NEW Nav firmware update 11-21-16 for 15 and 16 Legacy

Recommended Posts

So how long does it take to perform update #1 ? and #2 ?

The TSB recommends connecting a battery keeper while doing the update. If the updates take a while, can it be done with the car running?

It probably could, but do you want to leave your car idling for a half hour or more? I don't remember the exact time but I know I wouldn't want to sit and waste gas the whole time.

If you don't have a battery charger see if you can borrow one from a friend or consider picking up a cheap one off Amazon or maybe even check Craigslist.

For part two of the update.. Once the bar is green and no longer blue and moving.. Is it done or do I still have to wait for it to tell me it's done?

Wait til the OK button turns black then tap on it.

Cool. Ty. Seems the second update indeed didn't take right at the dealer bc everything is working as it should now. Versions show correct in all three places and no more mpg issue or crash on vehicle customization.

No problem.

Yup, sounds like you got it now:cool:

I believe I got it updated. The TSB procedure isn't very clear on verifying the correct version after each update. It says to verify CAN, but what is the updated number?

I had to re-apply update #2, twice. I didn't reapply update #1 before doing #2, the second time, as the TSB says. The first time I ran update #2, it was a lot faster than #1. The second time, it was much longer. So appears it took.

My final versions are: Nor=NU9017, eSD=NU9017, CAN=14.0015, and DB=NU9017. Does this match others ?

Vehicle customization works. Haven't tried MirrorLink.

It don't think it's the dealer messing up for the second update not applying right. I did mine myself and had to update file 2 twice because it didn't take the first time. I just noticed it went extremely quick and the firmware didn't update all the way. Shame on the dealers for not doing the same

The TSB instructions themselves tell you that NU9017 is the correct Version ID for a 2015 Legacy/Outback with NAV, but doesn't mention a Version ID for CAN. However, in the two vehicles I have updated (a 2015 legacy and a 2016 Outback, both without NAV) CAN has updated from 14.0012 to 14.0015.

Just scheduled an appointment to go in tomorrow at 2:15p for this.

Hopefully it resolves the annoying GPS location issue with my iPhone is plugged into the cars USB ports.

It does. It resolved it on mine. Why not do it yourself? They are going to screw it up anyway.

I believe it is a zip file. You just drag it to a USB stick. If you don't feel comfortable doing it then let the dealership take care of it. I am really happy it fixed the gps issue with the iphones.

Oh I would feel comfortable doing it; I work as a Technical Specialist at Apple so that isn't a concern I would just rather then do it haha.

THANK GOD that it fixes that issue! That has been bothering me forever and I prefer to use my phones GPS anyways.

I'm on NU9309 now.

Looks like the 2nd half of the update didn't complete; CAN is still at 14.0012 (vs. expected 14.0015). What Version ID is present for the DB (or BackupDB) module?

Just do the second file again. It never takes on the first try for some reason

Don't have a flash drive at that capacity. Don't even know which file it is that I need.

Then take it back and tell them to do the second update again. Told you they would mess it up. All you need is a 4GB flash drive. I used a 8GB and it worked as well.

Wish I could... The are closing and techs are going home shortly.

At Walmart now tying to buy the flash drive and they have nothing less than 16GB.... Unbelievable haha.
