Outback not a "MAN Car"????

Recommended Posts

let me get my frustration out at people who diss the OB. oh wait, i dont have to because when im flying through the snow at 80mph, and everyone else is on the side of the road in a snow bank, or driving 20mph with hazards on waiting for a plow or a tow truck to help them we will see who feels "less manly"

Buffalo NY here, we get tons of snow, and the weather is always crappy. skiing and hockey are about the only things to do in the winter months (all 6 of them). being in my early 20's and a ski/snowboard-addict i needed something that was fast, handled like a sports car, had a lot of room, better than SUV gas mpg, and could tear it up in the snow. OB is the answer.

So just remember all you OB haters out there, Wagons rule, especially ones that are faster than your car, and they can hold 6 kegs of beer with the seats down. Can your sedan do that? no. :-P

(dont get me wrong i like all subie sedans)

Yeah so about the young thing...I'm 22, and a dude, and I bought a black xt (thats gonna get its windows ceramic tinted black). And yes its a manual, and yes I still impress the hell out of people when it rockets down the road, yet I constantly get the lesbian and mom-mobile comments.

yeah, im 22 as well, 5th year in college, getting the tints done soon as the weather warms up, all my friends love it, the ones that say "Hey, i need to get some groceries, can you drive me?" know that my ob will rock their POS' any day. :-D

Revisiting this thread. Just received the email Subaru email newsletter (4/23/08) and noticed they have Ted Allen of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" fame as the program spokesperson for the Subaru-sponsored Dining Out for Life program.

my 05 frontier get better gas mileage than the our OBXT, then again it is only the 4cyl and can not get out of it's own way. Though I love turbo subarus the only one i could see my self driving daily would be an 06 wrx sti limited. I have always driven a small pick up and the wife gets the sporty car, which i tend to modify for my own pleasure even though I only drive the car like 1000mi a year. Hmm seams like a waste when i put it that way. My wife probley does not care about downpipes upipes & stage 2. Though just like me she was addicted to the exhaust note of the old wrx.

That car is sick looking. Are those rota wheels? This is an interesting thread to point out how much of a sleeper the obxt can be. I'm really enjoying my black/black tinted 08' and can't wait to get a little more aggressive exhaust note.

Most of my friends thought any Subaru that wasn't an WRX was a soccer mom car (not real car people). I love the sleeper image of the Outback/Legacy. Especially at StageII.:icon_twis
I'm probably the only person that has Wu-Tang Clan and Paul McCartney on their mp3.:p

Outback XT is the most sleeper car you can have...

This negative connotation works for you. In a way, the Outback XT Wagon is the Buick Grand National of today.

Yep, I've got one of those Buicks and have become addicted to the power:eek:. (Not too pratical for a daily car though). I'm planning to be getting an Outback XT soon to be the daily driver ;). Turbo'd cars are really fun to drive.

Well, I'm sure glad I ran across this thread.

It explains why our dealer was offering a free bottle of Viagra with Outbacks last year, when we bought ours. I asked why, and the sales guy mumbled something about "just in case...", but I didn't understand.

Now I do. It seems that Outbacks do that to a guy, at least according to what I've read here. HPH

I currently drive an FJ cruiser that I am selling to get my OB XT on order. I am hearing from my GF that the FJ cruiser is way cool and the outback is an old lady car. 1st off glad I am not married. 2nd, she is kinda right, where mostly older people buy outbacks up here in Alaska. I agree that the LGT sedan is more sexy than the OB, but the OB is a lot more practiacal for me up here. So I went with the outback, and told her that it has a turbo. She didnt care and still thinks its an old lady wagon.
Real men drive whatever the F# they want.

You have made a very good choice for your needs. As gas prices climb, it's going to look even smarter.

You are buying a car that has more power than most Porsche 911's sold before the 1990's. I'm not sure coilovers would cut it in AK, but with just an upgraded rear sway and tires there aren't many cars that can give you the slip: and you have a much lower LEA profile and insurance rates. The driving dynamics appeal to the heart: the economics appeal to the brain.

I've had two different guys drive my OBW in the last week. And that's the "granny" H6 with 5EAT that all the knuckle-draggers bad mouth here (with MR coilovers, Goodyear F1 GS D3's, and an LGT rear sway). One has a BMW M3, the other a plain-ole 3-series BMW. They both said almost the same thing, "Wow - I had no idea!"

A manual XT is a very quick car, and has styling that will age well. Most people your age don't buy OBW's because they're sheep or knuckleheads. But note that older OBW's are very much in demand as "cool" college wheels for not much money. Drive on.

Real men drive Chryslers, with automatics. A real man is not afraid to let a transmission shift for itself.

Could someone please explain to me what Stage I and Stage II upgrades are? I'm assuming they're just ECU reflashes? How much power would you gain from them in, say, a 3.0 R? Are there any adverse side effects/warranty changes as a result? Just curious.

Wagons rule! Sedans look lame with bike racks, but wagons look purposeful w/ them. IMO, the OBXT 5MT was the coolest car in the Subie lineup after they killed the LGT wagon. SOA has redeemed themselves somewhat for killing the LGT wagon by making the STi a 5-door.

Power bulge? You mean the bumps on the hood that the H6 has? The H6 with less torque than the Turbo?
Less peak torque:lol:.

Surely, as a mechanical engineer you understand that those lumps were added to provide form stiffness for the aluminum hood? I would have loved to hear the conversation between the stylist and the body engineer on that one.

Here are JD Power demographics on who buys these cars. 57% Male, 43% Female. Highest percentage of buyers are 36-55, followed closely by the 65+ crowd. It is a middle age to elderly man or woman's car.

Does it show those stats there?

I'm 20 years old and I love my grandma car! (lol) It keeps me under the radar pretty well when it comes to staying away from police. I race bikes so it's also a lot more practicle than my mustang GT was...

YUCK! Live for Speed is the ONLY racing game for a TRUE driving enthusiast ;)

Anyway - nobody has answered my question yet!

rFactor. GTR. There's plenty. :)

I don't play those games though, because you need a gas pedal or else you'll send your car flying off to the side of a straightaway if you hold the gas "button" for too long. I don't have room for a gas pedal, much less a steering wheel. :(

Eh... those games are also rubbish. Live for Speed is the only game that actually drives realistically. It's also a game that is damn near IMPOSSIBLE to use without a steering wheel (in fact, the website says to not bother buying the game if you don't have one...). Try Live for Speed one day. Not the world's best graphics, but light years ahead of every single game out there. Even with a keyboard it's fun to fool around.

Outback: It's the utility vehicle for those who don't have tiny dicks.

I really have no love for conventional SUV's not being used in a commercial enterprise. H2's and Tahoes and Escalades are all over the road near me. The Outback people are laughing all the way to the bank. Even the 2.5 N/A's will out-go, out-stop, and out-turn the leviathans.
