Chappy
It doesnt look like it would reach to far into the fender. Im guessing that it just catches the filter into the side of the fender for a little cooler air then under the hood. Same concept as the Typhoon with the heatshield. The AEM looks good.. Where'd you score it for 180?
Mblock66
Guys I just got back from the initial tuning. I have mixed reviews thus far but the AEM is a nice piece of equipment. We went out for a tune first then installed the intake and went out again. Sine it was a high traffic time we didn't get all the pulls that we wanted to and he said that I should have a bung in my DP so that he could get real AFRs. Butt dyno doesn't tell me anything at this point. Intake isn't too loud but there is a lot of woooshing going on. No BOV sounds though. No Pfft after a shift. He wants me to come back when we have more time and look at some more settings. He only tuned me for WOT full load, he didn't touch any other settings on the maps yet. Anyway, I will take some pictures when I get home later at 10:30. I am at my 2nd job till then. I think I had my hopes set too high. I was looking to really feel the differernce but you really can't. Maybe it will keep "learning". A dyno would have really helped. Oh and no TMIC yet
robsontuning
I have one on order for my car now. AEM claims 13 peak horse gain and 14 peak torque gain. I had real good luck with the short-ram on my 2.5rs and installed alot of the CAI on the 2. liter WRX's. Never had any problems with the computer. I am hoping for the same again,
PhilT
Those gains might be possible on a completely stock car, maybe not so much ontop of other mods. I think an average butt would be able to feel 13hp. Double Award Winning Legacy GT Wagon
robsontuning
When we installed pipes and jet-kits or remapped bike computers. We made it a rule so that we would not have customer coming back frustrated or disappointed. The bike has gained power, but it has also moved the power around. When we installed race systems the motorcycles normally lost on the low end, and gained everything on the topend of the rpm. AEM shows their dyno testing on a stock car and it is somewhat like the motorcycle it follows the general stock power curve, but raises and lowers around it. 4mcrue
I see they are on ebay, but they are lots cheaper than the K&N one. Which is a better intake, or does it matter?

robsontuning
One of the big plus's for the AEM is the dry filter. The oil used on many of the aftermarket filters are what are throwing the codes and screwing up the MAFS.
RippinRoo
I think you want www.aempower.com rather than www.aem.com... "I love the feel of wind in my face and boobies against my back." - BMW motorcycle rider
robsontuning
definity go to the aempower site. I spend about 20 minutes on the phone last night with Robert about the CAI, he made many good points about their product that help my confidence when it comes to using them again. dougc
I am going to need a new air filter soon, can you put something like that on a 2.5i or would a panel filter be better?

Magowin
I like the sound of my K&N Typhoon but would like to hear this one. Mblock66 we should meet up one day to compare the two you don't live too far away, your probably only 15 minutes from me.
wcbjr
Yes, but if you can reduce the air temp into the turbo, the air temp out of the cooler will be even lower. Not exactly true. The temperature of the air going into the motor reaches an asymptote, namely ambient temperature. The intercooler already gets the air pretty close to ambient when the car is moving. The good thing about a cold air intake is when the car is not moving or the intercooler is heat soaked. It also helps flow a little bit. I forgot what I was supposed to remember. Mblock66
I will chage my batteries and take a few pics tonight. The filter actually sits REALLY low in the fender. It is a true CAI. I didn't think it was going to but wait till you see the placement of this thing!!! It is awesome As far as the performace. I think I lost some power between 2k-3k but I gained it back up top in 4th and 5th gear. So i need to bring it back to my tuner and play with the off WOT settings to see if I can get some of that back. Overall it is not loud at all. Anyone looking for a quieter alternative to the typhoon should get this intake. I don't have a video camera so I can't really take videos with audio. But mmmdef rode in it and he can tell you that it is quiet. Lots of woooshing and such but it isn't overpowering or even noticeable if your radio is on like
mmm def
Yup I rode in it, it's a very nice piece. You hear a nice woosh just like the flat panel filters when you step on it but cruising around town you don't hear much, maybe a little deeper growl. This mod would pass the gf/wife test, I don't even think they would notice. If you are looking for the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah loud intake growl like a VTEC with an intake this isn't what you want.
