kzr750r1
Luckely looking back at my gasket order from M45... I have it! Didn't have the energy to get back in the garage last night. Hopefully it's not too hot to muttle about in there later this afternoon. Still want to talk to Killer B and get some torque spec from them on the pan and pickup tube bolts. kzr750r1
Been busy. Got the "flu" on the way back from the midwest on 7/1. That killed a week. Need to go over the valve gap again. Built a spreadsheet to help ID new bucket size. PITA converting back and forth from imperial to metric and back. So far looks like I need 10 buckets. With money tight for the moment all on hold until I recoup a little from buying most of what I needed for this rebuild. Have another long business trip to the east coast early next month. So I'll probably be able to keep going mid August. Now one interesting item is the passenger cams are not as free in the journals as the drivers side. Next step is to plastiguage them and make sure they are not too tight.
kzr750r1
Some progress... Finally. Had to polish the passenger cam/journals a little. For some reason passenger side was really tight. Cams needed help to spin. Now with less stiction. Buckets ordered, i'm splitting hairs but hoping for a nice even lash gap across all. 10 buckets ordered Sunday. Still havent received shipping notice. Funny one was really shallow 4.66 is needed in one location. Edited August 4, 2022 by kzr750r1 1

kzr750r1
Correction 8 buckets were ordered. I had some changing variables after taking another pass. So for the most part the shop was half right. But again I'm splitting hairs here going for perfection. Thanks Max. Well see how long this one lasts. Cooling mod will probably help a little. Need to get this back on the road ASAP. My Daughter will be needing the slush box to get to school and back for the near future. We drove around in the Toyota Pickup. She did ok driving stick but were a long way from cutting her loose with it. She was sweating bullets once I forced her into public roads. leetdrv
It helps to push cam caps to the side when tightening bolts to prevent cams from binding. Nice work!
kzr750r1
Buckets arrived. I'm back home. Hot as hell. Family woes may stall work. Fathers wife passed a couple days ago. Hard to hear him sobbing on the phone recounting the event.
Max Capacity
Sorry for your loss, just went through a death in the family too. Just got home from helping one of my sisters. Take your time and wait for the heat to break, you'll feel much better working on the car. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). kzr750r1
Ripped into it for some time last night. The good: Took 6 hours last to get the valve lash set. Had one that was a clerical error transposing English standard to metric. Luckily there was a spare bucket in the horde that fit the need. 4.81mm is a little different than 4.91mm. Intake all .008" and Exhaust all .014" plenty of room for bed in. Front caps screwed and glued. All torqued to spec. 14.5fp for the mains and the front get 7.5fp. Use Ultra black in this location and also the next step the valve covers. The bad: Had one realization that the shop had damaged a seal bore. Looks like a drop to me. Cleaned up the inside bore and crossing my fingers and toes it's going to seal. Going to call the shop rep and at least let him know.
kzr750r1
Pic of the offending cam hole after "correction". Should seal.
Max Capacity
Yeah, I'm thinking you'll be ok. May not have been dropped, just bumped or banged while moving it around. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). kzr750r1
Hard pause. Pulled the head. I could still see seal deflection. Taking up to the machine shop for them to fix it. Only loss is time and three gaskets. Head and two cam seals. Could probably use the lower again but F it. Just get new.
xt2005bonbon
That's frustrating. But better get it right from the beginning.

xt2005bonbon
Yeah I know. I would HATE to start the engine only to see oil leaking from that seal. A pain for sure!
kzr750r1
And a quick fix for the machine shop at M45. They provided me new gaskets for the head and cam seals. Clearly someone dropped this casting on it's edge. It wasn't me. Rep looked but didn't have these angles in the pictures taken. Regardless stand up shop making a customer happy. Nice to see the machine shop expanding to another building across the street. They are moving forward with closed deck bocks providing shipping to shops in the west out to Colorado. 10 min then a little more time talking to the head machinist. Longest part was the 2 hour drive to the shop. But took advantage and went up to see the Mother unit. She's prepping for Knee surgery beginning of next month. New custom parts! I'm still waiting for my last Heuberger order... Last I checked they were waiting for another oil pump bolt. Least back to where I was a week ago. kzr750r1
Bolts I misplaced for the oil pump. Also a new intake and decided to replace the lower timing belt gears. Will be the 4th intake and first time replacing all the gears. AVCS gears have been here. After looking at all the chips on the lowers from install/removal plus 250K miles... It's peace of mind. Should have most everything else. Going all new hoses. All in stock best I can figure. Of course there will always be something I missed.

Made the decision based on parts coming from Japan OEM manufacturers. Not going the pro gates belt kit like I did last time. 19 hours ago, tdelker said: Why so many intakes? tdelker
"Will be the 4th intake and first time replacing all the gears" Why have you had to replace your intake 4 times? Or am I misunderstanding? I use the gates TK328N kit (from amazon or rock auto for best price) which has all japan rollers and 'OE Exact' tensioner.
