I could put together furniture from IKEA based on their instructions, but I'm having a hard time understanding the picture instructions for the plastic inserts in step 9.

Where do these inserts actually go?! Are they placed in the inner part of the bar? If so, how do you get it in there? Also what is the measurements for Front 97mm and Rear 76mm for?

Subaru instalation instructions.

The thin strips one cuts in the end is what I need!

^^ By inserts I presume you mean the T-shaped plastic pieces with the measure markings on them?? If so, then those go into the "slots" on the bottom side of the cross bars to seal up the slot where the tightening/attachment bolt for the towers slides in from either end. And, the reason that the front/rear measurements are different is that the front towers set further apart than the rears, and therefore the slots (where the T-shaped plastic pieces go) are shorter in the rear.

Another thing to do with these is to wrap/run a 3/16" nylon piece of line from one side to the next, with the "coils" spaced about 2-3" apart. That will break up the wind-flow and make them much quieter.

Bought some cross bars off ebay last week. RRP $280 or something from Subaru. Second hand $99.95 (winning bid).

Love them :)

Don't forget to put those plastic strips into the channels of the OEM Mont Blanc crossbars!! That is the key to them being silent. Without them my bars were crazy loud!

Can someone explain or post picture of what "Plastic Strip" is being referred to here? Got whistling Subaru bars and didn't expect that!

Thanks!

Those ROLA bars look great. I kinda want to get them to replace my Subaru OEM bars. The ROLAs seem to be very low profile. Where as the Suby OEM set-up stands high.

My ROLA rack is killer. Just used it on vacation to haul beach gear to and fro. Quiet. Clean looking. Handled well. I saw other cars with Thule MOABs rusting all over the place and Yakima baskets with nothing special to show either.

ROLA basket was 150 shipped. Low profile design. Perfect!

* Plastic Strip *

The bars have channels in them. The channels can howl. Plastic strips came with the bars and they need to be cut and put in the channels.

How do I take the Subaru bike rack off? Key lock seems to be stuck? Can I take the cross members and all off without unlocking?
