was sad to part with it. Hmm... black swingarm. Might have to PhotoChop that one to see if I like it. I was thinking polished/chrome rims, fender eliminator, Indigo slip ons, frame sliders, and Corbin seat as my initial mods.

I know how you feel. I have to split my attention between my truck, LGT, and now my bike (have to throw a bone to the wife and kid every once in a while too - ugh )

Now as far as power, the RC51 comment, etc... there seems to be somewhat founded rumor that 2009 or so will finally bring a 1000cc V4 mill to the Interceptor/VFR. We'll see.

You should at least photochop try-out a black swingarm and cushdrive cover. Pull the passenger peg brackets off when you cut the fender short. I'll have to check out indigo pipes. I like micron's slip ons.

I have always liked the VFR wheels with polished edges, but leaving black or grey painted centers. I have long wanted to do a 94 CBR F2 cartridge fork/floating dual brake conversion, and a VFR rear axle carrier mod, with a VFR rear wheel, which will bolt into the Hawk GT's SSS. With a quality rear shock, and a fork upgrade, the bikes handling FAR outshines it's power.

'Busa power is certainly not a requirement for me. Actually, much over 1000-1200cc, or over, say 140hp, just seems like a death wish, in my personal case. Other people may think otherwise, and they can have the "more power to them."

I've heard that the current style VFRs are fantastic bikes, but all the comparisons compare them to bikes like the Triumph Sprint ST, and the 4-valve Ducati ST4, and the like, and the new ~1000cc triple just has more power, mostly torque. Not to say that the VFR doesn't have enough power. A 1000cc V4 or V5 could be a real boost for Honda, even just to market the specs of the bike. It would probably fill the lower part of the torque curve, below the VTEC change-over better.

I agree with you about the non-racer-crouch. I am not a small guy (6'2"), and unfortunately not thin, either. racer crouch is not great, but a "standard" riding position is just fine, and bikes like the ones you mention are right up my alley.

And I am NOT a cruiser guy. I subscribe to the mantra that Harley Davidson is the best way to convert gasoline into noise without the side benefit of horsepower.

SV650 and 1000 look nice, and are supposedly really good and stone reliable to ride, with a gem of a V-twin. Hondas and Triumphs look a bit better, though.

I am not a BMW fan, aside from the boxer-engined "S" (sport) models. The R1100S and R1200S. I badly wish that the R1200S would get the Hossack-like SLA front suspension that the K1200-series bikes have.

Ducati Monsters are nice, but almost too common for a Ducati. The retro Sport Classic (basically a monster that looks like a 1970s 750ss) is fantastic, though. and pretty rare. The new Duc 1098 is SEX ON WHEELS, along with the MV Agusta F4, even if they are unrideable ergonomically, I'd park one in my living room as an art sculpture.

I so badly want a T595 Daytona, or a 1025cc Speed Triple with the t509-style tail section. The Daytona is a unique sport bike that is probably closer to a VFR than a Yamaha R1, and one of the only "sport" bikes that I can comfortably fit on.

I love ALL triumph sport and retro bikes, but I have to say that the 97-01 bodywork style (T595-style) is by far my favorite, and the current speed triple is technically the most impressive, with the USD forks, and the 1025cc engine. If somehow I could combine them... I have no idea why Triumph hasn't updated the big Daytona with the current Speed Triple's specs, or come out with something new there.

I want to like the Honda Superhawk... but it old for being new, it doesn't have the style of the VFR, nor the power of the RC51. And I have been disappointed ever since they showed the NAS1000 concept bike, and then didn't build anything for production.

The Honda 599/919 don't really do it for me, stylistically, or in the engine department. (I tend to look for alternatives to I4 motorcycles, and I tend to prefer twins or triples. V4s are interesting, too.), and those are way overpriced. I want their double-beam headlight for my hawk, though.

I am planning on oil-changing the Legacy and the Hawk tomorrow, now I am really wanting to ride that thing, after talking bikes again. :D

man.... i want a bike....

Ooohh... just wait to you blip the throttle on a sport-bike up to 10K, 12K, 15K and have the G's push all your insides around like a rocket... straight-line, coming off an apex on a two-late tree-lined twisty in the Spring weather... OMG! I tell you it's like crack. I'm an addict.

I hear you man.

H-D FLHRSEI thats a Screaming Eagle Road King by CVO (Custom Vehicle Operations) in purple/silver to the uninformed. upgrades include six speed trans and other parts to numerous to list. this pic is from the Black hills in SD Sturgis '05. this was my wife Sue's first ride of any distance 2800 mi the bike and her performed flawlessly. you young boys can talk about hp and quarter mile times but if you really ride that HD torque is where it's at. try taking those sport bikes and load it up with a weeks worth of clothes, rain gear, helmets, shoes, etc. (450#) then ride 600 miles a day, let me know how that works. every bike is designed to do a certian job and the HD does what it was designed to do very well. btw i have owned 20+ bikes in the past from '73 Kawasaki Z1's to my last sport bike a '94 Yamaha FJ1200 ABS (fine machine) i'll keep the HD forever but that Hayabusa is calling me. bosco

Unrelated to motorcycles, as I don't ride; but nice photo on the Needles Highway! I was in that exact spot not four days ago.

I'm not knockin' the HD/custom at all! I love 'em!!! Sweet bike man. There's little I'd like more in my garage (in addition to what I have already) then a sweet drag-bar or ape-hanger custom. Like Bosco says, different bikes are for different purposes. Having ridden Springer and Fatboy, I can tell you that they (and a good number of Jap cruisers) are not lacking power and/or fun factor. It's just at this point, I have room for only 1 do-it-all bike. When the situation becomes different, I will definitely be picking up an HD custom. I don't know if I'm "young" at 36 anymore.

BTW, my Viffer is a great long-distance sport tourer on which I can easily do a few hundred miles a day. It's probably not nearly as comfy as the Road King but it's not like trying to do day trips on an R1 or the like. I can stuff quite a bit into the OEM hard bags or aftermarket softbags.

:)
