DRL Disable, in 10 minutes

^ In the city, where there's ample streetside lighting, it's honestly rather easy to do.

Yeah, I've done this a few times, In fact very recently. The problem is really bad when you're tired, when the dash is dimmed, and you're not thinking, you don't even notice that the rest of the console (Radio, etc) aren't lit up.

Also, so whats the conclusion here about DRL Disable == Dimmer headlights on 05-07?

Nice! I didn't even have to pull the panel out...

thanks for doing that for us so we knew where to look.

just pushed the panel up into the corner about 4 inches, shoved my ape hand in there, grabbed the connecter release, and pulled back.

The wierd part is that that I plugged the connector back in, the DRL does not work any more like it's supposed to.

Anyone experience that?

Quick and painless, one thing to note is the plug is plugged into a receptacle mounted to a dash bulkhead to the left (about 3") directly above the clutch peddle. Also, I found that I had to remove the popits at the bottom of the dash and pull the black plastic cover away.

i finally did this. It seems the smallest things always get put off the longest. Anyway, it took about 5 minutes in my 05'. Exactly like the 1st post says. Thanks for a good write up and an easy mod. Hid's, here i come!

What's the deal with this for an 09 model comapred to the info in the OP? From scanning this thread it appears it may be a little different. Could someone walk through this for a noob with an 09 who is also a DRL hater . . .

Thanks

Pulled the harness out, see the blue/black wire. How do I actually get the wire out of the harness? At the moment, the harness is still out - the car is still safe to drive, right?

When you look at the end of the harness where all of the wires end, each wire has two silver bits in each housing, one in the middle and one in the bottom. This means there are 2 potential places to push with the screwdriver - one between plastic and metal, the other between 2 metal bits. Am I supposed to use the small screwdriver to push above the middle silver bit, or push in between the 2 silver bits? And do I push up, away from the silver bits or down towards the silver bits?

From what I remember on the end where the wires come out there's a plastic tab that you could stick a small screwdriver under and pop it up, once that's loose you can pull the wire out and pop the plastic piece back down

If by plastic tab you mean the thing that runs the length of the harness, I already did this. Opening this clip allows the wires to be taken out, once you know how to take them out! To take them out, you need to use a small flathead screwdriver. Push the wire towards the end of the harness, insert screwdriver to depress small locking mechanism and slide wire out. But I don't know exactly where to press with the screwdriver and neither seem to be working at the moment!!!

Apparently it also affects cruise control - ever use it to state whether this is true?

I want my high beam indicators on my dash so disconnecting the blue/black wire only and replugging the harness back in is supposed to allow this to happen. Need to know how to get the damn wire out though . . .

I used it the other day and it worked fine

Got the f&cker out! I really made sure that the tab that runs across the opposite end to the wire ends was raised. Then a little forward pressure on the wire, pushed the small screwdriver between the silver bits and down towards the lower one and pulled the wire . . . out it came. Managed to tape it up but before I could plug the harness back in to test things, the wife nabbed the car and drove off.

Am I right in thinking that once the harness is plugged back in without the blue/black wire, I should have the full beam symbol on the dash? Or do I need to do something else to get this back?

nope everything should be the same minus the DRLs :)

Spot on.

In summary, if you have an 09 OB, pull the white harness, disconnect the blue/black wire only and then plug the harness back in, you will have disconnected the DRLs only. Full beams will function as normal (and have the symbol light up in the dash) as will cruise control.

Thanks to all for help on this, happy to have saved my new HIR1s some unnecessary burn time.

Would this be the same mod for an 09 Legacy limited sedan? I had an 06 that I'd disabled the DRLs, on, got the 09 yesterday. Just want to make sure before I disconnect the blue/black wire. Reply appreciated - TIA!!

Honestly I have no clue, I pulled the trim from my 09 OB and it was the same setup as had been described earlier in the thread. I did not want to cut the wire in case it was different so pulled it instead and fortunately was exactly as advertised. Just have a look at the harness, see if the blue/black wire is there (it was in the middle of the 3 central wires in the harness) and then decide if you want to take it out to see what will happen . . .
