boxkita
there was/is a group of lgt nw members who bought an old escort and turned it into a lemons race car. When i got involved with them, it had a escort gt engine with a mazda 323's turbo with a welded front diff. Redline was 7200, and you had to keep the revs over 5500 otherwise the tuirbo gasket might fail. For the hour I got to drive it, it was truly fun. Thing people didn't know is that the 1.8 BP took RX-7 parts, ad you could tune them to run, I know first hand. Here is my Street E-GT tuned, missing 2 gear. Febreze Mee
I'm curious, what was your 2.5 like after XRT tuned it? MILKRUN - Click Here
NORULZleggy
I'm curious, what was your 2.5 like after XRT tuned it? Well it was not LGT fast but it was a runner. Tuned on 91, Kakimoto Race Chamber, Fog cold air, Iriduim plugs, MSD wires, MSD Coil pack, AEM dry flow filter, Li Long Cans on the back (I have video, Never a rasp ever). The car pull through the RPM range. From 0-120 it would pull. By the way I kill a set of plugs tuning the car lol It was a killer on back road cruises and corners. It was not a straight line car but If I got the hit on you I was out in front for a while. best race was a 2015 WRX in mexico on the high way. I took off on the 2nd honk at 65 and pulled car and a half from the jump. he had to down shift. He came past me at about 105. the look on his face when I told him I was 2.5i lol Would recommend it, well yes if you are going to be sticking with the car for a while. I had the car and just bought my first house, and was not able to pay for a LGT, plus I traded in my STI and Esxort Zx2 for it. SO it was a wash. Funny story I will admit I was nervous driving my 09 WRX all the time, I was chasing a 2016 WRX that took off from a stop sign, and I took off few second later and he was flat foot, spitting out exhaust and so was I and I almost rear ended him I was pulling so hard. That was not the first time I had almost down that. The WRX was stupid, I tried to tame her. Just let er run wild till I sold her.
Febreze Mee
Oh no. I won't be tuning my car. My car makes me happy as is. I was just curious. I'd rather put the money elsewhere anyways. The next big service should be coming around soon. MILKRUN - Click Here

NORULZleggy
Damn. Sick thread! Thanks, The funny thing is I think this car will be faster then the 09 WRX I had. This legacy will have full fuel system, injectors and FPR, Rails and blah blah I might throw E85 at it but will prob never run it if I do, but would like the option. Just not reliable E85 around here.

It nice to embellish stories, but the reason you were out in front is because they didn't realize you were racing or too busy laughing. I have had a MT 2.5i and AT 2.5i, one was tuned and one is not. They are both painfully slow past 80mph. To put it further in perspective, I ran both my 2.5i and GT at the 1/4 mile track. My 6MT 2.5i ran 16.3@83mph, its 1/8 mile was 10.3@65mph and it took 6 seconds to go 65-83mph or 3 mph every second. My GT ran a 13.7 (Cobb AP OTS stage 1 tune). It's 1/8 mile was 8.2@82mph. Guessing a 0-60 of 5 secs (which is probably generous), that is 60-82 in 3.2 seconds or 6.8mph every second. My GT is accelerating more than 2 times as fast. A 1 sec head start is not going to take very long to catch up. 1 sec to match the speed, maybe another 1 sec to make up the difference. True, it was not fast at all, but you need to know that the K race chamber was something else man, also I forgot to mention ti had my trans tuned for shift points. In no way was i going to beat anything fast lol  It was the unknown, surprise and I still see people under estimate cars just cause they are slower then what they have, along with crappy driver's. I cannot count how many time people would let me get the hit cause they had faster cars, and they would be sweating and crushing gears to past me just cause they think its a slow car he will never stay infont lol. Which it was but it would get out pretty well for what it was. It was just a fun car, I know it was nothing crazy like what I have in store for the 06 Legacy. 3 days till I take her to the shop. Also I am not a numbers/track guy. I could car less, cause on the mexico streets, it does not mean anything just takes the fun out of it for me. I like to build something, beat down a few people and keep it moving.. Kinda like the guy in my town who has a clapped out 2010 STI and a 2002 wrx talking he would beat my 09 WRX in his 02. Funny his car burnt down in the parking lot, and was on the news. Found out he cut some corners. Edited April 16, 2020 by NORULZleggy
dgoodhue
Also I am not a numbers/track guy. I could car less, cause on the mexico streets, it does not mean anything just takes the fun out of it for me. A quarter mile timeslip can tell you a lot about how your car is going to do in Mexico. A car with a higher trap mph will usually wins in a highway roll race. A car with a good 60’ has good traction off the line. A car with a better elapse time than its typical mph for its ET is usually torquey and accelerates good at low speeds. A car with a high trap speed in comparison to its mph has either traction issue or lacks low end torque. Also going to the drag strip, gives the driver concrete feedback on how fast their car is. Most driver skill is not what they think it is. The track is what I call the land of disappointment for most rookies drivers. I have seen dozens of modified 4th Gen GT run slower times than my stock LGT with a tune. It is not that I am amazing driver, it is the other drivers skill or the tune of their car needs work. This goes for autocrosses too. Many rookies come to the autocross course in their STI thinking they know what they are doing only be out run by the experienced older guy in his Daily Legacy 2.5i with good tires and a dialed in suspension. Give it try, you probably will learn something. The cops will even sometimes pull you over in Mexico so you don't have to worry about that at the track. NORULZleggy
So with all the virus stuff going on we still got her 3 hours up too the shop. Got the DirtyMax all gasses up, we played with the boost on it hehe It was a little sketchy on the roll back trailer but we got it done. Now I wait. I will give more updates as they call me on things. Getting ready before. She was not happy getting on that trailer lol she mad sure to let us know lol :spin: Smoked us out bad. NORULZleggy
Got the car to the shop, got a call the next day and they pulled the motor. So the motor short block, pistons and few other things were trashed, they could not believe it ran and drove lol. The head were bad but not trashed, so I am getting another set of heads, and making them stronger. I bought the wrong clutch, so i have to send it back and get the right one lol We are running all custom fuel line now, cause I thought I had bought them from a person on here, that was wrong. lol Other than that I had all the parts I needed. We talked about power, and we are thinking a safe 315-320 AWHP on 93 if possible, I also want a 91 tune with a little less boost, and lower power. I am excited. NORULZleggy
The received my clutch at the shop. this is week 2 coming to an end. I assume things are going good. I think I should have gotten an inline fuel filter for the car. oh well.
NORULZleggy
Talked to the Shop today, and they did receive the clutch, and I also sold the TVG deletes I could not use so that knocked off 200 from the bill. They said the heads are getting worked on now and they are going to start to put it back together pretty soon. I kept asking him if there was any parts I needed and i could drop ship it in 2 days, he said no. So all looks well.
Mr-C
Nice build! Sounds like you'll have a similar set up to mine....minus the fuel upgrades, I'm stock but with TGV deletes and also UEL headers. As a reference, it puts out 282whp (365hp/356tq) on 91 and boost at 19lbs Are you sure the Stage 1 clutch will hold up? He told me get an oem one, I was like naw. Also I'm not the type to show off and being older then most subie guys with kids, I cant be acting crazy. It it does not I'll get another one. I'm going to do a 91 and 93 map, along with a 91 detuned map for when i drive to long shows. Going for wheels and coil overs once I get it back. shralp
No need to go beyond stage 1 clutch at these power levels, you’ll just lose drivability and unless your doing 4K clutch dumps from a stoplight down at the local Waffle House you’ll be fine. NORULZleggy
Heading up to pickup the car in a few hours. The car was on the dyno but needed to have a few fresh tanks in it to finish. So I have a nice tune but I am going back in a few weeks to get full 91 and 93 tune. Wheels and tires came yesterday along with my new favorite hood scoop. Think I will wait to put wheels on till I get the coil overs first, I am going to clean her up and get some engine bay shoots. I have to say it cost just about what I saved up. Stay tuned.
