Legacy Specific ACT Clutch. I WIN!!

Got mine installed today.

Wow! Makes the RPS look like a piece of crap...which it is.

Pedal effort is so light compared to the RPS that I almost put my foot through the floor when I first got in. I think my gas pedal has more resitance in it. But that's not really a bad thing. Engagement is really close to the floor, but I got used to it after a few shifts. TONS easier to drive than the RPS. No chatter. Best of all, it doesn't slip in gear.

My only concern about the light pedal... how much power will this clutch hold. The heavy pedal of the RPS made it feel bullet proof..which it wasn't. But the light pedal doesn't instill much confidence. I hope it doesn't mean anything though. I have pics of the toasted RPS posted in the RPS group buy thread.

Don't throw the RPS clutch out just yet, for around $200 you can get it refurbished and keep it as a spare.

You wont get much for it around here. Call Rob at MTS and see if he wants to buy it off you, I hear he sells them to unsuspecting LGT owners. Oh, wait, he wont answer his phone anyway.

Glad to hear you feel immediate improvement over the RPS. I'm sure I'm headed this way soon too.

Well, the flywheel is still mostly good... just needs to be resurfaced. So i'm gonna try and sell that for about $100. Then someone has to take it to a shop and get it resurfaced for $80 max. So they save almost $100.

Pedal effort is light for the first hundred or so miles. You will notice more resistance as you put more miles on it. It's not as heavy as my previous ACT 6 puck, but it's not quite as light as the stock clutch. I'd say it's a happy medium and holds like no other!

I just ordered the ACT Stg 1 (SB5HDMM) and the Streetlite clutch (600480) from Import Image racing. They list it for $809 on the site, but sold it to me for $800 shipped... ask for Josh, he is a nice guy and has these in stock for same day shipping.

My first gear just died earlier today and I am going to get a new tranny and a new clutch.

Good to hear the combo works great...

So I just spoke with SPEC and they reccomend going with a Stage 2 for our cars even with my mods (light stage 2)...the person i spoke with said the pedal pressure would be even lighter than stage 1 and it would last longer. everyone ive spoken with have been going with ACT or SPEC stage 1's unless they're really heavily modded. let a brotha know. im either ordering a spec or getting an ACT combo by the end of the day or by tomorrow. I found a SPEC for $449 shipped, so that extra $400 in my pocket does sound appealing over the ACT combo since my fly should just need resurfacing. but stage 1 or stage 2???

Interesting. When I was looking for info on spec, I only found guys on here with SPEC stage 2, 2+ or 3.

Who are you going to have resurface your flywheel?

The DM design doesn't make it easy.... if possible at all.....

You would be better off ditching the DM flywheel and spending a little more on the ACT clutch/flywheel.

really? im having subaru specialists in sacramento do the clutch job...supossed to be the best outside of the bay area...they use a machine shop. the guy i spoke with has done several aftermarket leg gt jobs recently...but maybe he hasn't resurfaced it yet. so you guys would say to go with the extra 3 bills or so on the ACT combo?

yep, just spoke with subaru specialists...looks like a no-go on the flywheel resurfacing, they've always just done ACT swaps. probably the best solution even though $1200 hurts the wallet, ouch.

no im saying parts and install...the combo's $800 shipped from rallysport OR importimage. that plus 4 hundo for a clutch install equals the grand total of $1200 hitting my wallet. hence the post.

^^ kevlar disc they use is less likely to burn, but if you do burn it, it's less likely to be ok afterwards. Organic disc will wear down after a burn and regain some of it's original properties..kevlar won't

there's also the whole point that the springs in the DMF were designed to work with stock power levels and if you are over stock levels the DMF doesn't work the way it's supposed to and there have been recorded cases of the DMF fuseing itself into a solid disc....which is bad.

My feeling is that if you want to keep a DMF, get a new stock DMF and use it with the spec kit. I kinda feel like spec is pulling a, "Hey, look it worked!!"

If you want a solid disc and IMHO, a better solution, get a conversion kit. (ACT, Bully)

What is an IMHO? Yeah i could care less about the DMF, like you said, there's such a different in the way my car drives/stock clutch feels from stock anyway that id rather have a clutch/flywheel combo thats desined for it. what do you mean by spec pulling a, "hey, look it worked!"? in general it definitely seems that the ACT combo is a superior product to the SPEC, and for an extra 300 bucks or so, it seems that the advantage of a more reputable clutch thats probably gonna last longer and a lighter fly is worth it. mainly, i just want something thats gonna last a good long while, and if ACT is it, then ACT is the way im going. Im not the expert, but everyone ive been talking to is going or have gone with ACT.
